talking further with my dad his boss 429 was a crap can!! some how the oiling system in the motor was faulty, the crank would not recieve enough oil so the motor would spin bearings under 2000 miles ford fixed the motor 3 times and then the 4th time just put in a normal 429, broken hearted dad just traded it in on a new mercury 4 door, just wonering if anyone else had this problem, the boss 429 mustang is and will always be my favorite car
My dad is born in 1950 he bought his 1970 boss 429 for $4700 brand new in edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Think of this.... $4700 in 1970 is equal to $28000 in 2010 hmmmm I cant figure why the gt 500 shelby is $62000 in 2010.... this 2010 price of the biggest and best mustang means that the biggest and best mustang in 1970 should have cost $ 11 000 dollars, i need information from smart people! am i dead wrong to ask a question like this?
the 428 Boss was such a turd but the 429 Boss was a monster, I used to watch one run at Firebird raceway in Idaho in the late 70 's, the guy drove it hard, it was a real treat.
@MrFuroius1972 you are absolutely right, I guess I was overwhelmed with Boss sentiment when I wrote that, due to overwhelming recollections thinking of this absolutely beautiful & impressive monstrous 70 Boss 429 Mustang that used to make thunderous passes at the local raceway. I was stunned to see a Mustang run that strong & it made a huge impression!
@MrFuroius1972 The 428 super duper duty ultra abra cadabra shelby heart attack south of oregon north of mexico Gee whizz Tee 499 +1 cobra jet medium tunnel exhaust port riser snake turd tire fire biter ( wheezing POS what ever it was) should feel complimented that it was ever referred to as a "Boss" even by mistake & that a real engine was finally put in mustangs because 428 snaking snorkel port NEVER ran very well!
I heartily apologize to the 385 Boss series & its truly hi perf legacy for ever making such a mistake. I ask forgiveness in advance if I ever accidently refer to the 428 CJ or SCJ as a flat head because of the overwhelming similarity in underwhelming lack of performance.
unless u have $200,000 for how FUCKIN RARE this Mustang is go for it. (p.s. im trying to sound mean its just this mustang is not just worth alot its part of pony history)

@heydude76 Even a broken Boss 429 is worth more than a new Mercury. non Boss engine even,it`s still an original Boss 429 body.

The 428 Cobra Jet was faster than the street version of the Boss 429.
