This is something that helps keep the socialistic welfare state alive, i.e., taking from the earners to pay the takers via welfare (food stamps, HUD, public aid, medicare, free schooling, etc.). The over-population scare is based on the fact that resources are scarce. There is a finite amount of any resource, at least that we have access too. The debate on what could be provided for every person uncertain. People aren't in synchronization with the world and society is extremely wasteful. Until that changes, population could be a major problem.
@dayayohut What resources are scarce, specifically non-renewable? You'll find that you don't actually NEED the resources you come up with to survive. Synchronization is only a problem if people can't or refuse to adapt. I do agree that American society is very wasteful but it's wastefulness is probably the result of the recent increase in technology, fueled by those same non-renewable resources, as well as America's new Godless mentality.

Population control is absolutely necessary at this point to ensure the long-term survival of our species. A one child policy is the most humane way of bringing down our numbers in the long term, but if it isn't implemented worldwide and soon, much more drastic measures will be required and it will get ugly. DDT is an effective agent for reducing the population of Anopheles mosquito, it is not capable of eradicating their populations entirely, thus the disease still spreads. Mosquito nets and readily available medicines are actually far more effective at limiting the spread of the disease.

The amount of levels of DDT needed to kill the entire population of Anopheles mosquito would have absolutely devastating effects on both the environment as well as the organisms living in it. Spraying that much DDT in the environment would not only be irresponsible, but would have far greater repercussions in the long term than eliminating the mosquito as a vector for malaria. Malaria is a controllable disease, but DDT is simply one part of it, it is NOT the end-all solution to the malaria problem, nor will it ever be. This sort of irrational thinking is the problem. You're simply not educated in the matter enough to comment on it.
As a simple suggestion, go to university, take some introductory microbiology and pathology courses to learn how malaria is transmitted, and why simply spraying chemicals all over is not a sensible solution to the issue. Better health care and economic growth also plays a substantial role in the elimination of the disease. I support a controlled population reduction, as long as it's passiv, for example with flu shots.

To advocate that people who cause this problem, who are having baby after baby that they can't afford, hence become a burden on all of us, may be should stop having those babies, is the right thing to advocate for. This is something that helps keep the socialistic welfare state alive, i.e., taking from the earners to pay the takers via welfare (food stamps, HUD, public aid, medicare, free schooling, etc.). The over-population scare is based on the fact that resources are scarce. There is a finite amount of any resource, at least that we have access too. The debate on what could be provided for every person uncertain. People aren't in synchronization with the world and society is extremely wasteful. Until that changes, population could be a major problem.

Synchronization is only a problem if people can't or refuse to adapt. So, if life begins at conception, what is your ethical position on the fact that ~30% of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion, the majority of which occur immediately after conception, and prior to implantation?
A better point to say at which "life begins", or rather when we have a "human" in its unique form is after implantation, as that's when gene expression starts to take place.

DDT is still used for malaria vector control. It was banned for use on farms due to its teratogenic effects on mammalian, amphibian, avian and reptilian species.
Millions of people died in Africa prior to Malaria. Your statement is non sequitur.

It has nothing to do with militant environmentalism. Malaria is a complex problem that is difficult to combat because of the nature of disease vectors. DDT is an effective agent for reducing the population of Anopheles mosquito, it is not capable of eradicating their populations entirely, thus the disease still spreads. Mosquito nets and readily available medicines are actually far more effective at limiting the spread of the disease.

The amount of levels of DDT needed to kill the entire population of Anopheles mosquito would have absolutely devastating effects on both the environment as well as the organisms living in it. Spraying that much DDT in the environment would not only be irresponsible, but would have far greater repercussions in the long term than eliminating the mosquito as a vector for malaria. Malaria is a controllable disease, but DDT is simply one part of it, it is NOT the end-all solution to the malaria problem, nor will it ever be. This sort of irrational thinking is the problem. You're simply not educated in the matter enough to comment on it.

As a simple suggestion, go to university, take some introductory microbiology and pathology courses to learn how malaria is transmitted, and why simply spraying chemicals all over is not a sensible solution to the issue. Better health care and economic growth also plays a substantial role in the elimination of the disease. Of course, the same wingnuts opposed to "militant environmentalism" oppose the GM crops that allow for said growth.
