  • 4:15 is simply amazing! And what about those jumps around 6:27-6:37!!!

  • Ribbons are awesome! great idea!

  • my friend is gonna dance this pas de deux in the end of the year.. she's so terrified about that ribbon promenade omg

  • dislike the dance but loooove the dancers!

  • I like this guy. Good to see a ballet dancer who's not all 'Linford Christie' if you get my drift ;-)

  • There's not that many blacks in ballet, so impressing.

  • @beccaotaku Normally I'd agree with you, but not in this case....he's cuban :)

  • @Roccarocks Well...he's not white.

  • @beccaotaku True...he's hispanic. I think what's so impressive about him is that he dances with the Royal instead of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba (most cuban dancers tend to stay with their native, cuban companies). I think he and Alicia Alonso might be the only prominent Cuban dancers to ever dance at the Royal. (Although, Alonso only guested there). I think the Cuban dancing style is AMAZING- he's such a treat to watch!

  • @Roccarocks I agree

  • The best in this variation :)

  • My Grandfather Anthony Twiner conducted this!

  • My Grandfather Anthony Twiner conducted this!

  • isso que é uma coda?

    incrivel!!!!!

    maravilho!!!!!!

  • Wonderful to watch, so artistic.

  • fredrick ashton choreographed this for the Royal Ballet...it is piece of pure genius

  • @carosoto16 I AGREE I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ivelissev, Although I now live in France, I find the language ever confusing. It does not always translate in the context that it is supposed to. I think that all the replies that I have received are excelent, and have helped me to understand this particular ballet. Many thanks.

  • Pardon my ignorance, I am new to this ballet, but what exactly does "La fille Mal Gardee" mean?, or how does it translate in English? Translations please? Fantastic posting by the way.

  • @pydo7 the wayward daughter

  • emmsteemmastewart, You are a **SUPERSTAR**. Thank you, my education is now complete.

  • 'The badly chaperoned girl' - ie, she's getting away with murder under her mum's nose....

  • Literally, 'the badly chaperoned girl'.

  • genevieve70, Thank you for the reply, it sounds good to me.

  • "The Wayward Daughter" according to the Royal Opera House website.

  • @JackScafferyRowe, Thank you for your reply. One more person gave me the same answer, therefore, I appreciate that this is the "Official" interpretation. However, If the words are taken in their individual context, what comes out is "The Badly Guarded Daughter". If you care to look at @genevieve70's reply below, "The Badly Chaperoned Daughter" sounds about right. I'm sure that in the scheme of things it doesn't matter either way, but again, thank you for taking the time to reply.

  • la fille mal gardee refers to the badly behaved girl and tells the story of a girl who falls in love with a man that her mother does not approve of

  • @carosoto16 My Mother in Law didn't like me either (Can't think why, I was such a knowledgable teenager, I knew everything by the time I was seventeen). That's possibly why I like this ballet so much.

  • que linda marianela¡¡¡

  • magnificent!

  • fantastic

  • whoever choroegraphed this was a genius

  • @Kata397533 Yes, indeed! Frederick Ashton was a GREAT choreographer - so stylish!

  • @Kata397533 Sir Frederick Ashton

  • @Kata397533 Fredrick Ashton dear :)

  • That ribbon promenade is pure genius, but must be a terrifying 12 seconds.

  • Is there a female variation

  • Yes there is after the male variation.

  • It is at the very beginning; in the second part she's doing her coda.

  • WOW I LOVE THEM THEY R AMAZING

  • taken from the original, you'd be correct though, john lanchberry did this one mush

  • OMG THIS IS AMAZING

  • bello

  • Carlos Acosta is the best Dancer of the world since many years.

    He is amazing

    Abel

  • I gasped at the promenade with the ribbons. Wow. Awesome.

  • Lindos!!!!

  • how on earth did she keep her balance during the ribbon turning thing ? a sweet dancer with gold standard technique

  • sweet! :)

    lindo! :)

  • Now I see why Darcey Bussell retired... This girls AMAZING. The new Royal Ballet!

  • i love how during his whole variation part he is all smiles and as soon as his last step is taking he can't take a single breath

    he's so tired!

    poor guy!

    but he is excellent!

  • What a lovely performance!

Does anyone know who the composer is?

  • Composed by Stravinsky

  • think its John Lanchbery

  • Lovely! I just don't like how it was stretched out.

  • Carlos is toatlly in control on him self and seems very powerful. Great technique! Amazing! Thanks for uploading.

  • increible!!son perfectos!!!

  • Que seguraça!! q casal perfeito!!!!

  • where is the female variation?

  • mto lindoo !

    nossa q isso !! demaiis !: D

  • Nunez was never a Guest Principal, she's been with the Royal Ballet since 16/17, she was firstly an "Artist" promoted after one season to "First Soloist" and at 20 to Principal. Maybe you are thinking about Roberta Marquez, who I think maybe guested with the Royal Ballet before joining as a Principal?

  • To me carlos acosta as colas is Magnificient

  • Carlos Acosta is so phitt!

  • Impossivel não gostar!Alias,não gostei...eu amei!♥

  • Her technique is so utterly amazing.

  • we are doing this exact performance for our ballet concert :)

    im in it

  • I love this video....!

I very very like this video...

    La Fille Mal Garde...

  • perfeitoo :D

  • Marianela es argentinaaa :D

Carlos es muy muy bueno, me encanta su pirotecnia

  • They are both Guest Principals at the Royal Ballet here in London. We love them!

  • I heard that Carlos Acosta is joined the Royal Ballet, not just as a guest, a while ago

  • GUEST PRINCIPAL is BETTER than being an ordinary principal as:

    1.

He has more freedom in his choice of engagements, e.g. He was able to perform with Cuba dance company at Sadlers Wells.

    2.

Rehearsal studio time are precious. Guest principals given their other commitments, get priority in rehearsals and do not have to wait around for others to finish.

  • Okay, so you're saying that he is a guest principal and not a permanent member(?)

  • i just checked the royal ballet website and you're right about acosta being a guest principal but nunez isn't a guest, she's a permanent principal of the royal ballet

  • Thank you for letting me know. Nunez was listed as a guest principal last time I bought a programme at Royal Opera House some time last year. I wonder if they need her to commit more time because of the retirement of Darcey Bussell.

In any case, Acosta's status in the Royal Ballet is great. He is very popular in London. That is me speaking as a fan!

Thank you again for keeping me up to date with Nunez's status.

  • no problem at all!

  • what is the website of royal ballet?

  • I thought Marienela Nunez was a part of RB...

  • Yes, please read my comments about the advantages of being a guest principal instead of an ordinary principal.

  • I need to know their names

    i love them

    someone tell me

    arrrrgghhh...please they are really good

  • Marienela Nunez; Carlos Acosta.

  • omg! that ppd is AMAZING! The promenade on pointe with the ribens was rly good! For that whole dance, the girl must have a lot of balance!

  • Promenade on pointe with the ribbons! What balance that requires!! Cool

  • they seem to have amended the ribbon dance nowadays dont miss his next performances

The charming Carlos Acosta is one of the best of the best

  • I LOVE La fille mal gardée!! such beautiful pas de deux, and he jumps soo high!

  • all I have to say is that promenade holding just the ribbons...wicked cool!!!

  • I hate to say this but veiwing this in wide screen makes them look a little fat. SORRY =(

  • I'm well aware of Acosta but the ballerina is new to me. WOW! her variation is powerful and beatiful. Is This available on DVD (American format)?

  • Fiona Tonkin did it better

  • I disagree... Tonkin does not have the talent and beautiful muscularity that Marianela Nuñez (that's the correct way of writing her name) has. This girl will go further than Fiona, I have no doubt about that...

  • I saw Fiona Tonkin doing this at least 10 times she was charming but not a great dancer by any means. I agree with you Nunez is more musical and better techically.Sabemos como se escribe Nunes pero la programacion de la computadora esta en ingles.

  • Thank you Mario. Bueno, es cierto que la computadora está en inglés, y que por eso no puedes usar la "ñ", pero igual podrían escribir el apellido con "Z" al final, al menos, jaja. Un fuerte abrazo.

  • absolutely amazing! thank you very much

  • Wonderful! Thanks for that experience.

  • It's a great vid thanks for uploading. Great to see a

    vid of Marianella.

  • Cool thanks for uploading.
