There's a young man (An apprentice, perhaps? They never clarify) who lives with an old man. The old man has a strange eye, which the manic young man is obsessive about... it haunts him. Anyway, he sneaks into the old man's room, kills him, cuts him into little pieces and puts him under the floorboards. The police make an investigation the other morning and find nothing amiss. However, the young man thinks he hears a heart beating under the floorboards, freaks out, and confesses.

Yes... That's how I remember it. Dismembering and cutting the guy's eye out is far different. Remember, the eye was the source of the killer's anxiety... I wouldn't have kept it.

Here is a quote from the story: "The night waned, and I worked hastily, but in silence. First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs. I then took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and deposited all between the scantlings."

No stabbing, no eye removal. o.x
