This seems, on first glance, very similar to 'Stencel's aces' which Jennings used to impress Vernon on first meet.

I agree with springa14. It's better for building up the climax, when you show that the Aces have disappeared and appear with the Ace of Spades.

Could be, but this is how Bannon describes it. He likes that quick revelation. Is a mater of taste.
