But i figured it out. Its all about timing. You have to get a steady pace. just press the a button at a soothing slow pace and not fast. Try to keep rythm when you press a and youll swim right into it

Alright, I finally figured this out.

The trick to swimming isn't to mash the A button as much as you can, it's about timing, just like breast-stroking in real life. You gotta press the A button after Mario has fully moved his arms and legs back. Hearing the bubbly sound confirms the timing. Every one of your strokes should give off the bubbly sound, and your aim is to make the sound come at the shortest intervals possible for optimum swimming.

theres 2 more ways to get it... u can use the metal cap...or just go very low then go from da sides

I figure since you can see your shadow while swimming, then once it lines up with the star, just swim straight down with long swimming strokes by tapping A, not holding it.

Of course...I'm still trying to get it myself...that's just my plan...

its not impossible...dont just jam the A Button...Press it rhythmically instead. It isn't to hard.

takes a little time but once u get the swimming down then its all just about the angle

this is the most annoying task ever... i find it impossible to swim next to the star let alone grab it.. how in gods name do you swim so fast through the water.
