  • Queen Latifah was born to play Pearl Bailey. QL has the power in Hollywood to pull it off. The similarity between these two is more than the obviously physical.

  • OMG!!! Tony Bennett said Queen Latifah was the second coming of Pearl Bailey, and damn! She really is! Wow! This is ire! Lol

  • I just love her, that voice is one of a kind classic beauty too !!!!!!!!!!

  • What a voice! What a beautiful woman! And her quotes show she had a lot of sense. Her voice is so soothing which is much needed in this world.

  • Queen Latifah REALLY favors Pearl Bailey. I never noticed it!

  • Pearl Bailey was simply amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • I can't believe I've never heard of her! Wonderful!

  • Straight class and style.

  • This song is available on the CD "16 Most Requested Songs" by Pearl Bailey. It is available at amazon.com as mp3 downloads or you can buy the CD. iTunes has this album . Check the song samples there (they are longer than amazon's).

You WILL be impressed! This is one helluva great album.

  • Even her talking voice sounds musical.

  • I met her at a train station in the 80's - kept calling me, 'Honey". Very sweet lady.

  • Beautiful lady, meloncholly song. Wonderful.

  • She was so full of class and what a wonderful voice she possessed on top of being so damn pretty.

  • She's so hot, and right now the message hit's hard for me!

  • I hate it when people who have a clue lump up all black female vocal performers with Queen Latifah. Do you people know how far Queen Latifah's comic style is from Pearl Bailey? It's like comparing Ellen Degeneres style with Margaret Cho just because they are both lesbians.

  • You can see that Sas we had from way back then as black people so cool . black people are very special very pure and honest

  • @MyRealtalktv Yeah! Just like white folk.

  • @MrEclecticity ARE YOU BEING FUNNY.

  • @MyRealtalktv Do you need to ask? Yes, of course I'm being funny. You were serious? LOL!

  • Bob hope forgot to use the word DIVA in his string of alliteration of D words!

  • what did bob hope call her?

  • @busessuck1 He called her a 'Dusky damsel!'

  • whats the name of the song shes singing?

  • @Blackjesus3 The song is called "Tired." By Doris Fisher and Allan Roberts, 1945.

  • @dudess4rent thx a lot :)

  • I was so sad when I heard she had passed. A true star!

  • Wow, she's part native American. Did not know that. I'm part Cherokee and she actually favors some of the women in my family. :)

  • I'm tide! Spelled TIDE!

  • i wouldn't be surprised if Queen Latifah was family to her

  • Lauryn Hil could play Bailey very well.

  • Tired of the life you live... Come walk the RED carpet and celebrate the Glamorous Life with us on May 22. RSVP 973-783-2355

  • Oh, Pearl. Oh, Pearl.

  • awesome. she was a very bright woman.

  • wow im doing a project on ms pearl bailey

  • Queen Latifah does Queen Latifah only... She could not "pull off *doing*" Pearl Bailey. And besides... Latifah is a... well... a... a blonde... right?

  • @SouLoveReal a..a.. NO!!!!!!

  • How wonderful to see Pearl again after so many years! She is so awesome!

  • What a classy lady and what a voice!

  • Queen Latifah could pull this off.

  • I thought i was the only one that recognized that. Queen Latifah has the voice and attitude to make it happen.

  • Pearl Bailey has been one of my favorite performers. My mother always said if she ran for president, she'd vote for her. I guess America was not ready for her outspokenness when she had her own TV show in 1971. It just occurred to me last week that Queen Latifa has Ms. Bailey's kind of beauty.

  • That's a lie queen latifah will never have the beauty of pearl bailey she is too big!!! lol! ha ha ha ha!!

  • Comment removed

  • @deliveredin2009..Yeah! she can lose the weight to make her body shape like Pearl bailey yeah right'' if your looking for a mission impossible!! Queen Latifah is TOO DAMN BIG to play pearl bailey let's stop kidding ourselves. if i was to see big ass queen latifah trying to act the role and play pearl bailey i will not have no recolection of pearl bailey what so ever!! This should be a crime to get this BIG BREASTED BEAST of a woman like queen latifah to play pearl bailey the beauty isn't there!

  • Ioneking, why hate on Queen Latifah?

  • @deliveredin2009...No! i don't hate Queen Latifah i just don't think she is fit to play the Beautiful Ms. Pearl Bailey'' as people claim she is! Not taking anything from Queen Latifah and what she accomplished but she is just too big to me for Pearl Bailey and yes maybe the attitude is their but not the looks, Pearl Bailey is much more prettier than queen latifah, But my opinion is only one of many who cares what i think or how i feel if they use her to me it would be a shame but not to all!!

  • Native of Newport News, VA Gotta love hometown talent. We have a library name after her.

  • Great routine. I think I'll go and have a lie down now.

  • I just became a fan...LOL. Great voice!!!

  • wow she was so beautiful!!! I love her eyes, skin tone, and hair

  • Absolutely Gorgeous, Stunning....

i hope that make a movie of her life and if they do, i honestly believe Queen Latifah would do an awesome performance.

they even resemble each other...Pearl Bailey was Awesome.

  • @sagittariusrising74 yessss yesss! same thing i was thinking what a way she looks like queen latifa! my goodness!! i think also there need to be that kind of a sound back in the main stream entertainment . that would be awesome.she is so talented!

  • statuesque. gorgeous.

  • Saw Pearl perform this trademark number many times when she appeared in Chicago, always to sold-out houses. She was quite the quick thinker and improviser on stage and loved interacting with the audience and was bright enough to do it, which many entertainers weren't. Her comedic talents sometimes overshadowed the fact she was a superb singer with faultless technique. I saw her in "Hello, Dolly," and can tell you she gave 100 percent even near the end of a long run.

  • Pearl Baily was playing a housewife.!!!

It was her style to play tired..

If we got luckey, She would tap dance!!

    Boy could she DANce!!

    and afterwards sinf I'm tired.!!

  • there's a reason the called her Pearl :)

  • I love this type of entertainment: someone on stage, highlighting his or her musical talents. What a wonderful clip. Pearl was such a great lady. And she added just the right amount of comedy to an otherwise pessimistic song. God! How I love these great older entertainers! They make me so happy to watch.

  • Actually doing the song this way was pearl baileys idea, and she's not playing a made she's playing a housewife, originally they had her doing the song on stage with a glamorous background in a glamorous dress, and she saw that this would not work and told them to give her an ordinary house dress and shoes and this home setting, because the song obviously is about how she is tired of her married relationship with her husband.

  • @almonkitt GREAT CLEAR PICTURE GREAT SONG

  • @almonkitt whats the name of the song?

  • @Blackjesus3 Tired

  • @busessuck1 thxxx

  • @almonkitt Thank you. She was playing a housewife, who was tired of the humdrum married life.

  • If I were a great singer like that it would truly get my goat to have to play a maid. I read that when Billie Holiday was in a film her role was a singing maid too. Lets hope times keep changing for the better.

  • She is playing a housewife not a maid. Pearl Bailey would not show up if she was gonna play a maid. It was not her style.

  • Can't You see , She is playing a Housewife !!

    She always played tired...

Then she would TAP DANCE !!!

  • Yes you can tell she's playing a housewife. She makes a comment saying "this is why I got married ?" at the start of the clip. She's singing from the point of view of an overworked housewife not a maid.

  • Well Im glad I was wrong, and to learn that she was playing a housewife, not a maid . I hope people won't thumbs-down my comment anymore. I love her so much and it made me feel bad that my comment made a negative sound with some people. I've been listening to her records for years and her voice is uniquely beguiling.

  • This is my first time hearing about Ms. Pearl Bailey.

She's just as good as Ella Fitzgerald,Etta James, Dorothy Dandgride, Sarah Vaughn, etc. Im loving the oldies. =) They are foundation.

  • My Mom, who passed away in 2000 at the age of 83, used to sing this song when she was mad at my Father:::sigh::::both beautiful women!

  • she's so beautiful.

  • how much does she look and sound like queen latifa btw?

well a modern day version of her!

  • ok!!! I thought i was the only one!!

  • I always thought that too ! Queen Latifah would be perfect playing Pearl in a movie !

  • i was just thinking the same thing! i think queen latifah! was born to play a role based on pearl! did you know queen finished a jazz cd

  • in the end they close the curtain faster than she even say her last word. (sigh) :)

  • Pearl's immortal line: Oh honey, I got class I ain't even USED yet.

  • great singer and lovely actor. r.i.p.

  • OMG that's Bob Hope introducing her! She was one of the best. Nobody could do it like her. RIP Pearlie.

  • Actualy Bob and her were good friends.

  • I didn't know that!

  • Another movie to check out "That Certain Feeling" oh god i miss the show biz era.

  • Sure will!

  • Those cheekbones!

  • I love!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pearl Bailey

  • Thanks for uploading this video. This is one of my favorite Pearl Bailey songs, but I had never seen her perform it before. One of the things I love most about Pearl Bailey is the way she puts her own personality in things; some of my favorite parts are the lines she ad libbed

  • I think one the most fascinating things about Pearl was always watching the way she "sang" the song with her hands as much as with her voice. Marvelous stuff here!

  • Priceless stuff!!! Someone please post her appearance on PBS in the 80's giving tribute to Eubie Blake.

  • I love her expressive hands. Pearl was really beautiful. "Gonna live the life of Cindy Lou. Gonna do the things that I know she'd do."

    Work, Pearlie Mae!

  • miss bailey!
