I pray you to consider it a serious medieval hymn.You must approach it in a moral and storicistic way.
I was student and Chief of a great Florentine Order of Students in 1968 and in 1972.
Last time I sung it it was two years ago,in a Russian little town,with a group of Italia,Russian and Ucrainan middle age or old men.A sign of cultural common background (and we were dressed in Napoleonic uniforms!!)
