  • is he in a drum shrine?

  • I really really love Bonham but Goddamn! This man has the sweetest chops and fills simply the greatest drummer around at the moment those blast beat muppets should watch this and hope they had half his grooves

  • @rolaball74 I really think guys like Vinnie Colaiuta, Benny Greb, Chris Coleman, Tony Royster Jr. are more skilled. but he does have a very strong groove.

  • Beyond anything I could describe with words right now.

  • I got a cowbell for Christmas this past year. Great freaking present!!! Its on my Rock of Ages Video for those who are curious...

  • This is why I need a cowbell!

  • RRL RRL RL my eye!!!!!

  • I wouldnt believe that could be done by rrlrrlrl!!!!!! Holy moly!!!

  • DIRTY!

  • Can I please declare Staton the White Bernard Purdie? He has awesome groove and always looks like he is having a ball behind the kit

  • Killer groove

  • <3 the bass drum sound

  • What DVD is this from? Thanks

  • @anotheruser22 it's called "Taking it to the Street." You can also purchase the album of the music featuring the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and George Porter Jr. off of iTunes. Fantastic album!

  • @3toes Thanks!!

  • This dude's very good, but be sure to check out the guy who taught him, Johnny Vidacovich.

  • hermoso pattern¡¡

  • he makes it sound like we should just practice one or two days and we play just as well as he does. kind of unfair

  • loving that champagne colour kit! Saw a gretch catalina at the music store the other day with similar wrapping - gorgeous!

  • Got to love the sound of the toms. That great Gretsch sound.

  • how the hell does he he do a ri shot without hitting his thigh...that snare is low as hell

  • he is the only person who can make the cowbell sound good.

  • @BluesmaNeedham ...NOT TRUE ! There is a cow in the next field to me, Daisy, who really knows how to make it kick.

  • @violinbloke and bennygreb

  • @violinbloke Daisy makes good milk too.

  • @violinbloke only him... and Horacio Hernandez, Alex Acuña, Dafnis Prieto, Calixto Oviedo and Jimmy Branly.

  • @BluesmaNeedham Please watch Rodney Holmes playing if u say stuff like that.

  • @Medusanlord Bro!! I just checked him out! He is pretty sick! thanks for the recommendation!

  • @BluesmaNeedham dude. cowbell is the shit. theres tons of people who can make it sound good.

  • @BluesmaNeedham Peter Criss, Steve Gadd...

  • @BluesmaNeedham ...maybe not the only one , but certainly one of the few .... i think the cowbell is a pretty hideous instrument actually

  • @BluesmaNeedham check out Benny Greb

  • It's funny to see, that a lot of extreme metal drummers have extreme big kits and everything, but this guy plays a 100 times more groovy and with so much more feeling with a relatively simple drumkit. :D

  • You know this guy grew up with them sticks glued to his hands as a kid. Pulls of an amazing set of beats every time. Maximum respect to the one and on Mr Stanton Moore.

  • so when they record these drum tapes do they use a compressor? or is it just me?

  • more funky than a box of new orleans sex frogs... on acid

  • I think Stanton could take any random sticking pattern and groove that mutha' till dawn. rlrrlrllrlrllrlrrlrlrlrllllrrrlrlrrrllrrrrrlrlrrlllrrllrlr

  • What video is this from?

  • 0:45 = Bakers Dozen beat.

  • What's the drum on his left--to the left of his snare and hats?

  • @badluckwitcarpet its called a Pandeiro

  • @badluckwitcarpet

i think its some kind of low pitched roto tom

  • @badluckwitcarpet Looks like a jungle snare

  • for all the technique i see drummers sporting these days, this guy really makes music with his.

  • Awesome groove @ 1:05

  • I love how he just can't stop looking ridiculously happy!

  • id be happy with all that gear too..and skills...but you cant buy that..

  • beautiful kit, anyone know what it is?

  • 4x14 Dunnett Titanium snare or 4 1/2 x14 Cravioto solid birds eye maple snare

70s Gretsch stop sign badge in red glass glitter:

    9x13 tom

    16x16 floor tom

    16x18 floor tom

    14x22 bass drum in front

14x26 bass drum on far right remote

this is his set up now

  • @astrosfan52 dude i love this guy, hey dont kno if you were round in 86 n im a mets fan but that was the greatest baseball ive ever seen, even tho astros lost they were amazing

  • He's a monster live. Go see Galactic :)

  • I have to play a New Orleans Groove for my jazz band and its alot like this.

This shits tough, and every judge has there own groove and mine never seems to be the one.

  • I was at one of Stanton's clinics and he taught me a bunch of stuff this being one of them. He gave out his signature sticks and i love them i would recommend buying them if youre a drummer

  • As soon as he starts playing, he gets this huge grin on his face. Awesome.

  • I now have a new inspiration for groove

  • @jbrecording .... right ? And its not that hard to develop this sticking . I was improvising with it after only a little while . I cant wait to use this groove with another person .

  • You have to play in Oxenthrust to have licks like that.

  • When he starts the part with the toms, around 1:33, man, I could listen to that ALL DAY. The guy is such a freakin' groove machine.

  • seriously dude, this video made me buy his new album

  • Useful for bosa nova :0

  • sounds tasty

  • very nice..i really like that

  • So awesome

  • man i love that he smiles right as he starts playing.

  • YEAH !!!

  • Proven: smiling makes you a better drummer. See Thomas Pridgen.

  • @Gloriouscubeshine check out Carter Beuford as well, he;s always smiling when he plays, and hes a BEAST!

  • hey is this from traditional approach or modern approach?

  • modern

  • @NDiesel31 Stanton oozes groove from every pore. He is the heart and soul of New orleans...to the core. Makes me want a Gretsch kit too.

  • Wow great groove! Awesome style

  • I remember watching this one about 3 yars ago when it came out, being totoally confused by how he made that sticking sound that way. I love the way he doesnt metion the drags, and the buzzes on the left especially. totally crucial to the groove he is gettin. The never mention the really important things on these dvds.

  • Well, to be fair to Stanton, he did mention "changing the accents" and "changing where you put it on the kit." I think that he wants you to be able to learn different grooves for yourself, however, and not feel like you have to play exactly what he's playing.

  • well 42 is the ultimate answer to the ultimate question.....

  • this guys got some serious steez

  • My god now THAT is what I call groove!

  • What drum is that on stanton's left?

It looks like a picolo snare but it doesn't make any sound when he hits it! Is it a pad so that his left hand will make no sound?

  • not sure of the actual name, but it's known as a Brazilian tambourine

  • Its called a pandiero!

  • nah man, u'd have to be pretty shit to need to do that- an issue not common in drummers who are well known enough to make successful instructional videos XD

  • mark van allen blueground undergrass pedal steel bluegrass jambands suwannee springfest live oak florida

  • 0:42

  • You could EITHER be referring to his mental preparation......or you could mean that 42 was the answer to life, the universe and everything according to 'The Hitch Hiker's guide to the Universe'.....

  • Ah... Life, Universe & Everything is my favorite place that doesn't exist.

  • @violinbloke The Answer To Life, The Universe & Everything = 42 Gallons in a Barrel of Oil

  • 0:44

  • beautiful sounding kit!

  • its a gretsch, what do you expect?

  • Rofl I thought the drums in the back was NYC LOL

  • hahaha nice bro

  • SO FUNKY!!!!! DON'T BE SO MEAN!!!

  • WTF? Who was being mean?

  • Its a black thing.

  • @violinbloke Ronald Sarty

  • Does anyone know what he's playing to his left, on that stand?

  • Yes, I wondered what it was. Judging by the sound, I would guess it's a trigger pad.

  • Actually, I just figured out what it was. It's called a pandeiro. I think it's basically a tambourine but somehow has a little deeper tone? Hmm... Thanks, though.

  • Thanks....I was miles out!

  • Yeah that's basically it. It's a Brazilian drum. It's different from a tambourine because it can be tuned, and the jangles have a drier, less sustained sound. It's a fascinating drum.

  • This deserves many re-views! Such a great groove from a great drummer. 1:00 to 1:20 is amazing.

  • Woah.

  • pocket playing at its finest.

  • amazing that such a simple beat can sound so incredible

  • Yep! I just felt the compulsion to add this to my favies!!! ;-D

  • That's funny, Joxaren2.....I've already put you at the top of my faves list!

  • Smashing!!! This guy is really great!!! Thanks Violin!!! ;-)

  • A mon plaisir, Snusmumriken3 ! You can tell that he really enjoys what he does, I think.
