Question. Do you thin the joint compound and if so by how much? Im working on a old bathroom that had some cracks on wall and ceiling. Turned out that there was about 4 layers of wall paper. I have scraped this and now want to texture wall and ceiling.
This was very helpful! Much easier than spraying it on. I'm so happy you posted these! Trolls are stupid. Get a better computer monitor people and you can see that the roller applied just as much texture as spraying it. My dog chewed a hole in my apartment wall and I repaired the knockdown texture with this technique to perfection. Got my whole security deposit back! :)
Thanks Tim for the video. Very helpful and I feel MUCH LESS apprehensive about performing this task now.
HQ Video too! Way to go. If there are people out there trollin (leaving intentional rude comments or being a jerk behind the safety of the internet), just ignore them. A LOT of people appreciate the effort people like yourself put in.
The local Home Depot has been horrible as of late for helpful advice.
Thanks, Tim. I was looking for somebody who rolled it on - exactly what I wanted.
Man, what a bunch of rude people! The guy puts a helpful video up, and this is the response he gets. It would be different if he were a jerk about his knowledge, but he's not. He puts it up there to help folks like me, and we should be appreciative. If we disagree, we can always move on to the next video.
Its much better sprayed on and you didn't touch on diluting the compund a bit with water I prefer a 5-1 mix
If you plan on using a roller...DO NOT USE A REGULAR PAINT ROLLER find a very coarse roller almost fluffy or even a specialty roller that looks like brains.
what that was about retarded. Its not a knockdown texture if there is nothing to knockdown all you did was roll mud flat and then flatten it even more with a knife. A knockdown texture is when you spray the compound on and it leaves little "bumps" and then you come back over it with a knife or knockdown knife and flatten the "bumps"
Is there a way to have the color you want for the compound, instead of painting afterwards?
Thank you for taking the time to do the video!

like the last guy said, that is not really a knockdown texture, more like a "fudge it method!"

Thanks Tim! Great video! Easy to follow instructions and hints.
Since I'm not a pro, I was glad that you shared an alternate application technique using a roller. Can't wait to start my project.
Wish me luck!!!!! : )

Good video!! I noticed you had a beachpail full of water, or was that the mud and water mixed? If so what was the ratio of water/mud?
