@beccaotaku True...he's hispanic. I think what's so impressive about him is that he dances with the Royal instead of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba (most cuban dancers tend to stay with their native, cuban companies). I think he and Alicia Alonso might be the only prominent Cuban dancers to ever dance at the Royal. (Although, Alonso only guested there). I think the Cuban dancing style is AMAZING- he's such a treat to watch!
Ivelissev, Although I now live in France, I find the language ever confusing. It does not always translate in the context that it is supposed to. I think that all the replies that I have received are excelent, and have helped me to understand this particular ballet. Many thanks.
Pardon my ignorance, I am new to this ballet, but what exactly does "La fille Mal Gardee" mean?, or how does it translate in English? Translations please? Fantastic posting by the way.
@JackScafferyRowe, Thank you for your reply. One more person gave me the same answer, therefore, I appreciate that this is the "Official" interpretation. However, If the words are taken in their individual context, what comes out is "The Badly Guarded Daughter". If you care to look at @genevieve70's reply below, "The Badly Chaperoned Daughter" sounds about right. I'm sure that in the scheme of things it doesn't matter either way, but again, thank you for taking the time to reply.
@carosoto16 My Mother in Law didn't like me either (Can't think why, I was such a knowledgable teenager, I knew everything by the time I was seventeen). That's possibly why I like this ballet so much.
Nunez was never a Guest Principal, she's been with the Royal Ballet since 16/17, she was firstly an "Artist" promoted after one season to "First Soloist" and at 20 to Principal. Maybe you are thinking about Roberta Marquez, who I think maybe guested with the Royal Ballet before joining as a Principal?
GUEST PRINCIPAL is BETTER than being an ordinary principal as:
1.
He has more freedom in his choice of engagements, e.g. He was able to perform with Cuba dance company at Sadlers Wells.
2.
Rehearsal studio time are precious. Guest principals given their other commitments, get priority in rehearsals and do not have to wait around for others to finish.
i just checked the royal ballet website and you're right about acosta being a guest principal but nunez isn't a guest, she's a permanent principal of the royal ballet
Thank you for letting me know. Nunez was listed as a guest principal last time I bought a programme at Royal Opera House some time last year. I wonder if they need her to commit more time because of the retirement of Darcey Bussell.
In any case, Acosta's status in the Royal Ballet is great. He is very popular in London. That is me speaking as a fan!
Thank you again for keeping me up to date with Nunez's status.
I disagree... Tonkin does not have the talent and beautiful muscularity that Marianela Nuñez (that's the correct way of writing her name) has. This girl will go further than Fiona, I have no doubt about that...
I saw Fiona Tonkin doing this at least 10 times she was charming but not a great dancer by any means. I agree with you Nunez is more musical and better techically.Sabemos como se escribe Nunes pero la programacion de la computadora esta en ingles.
Thank you Mario. Bueno, es cierto que la computadora está en inglés, y que por eso no puedes usar la "ñ", pero igual podrían escribir el apellido con "Z" al final, al menos, jaja. Un fuerte abrazo.
4:15 is simply amazing! And what about those jumps around 6:27-6:37!!!
