  • a beautiful, powerful movie, and beatrice dalle was just so perfect for the part.

saw this for the first time with a movie 'group' . some of them walked out after the first 10min . old 'foggies' what a wonderful film they missed.

  • Also if you didnt see you should see The Moon in the Gutter, its very good movie

  • inesquecivel !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ok so guys lower your volume towards the end of the video....i freaked out when the blue screen appeared

  • This is the song that got me to learn guitar. A lovely piece of music.

  • I've loved this film since 80', and I still play the soundtrack all the time.

  • best film ever, best soundtrack and its just a fabulous film.. troybadoo - me too!

I have Betty's same disease, and the movie reflects a very close reality of the disease, i'm so scared about the end of my story, i dont want to go like her.

  • @vivianbearing No terminarás igual. :)

  • Ok i cried in the 80s, i still cry, wonderful

  • Great theme song, though.

  • The ending was weird. I didn't see it coming and I don't think he needed to be in drag either.

  • this is definitely one of my all time favorite movies so wild and carefree only to be silenced

  • Omg... this scene makes me always cry..."37 2 le matin" (Betty Blue) is one of the best movies i've ever seen... Anglades & Dalle performances are breathtaking!!!...thanks for sharing!xxx

  • Poor Betty...

  • This is how "doing the right thing" should hurt.

  • Everything about this is brilliant - book/movie/soundtrack/ACTRESS !!!!

  • This is breath-taking. Haven't heard this in years. Thanks. Lx

  • I hope he doesn't try to shag the cat.

  • @MrBrunothedog PRICK

  • Zoege should'nt killed Betty Blue

  • go on...:)

  • this soundtrack was one of the first soundtracks I ever bought. I recommend it highly. It stands the test of time. Beatrice dalle.....ahhhhhhhhhh.

  • in tears right now... why do I always cry when the white cat starts talking??? LOL! it's a genius scene really it is... <3 Love this movie... forever!

  • What a great movie. I still crack up when I see the last scene though. When he talks to the cat, the cat turns around like, "Who the f*ck are you talking to?"

  • leidenschaft

  • ESTAR SOLOS NOS Enfrenta A LOS MIEDOS PROPIOS QUE SOLO SE CURAN SI SOMOS CAPACES DE MIRARLOS A LA CARA..LA ALEGRIA DE LA SOLEDAD APARECE CUANDO BUSCAMOS DENTRO

  • favorited!

  • i hate fuckers that say the movie is nowhere as good as the book...

the cinematography/visuals/beuaty in this movie are/were incredible..

  • @bettydaw1970 : It comes from those trying to be overly arty instead of just appreciating a fine cinematic masterpiece.

  • How'd they get the cat to talk like that?

  • Wait. Zorg commited suicide? Wha? Did I miss something? Did I read that other comment right?

If so, I completely, and totally, missed it. I always remembered the ending as him living on and finishing his book, and probably getting it published in memory of her?

    I've never read the book. : (

  • No.. Zorg didn't commit suicide, you will be glad to know :-)

  • Hooray!!! ^o^ -Raises arms- ZORG LIIIVVVESSS!

    Just gave me a scare when I read that last comment somewhere there, I thought he killed himself or something. o.o All I saw was a pot boiling and a load of.. bottle stuff, on the table, and I was like... IT CAN'T BE TRRUUEEE. ;O;

  • makes me love my girl

  • Thanks for uploading this. It really made my day!

  • is it just me or anybody else understood this as Betty running away one night and then Zorg started writing the rest of the story (Betty starting with the schyzophrenia symptoms and the rest). So he writes this crazy over the top story while Betty is already gone (notice the scene when he met the cat). The obvious end of the story is him commiting suicide right afterwards the hospital scene, however he uses some time to think over the perfect ending. ok, just me blabing...

  • This film always tears me up at the end here. What Borg went through with his Betty....to watch her waste away like she did. The reincarnation

  • Makes one think of the tribulations of ones own life. If one sheds tears to this it's due to ones own self awarenes - an observer consciousness that points at ones difficulties & weeps for the narcissitic idealism that one needs 2let go of. In short - boo (fuckin) hoo - get the fuck over it.

  • I'm a Sci-Fi nerd, I'm into Star Wars and alike, for me to love this film is saying something. I remember watching it when I was younger, indeed the music does bring tears to my eyes, "the promise of the piano", I like that and then when the guitar cuts in... perfect!

  • agree with emotion..i get it too....

  • I love this film, I havent seen it in years, just watched this and the music brings tears to my eys its so beautiful. :)

  • I haven't seen this film in years but it still gets me every time just like the promise from the piano. Beautiful and simple.

  • hot crazy chicks.who live short lives are the greatest chicks of all

  • Jeepers creepers, I thought I was the only one who sat at the kitchen eating dinner out of a pot, cheap beer opened, a loaf of bread, in a wifebeater writing magazine articles with a pen in the dark with a talking cat staring at me the entire time. Serious!

  • This scene is the most beautiful scene, what i ever watched. its so indescribable, its so feelfull...no words for it, i always criing on it...

  • where do i watch the full movie at?

  • rent it.

  • great cult movie of 80`s - i lov this movie....nogoodbeatnik - congratulations-you as genius

  • great movie,great music,great actors,MASTERPIECE!

  • the soundtrack is by Gabriel Yared.

  • I've been haunted by this film since childhood. So beautiful, so sad... yet perfect. It captures the madness of being totally and literally madly in love which I've I see in myself sometimes; it's reasuring to know it's not just me. Does anyone know what this piano piece is? I've never been able to find it or even to findout what it's called.

  • This film stays with you for ever.... Saw it first many years ago, but the music also captivated me.. That piano is sooo hauntingly beautiful, and yes, the end of the film with just him and the cat... !! I am now on a mission to find out more about the music....

  • the soundtrack is from GABRIEL YARED and the song is C'EST LE VENT BETTY

    enjoy ;-)

  • Effin region 4 dvd players..... cant even watch the dvd i just brought of this....

  • i love so much this movie !!!!

  • Stupendo, complimenti

  • great movie sad end

  • Titilation aside, this film seeks to understand (i think)the reasons for break ups and an understanding to well illness basically. Ok so they not the richest couple but when betty starts scracthing her eyes out o.O; I found this film charming, eye opening and beautiful in a sense that it was and still is for me an inspiration.

  • is this the directors cut version?

  • does anybody know if this song is used in a boots advert about glasses? i think its the same one but i'm not sure.

  • Thanks a million! For me this is the best film ever! In every single detail, aspect, no doubt! Too much beautiful! And the music... with those "erratics" touchs from Betty... Oh my God!

  • He is struggeling with himself.. whether to go on or not.. and finding out he should.. without Betty.. it's very beautiful

  • thanks...

  • That movie literally takes your breath away. No cliche, you will always remember where you were when you first saw it. Merci beaucoup.

  • thats true love !

wild and cracy full of emotions

  • Thank you so much. I love this movie.

  • I always thought the cat talking was his mind speaking to himself in the cat's "voice"; in other words, showing his descent into madness.

  • I waa under the impression it was Betty talking to him? me being a romantic and all that (grin)

  • You may very well be right! :)

  • Did the cat talk, or is he just thinking about her?

  • thanks Alfolioli :-)

  • Saw this film at cineclub price in a place called L'Herouville, maybe part of Caen. Can't even remember the place well but the film remains in my mind.

  • anyone know the title of the song playing?

  • C'est le vent, Betty

  • The most beautiful 'film du look'

  • Un Super Film Me encanta.....

  • Um dos meus filmes favoritos. Maravilhoso

  • what a film...

  • love it!!!

  • i have seen this move for the 1st time back in 1986, and fell in love with it!! it is one of my 3 fav movies, Il Postino, Cinema Paradiso and Betty Blue!!

  • ahh im with u on 2: this, cinema paradiso..think my 3rd is casino

  • me too. Betty Blue and Cinema Paradiso my all time favourites. English Patient is my 3rd one.

  • great movie :))))

  • oh I reckon the sex scenes were better in the movie than in the novel:p

  • I wish I could see the part where he bought a house for her and they were just sitting outside in the sunset.

  • That's my favourite scene in the whole movie, I cried like a baby at that bit

  • betty betty what a best foreigner movie great actors and the music awesome the escenery beautifull i saw the movie 5 years ago i always watch it in my spare time congratulations to the director from peru to france

  • No special effects.

    Just a great movie.

This and "The Big Blue" are two

    great movies from the 80's

  • I just would say the same!

  • The Big Blue had some special effects.

  • For all fans of those quiet, foreign films I highly recommend "Der Krieger und die Kaiserin" ("The Warrior and the Princess") from German director Tom Tykwer. Maybe you start to like German cinema, too? =)

  • ...still one of the best films ever done, sorry Bergman

  • I play piano and can play this ... very rarely I will play it .. only for cher!!!!

  • Still my favourite foreign language film.

I first saw it with English subtitles because that was the only version available. Fortunately a French friend bought me a copy in French without the subtitles - merveilleux!

It hasn't dated at all and still moves me to tears nearly 20 years on.

  • that is one of the most beautiful movies that i ever seen

  • I like the scene that play the piano in two some at friend's home.

  • paid eighty dollars for it back in 86 when i was 19

  • Is it a french movie??

  • oui

  • best film ever !!!!!!!

  • My God, wow - the most beautifully done movie. This is the best movie ever made. I'm so glad its not as mainstream as most other films.

  • I saw this movie when it was first released at the Grosvenor in Glasgow, with my student Girlfriend.

20 years on and im still haunted by it. It has never left me, I still love it.

  • The truly sad part about Beatrice Dalle was that she actually did end up going crazy after making this movie - as have a few other people after incredible acting performances in their respective movies ...

What the inner mind takes in -interprets and develops ... is anyone's guess ...

"There - but for the Grace of God ... go I ..."

  • the film has aged very little in twenty-two years. beautiful , but sometimes extremely, unbearably sad

  • Yes Jean-Hugues anglade is sooooo cute !!!

  • Favorite film of all time. I still love Beatrice Dalle what a woman.

  • Why don't we in the English speaking world make films like this. Why do we accept Denzil Washington rolling over the bonnet of a car as entertainment? No wonder the French think everyone outside of France is retarded.

  • man looks good... i wanna see this.... should ask my mum

  • mi pelicula favorita de todos los tiempos

  • we need more films like this one..

  • I want to find out "my" Zorg everyday i think it's the kind of gye who was suiting me !!!

    sorry if i made mistakes

  • Like very boby, it is also my all time favourite film. The ending clip is great. Thank you for posting. I also like very much the scene where Zorg and Betty were playing together in the piano shop. If someone has the score of this piano music in PDF would great.

I have a DVD copy of the original French release version. Personlly, I prefer the international release version, which I believe is the one most of you are talking about.

  • Well i was going to go to bed, but i saw this clip, now i have to stay up and watch the most absorbing film of my life. i was introduced to this beautiful movie ten years ago, i have shown it to countless people, but i am totally obsessed, i wish i was in France, the music is beautiful, and i can play most of it too, for piano solo. What vision they had back then. and to think my favourite band originally called themselves betty blue. It all makes sense, oui, jolie comme un couer x

  • Fantastic film, absolutely sublime music!!!!

  • aparently the piano bit was based on b dalle playing some tune (badly) to the films composser ,really fits nicely

  • I've seen this film over the weekend with my friend and I must say it TOTALLY absorbed me. I loved it and it's definitelly one of my most favourite ones. The tune is awesome. Love it!

  • This movie was one of my ten favs from the 80's and

one of my top 20 all favs. If it was not for the girl I

was in love with at this time I would have missed out

    in this great movie experience.

  • izlediğim en güzel aşk filmi teşekkürler

  • the poster of this film is still used in pretentious students dorms and flats, probably havent even watched this film either,if you havent then check it out.

  • XD

    Fucking great

  • mugb

  • is it possible that the novel is BETTER than the film ?

  • no its not....well i have read translation and its not as good, though lots of other bits not in film

  • i saw this film at the movies when it was first released and went out and bought the record (remember those?). posters of beatrice dalle were common in student flats back then. it is still my favourite film and the music is beautiful. good things don't date.

  • agree

  • I love that beautiful white cat too:)and also the whole film...

  • this was the first film that just blew me away,I was ten and, well nothings come close since, stunning.the books great, but for me the mixture of yareds soundtrack and the chemistry of the two leads beats it handsdown.the ending with the cat is genius. If anyone else cant get the song outta their heads check 'avril 14th' by aphex twin,u wont be dissapointed.

  • that cat really feels at home but first looks at him saying : who the hell are you ? and when he's answering after betty's question and the cat looks around , thinking : who the hell are you talking to ? : )

a bit like pope john paul 2nd when he came to the balcony at midnight of the millinium : first going wtf ? followed by Ohhh this is cool !!...

just one of those moments ./.

  • the cat glances over to us sayin (in my opinion) 'I told you he'd make it',it wraps the final seconds ina protective cloak of sorts,,,sorry, tho,I must admit I was gnawing my face off on bad E's come millenium night so forgot bout the pope till he popt it (r.i.p)

  • at the time too i thought it was just such a perfect ending with that cat and the whole homely setting and yes you're right about th cat too. cat only knows what he was thinking but i've had a few versions : )

    perfect non the less.

and if you ever find that moment with the pope , you'll see what i mean ! it was a classic !..grumpu old 'i can't be fcked anymore' attitude...followed by ohhh this is really cool ! (you could see his spirits lifting like you on E...: )

  • oh right,, got ya on the pope thing now, I'll see if its on youtube n post back if I find it, peace and frogs

  • Just the best film, haunting, moving

I am sorry, my english is better but I wish you the best!

  • tant pis

  • A beautiful film of freedom, dreams, hope, peace, love then tragedy as reality of life sets in.

  • Simply stunning film, I watched it for the first time a few days ago and it has haunted me since. Beautiful.

  • My favorite movie. Thank you!

  • heavy and light

  • very goooddooodddddd

  • Thanks for posting it.

  • One of the greatest movies EVER made!. I cant put into words how much i love this movie :)

  • perfecta

  • this film gives me shivers down my spine when i make connections between betty and someone i know

  • i agree. birthday cakes and all.

  • If you like film and you like art then Betty Blue is a truely great Arty film. I love this movie so much

that my desktop has the image from the cover of the movie. I have even brought copies to give to friends.

    Love and madness.

    Paul

  • This film has followed me throughout my life - I bought it for someone special a long time ago and watche dit out of boredom and it has stuck with me ever since.

  • Similar story for me except that I saw it at the movies in the 80s and has been my favourite film since then! I didn't know there is a book. I must get it.

  • Great film and yes the track is on the sound track, it's a must have album...

  • An amazing last scene to an amazing film. I can watch this scene again and again purely for the beautiful tune and feeling Zorg's pain.

    Thankyou for this clip.

PS. Is this piano tune on the soundtrack or not?

  • yes it is I have it hard to find now good luck

  • Still one of the most powerful films ive seen. great soundtrack too, thanks for posting it.
