  • John Lennon plays guitar in this cover.:D

  • i've been noticing on YouTube many pro & amateur groups/singers doing covers of Beatles' songs, especially tunes created mainly by John L. Those songs like this one by Bowie seem to bring out raw & unadulterated vocals. I'm a longtime beatle fan & i don't mind at all, these covers. Most are done in tribute and are sincere. Don't think they're trying to "compete" with John L & the Beatles. Rather, its pretty cool hearing how the artist essence blends w/fantastic songwriting &music.

  • Id travel across the universe to see Bowie live on stage one more time!

  • 00:02 this is gonna sucks, 01:27 not bad, 02:50 Actually its Good :D, 03:13 an erection has appear, 04:00 I came, but the original its better ...

  • I love this cover

  • In the description it says " greatest Beatles cover ever". Id have to say With a Little Help from My Friends By Joe Cocker takes that cake

  • @mystro810 The Messiah of covers. What original? And I LOVE the Beatles!

  • @desirae30349 what are you talking about?

  • All the people hating on this cover know that Lennon and Bowie were good friends and that Lennon is playing guitar and singing backing vocals on this cover?

  • Such an amazing cover.

  • I don't know what you guys are talking about, this cover is fucking awesome. I wouldn't call it better than the original, but I wouldn't call it worse. It's fantastic in it's own right and deserves more recognition.

  • Ugly !

  • this sucks

  • I like Bowie but not this cover. No one can do it better than Lennon. No one. I also wish Bowie had left his teeth alone and not gone for the Hollywood false teeth look . They have changed his characterful face, which was a good face.

  • sorry david but you cant sing this 1 lol

  • I think the lack of plays in 2 and half years proves your description incorrect

  • How comes (through my almost 40 years of luvin' Bowie) have I missed this along the way!!!!!!!!!! ;0)

  • damn is it just me or is Bowie's voice one of the hottest voices ever xD

  • @howltothemoon101 - Dunno about ur voice dear Jess, believe it´s beautiful, BuT Bowie´s voice iz sure AmAzInG or even as you put it HoT ^_- Happy Weekend ★╚ÍGH† & Ŀ☼√Ξ ♥♥♥.¸¸.•*`*•.☼ ♥2♥ the both ofya^^

  • @TheWhiteDuke1 why thank you! :) Back at you.

  • @howltothemoon101 No, it's not just you ;-) and his voice is THE most amazing voice ever !! Be careful it can do things to you, I think you already have realized that ;.)

  • @ezaube1030 hahaha XD "things" my dear friend indeed. ;)

  • Great stuff Dave!

  • Wow! Pretty awful. I like Fiona Apple's the best. I love David Bowie, just not a fan of this particular.

  • @SodiumMonoCrapolate Same here. I was suprised as how horrible it was... :s

  • @SodiumMonoCrapolate

ya same here. i figured that i would add it to my favs anyway cause i just luv him so much.

  • I like David Bowie, and I like this song, but, haters gonna hate, it's not my favourite version. But the more I listen to it, the more I like it.

I like this WAY better than Jim Sturgess's version, tho. (Apologies to any AtU film fans)

  • @DoloresHaze84 very true comment.....I posted "God Only Knows" yonks back and the comments i've had on that...You either Luv it or hate it! Covers don't always work but I luv it.........Another track they dis from David version of Nature Boy (George Benson) they always compare the artist but I say look deeper into the atists own style! (maybe waffling, i've had a drink or two...lol) Bowie is my God whatever ;0)

  • sorry but far and far I prefer beatles original version... not way... nothing is gonna change the song...

  • Covers generally stink, but all that Bowie touches is solid gold.

  • @mudfuck31 John Lennon sang on this cover. Riddle me that.

And if being worse than The Beatles is the only criterion for being a wanker, I guess everyone who has lived, or will live, is a wanker.

  • @NStenO brilliant

  • The song sounds so different and made for DB

  • you do what you want with covers , just like god ...or David Bowie :)

  • Esta versión esta de pkm!!!!

  • John Lennon did the backing vocals on this cover.

  • What is this from??

  • @MrGrevy This is from the album "Young Americans"

  • your choice of pics is excellent, really wothy or of a lad called Ziggy when he sang Starman...thump up !!!!

  • Wow. Exciting version. Super vibe.

  • Omg, I didn't even know this excisted! And Bowie is one of my favorite artists, woww. :)

  • This one definitely rocks! Amazing vocal. Amazing Lennon. Amazing drums. Sounds like they were having a good time!

  • Uhh.. the author was/is the emperor.

  • Lennon rated this very highly - said it was how he would have liked to have done it. This is the best cover of a lennon or Beatles song in my view. It has an edge to it that I think we need in addition to the visionary. It is not either - or, it is both....and.

  • Bowie covre is a totally different take on the song. Lennon wrote it song as a visionary mantra. Bowie never says the mantra and the rythym is disjointed. He sounds angry and defiant like he's trying to convince himself of something in a violent way. I respect Bowie's take as original and artistic but I don't like the departure from the original spirit of the song. It's very good in it's own way. But for repeated listening I like Lennon's contemplative mantra style.

  • He is the only one who does not sing "jai guru de va om"

best of all cover versions !

  • I like it very very much

  • I was afraid to listen after all the comments.

People are retarded - this is fantastic.

  • Uhm. I prefer Lennon version

  • Lov u but not this one. peace and love..

  • it's the first time ever I heard Bowie screwing up a song. why on earth couldn't he stay away from this beautiful, sincere piece of art with his theatricality and mannerism.

  • is this reallly david bowie?

  • @hullablah Yep, that is indeed Mr. Bowie

  • Lovely

    TY

  • David Bowie with John Lennon. Amazing, beautiful song.

  • my fav of Bowies

  • I always liked this version especially because I am both a Bowie and Lennon fan. And that is Lennon singing with Bowie at the end. I love the harmony and the playing off each other. Such strong vocals from both of them.

  • love PF but i think you are overviewing things here... when echoes was played in 68-69' didn't have the same lyrics, and they even had to change it cause they were tired of being the face of "space rock", so they change the words for something more deep, like the ocean... Anyway, you should see the interviews of them until know, they say that the beatles were a great influence for them, and Gilmour recently even dare to say, that the only other band he would've like to be in, were the beatles

  • Lennon plays acoustic guitar on this one, it sounds a bit like a lounge disco track (sorry fans my opinion only) I like John's Beatles anthology version.

  • He sounds constipated at the end?!

  • @budgethemusicsponge How dare you make such a remark! David Bowie is the EMPEROR of contemporary music (not the king, the emperor, higher than a king) and you don't make such gross remarks about an EMPEROR!

  • I haven't really heard too much David Bowie, but this is one of the better covers of this song you can find.

  • good cover :) but nothing can top lennon's version.

  • I Fiona Apples cover is the best.

  • @abcedy123456 yeah its great.

  • @nathankainste Lead guitar? Rhythm? What does he play?

  • Lennon was his hero which is why it was never released as a single. It plays nicely within the context of the Young Americans record. I think it's a nice tribute to the guy.

  • Bad. He ruined the song!

  • this is hilarious

  • @ Nonoooh

je suis completement d'acor. bowie fait tout chose meilleur.

  • I've listened to this since I was 12, and I love this song! So much emotion in David's voice...I just love it.

  • @naumnn Hey, Nancy from the Bowie boards! Yes, The Gentleman sings with a lot of feeling. All hail the Thin White EMPEROR (never a duke. Bowie is EMPEROR)

  • @nathankainste It may have gotten Beatles approval, but does not get mine.

  • Ridiculously dramatic. Not what this song's about.

  • @ColdMountainWater SPOT ON! The Bowie vibrato is not working for this song. I like his Pennylane cover much better! Great someone is listenening without Bowie prejudism.

  • @ColdMountainWater I agree 100%

  • His cover of Pennylane is better IMHO

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe best cover of this song, not the best Beatles cover of any Beatles song in general, IMHO

  • nice, but my fav cover of this song is the one by Laibach

  • @MrKetoujin I was trying to remember the name of that band/cover. I videotaped them playing that in Phoenix a long time ago. Wish I knew where that tape was, cause yes, their version was awesome live....didn't they do like twenty versions of the rolling stones?

  • It's not that bad, but... noone can reach the Beatles, ever!

  • @Woooow86 Rubbish, of course there are incredibly good covers reaching the Beatles or equalling them, but I don t want to waste time on someone who is too overoccupied with the Beatles. But I agree, you can t beat the beatles for being the biggest revolution in pop history forever, but that is something else!

  • Beautiful!

  • I feel you I didn't like this version at first, it grew on me big time, just the whole "plastic soul" era he did will grow on you big time if you let it. :D

  • Its funny, when I used to listen to the Beatles I just thought "ugh" when I first heard this cover. I thought he had ruined the song, but I actually prefer it to the original now, it grew on me!

  • I like Bowie, but this is awful!

  • @renfieldvonklauss

sorry, you looser, lennon wrote the song in 67, they first recorded it in 68, and since floyd recorded in the same studio i'm sure they heard it, and it was first released in 69 on the No One's Gonna Change Our World charity album, sorry, but lennon would never steale from floyd.

rather floyd was pretty much influenced by the beatles becasue they were there wehn the beatles recorded sgt pepper.

  • @renfieldvonklauss nope...

  • Bowie=WIN

  • Love this. What a beautiful rendition.

  • I don't like this cover.

His other songs are okay though...

  • Have you guys heard the one with Sean Lennon, Rufus Wainright and Moby? It rocks!! But still, it doesn't beat this one!

  • I would to do bowie like a rabbit in heat =D

  • @BlueMoonz55 i hear ya haha im 14 hes way up on my to do list haha

  • in my opinion of the the best Beatles covers ever

  • bowie est un incontournable cette version tiré des beatles est magnifique, la recette funk moderne c'est le top

  • This is not as good as, or better than the original . Not by ANY stretch of the imagination. But it is very good.

  • <3 bowie and Lennon <3

  • I like this and the original, but this one seems so much more dramatic and powerful.

  • Gorgeous - lots of covers of this song but they don't come near the Bowie / Lennon one.

  • @juliekstroup Have you heard the Fiona Apple one?

  • @juliekstroup Know it. This is pure enchantment.

  • @juliekstroup

i dunno, i kinda like fiona apple's version....

  • Backup vocals by Lennon himself!

  • and guitar :)

  • J'adore la version des Beatles, mais Bowie... Sa voix, ce son... C'est vrai : "Bowie makes all things better than anyone"

  • Bowie makes all things better than anyone.

  • you serious? beatles are better!

  • @lizbowie Know it!

  • I find this is so powerful - much better than the original. And isn't it nice that the author of "Changes" claims that nothing's gonna change his world 8^)

  • By definition, nothing can be better than the original... only "as godd as..."

  • i like that its very different but to me the original is the best.

  • class

  • different class takes me back a good bit, thanx for postin x

  • as much as i LOVE bowie i think i prefer the original or even fiona apple's cover

  • really a masterpiece!!!!*****!!!!!!

  • wonderful cover(i like it more than the Beatles one..) and beautiful space's images!!5 stars !!!!

  • @darkandlight331 good comment...
