  • Smokey Robinson is still smooth as silk

  • whats going on with smokey hair ????

  • Love Smokey, but I agree Jennifer could have torn into this song by herself & made it more soulful.

  • think she could've done it better alone

  • Love my strong black sister Jennifer Hudson, she has truly over come !!!!

  • finish this song...the guests are ready for their salads and desserts now...and you need to change back into your black and whites.

  • i like smokey but he doesnt match this kind of style of singing

  • Smokey <3

  • I have never heard anyone admit this, but I'm going to say it, Jennifer Hudson is as good a singer as Whitney Houston!

  • @jenniferlwl Not even close dear the reason u never herd admit is because its not true lool!! whitney had amazing tone power, incredible control, range and technique and ever part of her range had an amazing tone !! low chest (belt) and head voice) Jens Great dont get me wrong, amazing power, great tone, but she has learnt to fully get a hold of that voice yet, but im sure she will!

  • @trueslmanz Whitney through that all away for some crack... and Jennifer will get there and keep it she has a stronger will than Whitney! Whitney can't even get on the same stage as Jennifer now. SHES OVER!

  • I love it!!! Both incredible singers!!!

Btw it says hopeless sinner who would hurt all of man kind just to save his own

  • Man Smokey's still got it

  • Such a wonderful duet. Full of class, pathos and feeling, from two artists who really know how to mold a song into beauty.

  • Thats me when i'm older I'ma look like a tall him lol

  • DANG NEVER HEARD THE WORDS TO THE SONG REALLY.....A HOPLESS HEALER WHO WILL HURT MANKIND JUST TO SAVE HIS OWM- ARE THEY TALKING BOUT CHRIST hmmmmm

  • See it pays to have class. When did Jennifer Hudson start singing. Yet they invited her to the white house, not Beyonce or some other more popular stars, wonderful as those other artists are.

  • Wanna marry Jennifer Hudson right now!!

  • I l.o.v.e jennifer hudson!!! go on girl!! and your family are in my prayers

  • Jennifer Hudson you and your music inspires me so much and I love what you have done for yourself, keep up the good work. Smokey Robinson I always loved your music and you still look so so good to be as young as you are. I really love the duet you both did.

  • I LOVE U JENNIFER!!! YOUR SUCH AN INSIRATIONAL SINGER AND PERSON!!, after all you been through you still keep on moving, and that's where i'm inspired by you, because i've had my share of hard times!! love yah!! and stay blessed

  • this is nice it's good to hear jennifer sing instead of scream a song out

  • When that "comic" Nathan Lane told the sick joke about presidents being wary of theatre since Lincoln, I watched no further and so didn't see any of this. The joke was in bad taste and I would have threw a rotten tomato at him if I was there.

  • People get ready rhank ya lord

  • Did you see she said "Thanks Smokey" at the very end of the song???!!!! This is the very reason why I will always love this girl. good Chicago-grown girl, who respects the pioneers that came before her. Go Smokey, Go JHud!!! I love seein these kinds of performances!!!

  • Great performance. Brought tears to my eyes!!

  • 2 GREAT VOICES, A BEAUTIFUL COMPLEMENT OF EACH OTHER,,,,,

  • Wow! I think Jennifer's grew a lot vocally!

  • Smokey a good lookin ol man. I'd let him hit it.

  • ilove you jennifer

  • Smokey can barely keep up with Jennifer Hudson singing. I mean age is really getting on him right now. He lost most of his charm

  • @SensitiveSoulFir You must've forgot that he turns 70 this year? He's a true legened anyway!!

  • @SensitiveSoulFir, I recently attended a Smokey Robinson concert, and I must say that he's still got it. I don't know if you've ever seen a performance between older performers and newcomers - but the more senior performers usually let the new comers take the lead in duets (such as when Stevie Nicks performed with Taylor Swift). I witnessed Mr. Robinson perform "Ooo ooo baby" and he sang it with that flawless falsetto better than he did in his younger days. And I am saying this as an 18year old.

  • YES, YES, YES!

  • @YaBoyGotGuds. No, they should have let smokey sing the whole song! I mean, it is civil rights - era celebration. J Hudson wasn't a singer during that time period! Smokey is closest to the original version than she is!

  • @toughguru OK.....so your theory is shut out the younger generation, right? Cuz she wasnt born in that era, she cant sing a classic song from the movement? No wonder there is such a disconnect when it comes to black people. a lot of young black kids dont know shyt bout the civil rights movement past Dr. King talking bout "some damn dream he had last night"!!! true quote from one of the kids I work with. This one simple performance is an excellent example of bridging that gap.

  • @AllTruth1. This is not a Bob Marley song! This song is from a group called The Impressions!! Look it up.

  • they really could have let Jennifer sing the whole song...real talk!

  • Smokey's eyes look like Data's eyes. It's kind of creepy. Maybe Smokey is a singing android, achieving perfection 100% of the time with unhuman precision.

  • OMG, they're singing a song Bob Marley sang. Thanks "funkateerkitty" for sending me to this site. One Love!

  • Jennifer Hudson has such an amazing voice. She can sing with the likes of them all, and only a very few can do it. Jhud is the best female vocalist in the industry today hands down. This young lady is a beast on the mic!!!

  • Jennifer is good, but Tarralyn Ramsey is so much better

  • Smokey Robinson STILL has it ! The brother is so polished, professional ,and relaxed which you can only get from years doing what you do. Bravo!!

    Jennifer is good too.

  • ill never get tired of smokey robinsons voice.

  • Smokey has been on the music scene since the 60's, and his voice is still beautiful. We know Jen is a powerful singer, but this is a duet and she sang accordingly. Both were great.

  • Waouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh ! Jennifer hudson YOu're the best !

  • Smokey Robinson is a great artist who has written songs and made records that will live as long as people have ears, but he contributes nothing to this performance. Ms. Hudson seems to be reining herself in to keep from leaving him too far behind.

They should have invited the Persuasions to reunite for this song. Nobody but Curtis Mayfield himself ever brought more to "People Get Ready" than they did.

  • My J-HUD

  • sang girl sang. lol she has really matured into a lovely young songstress. She's been to the white house or has sang for the Obamas many many times. It's not simply because she's from Chicago. They recognize talent. God bless her and her family

  • My girl jhud tamed her lyrics down because that chick would have been blowing the audience away. She has really grown into a lovely songstress despite all that she has endured. God bless her and her child and family

  • jhud!!! she is in a class all by herself!

  • No credit given to Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions?

  • There will be on the program: Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and John Mellencamp. Watch tonight on your local PBS station.

  • Why no white performers?

  • There are 2 out of 4 white performers.

  • Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and Joan Baez perform on the television show...check your public tv station's web site for their broadcast schedule. Should be on most tonight at 8pm ET.

  • Comment removed

  • Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and John Mellencamp also perform and will be in the television program. Watch tonight on your pub tv station!

  • @RangRing68: Bob Dylan is white. Joan Baez's father was Hispanic while her mother was white.

It seems appropriate to include people of all races in a celebration of music from the civil rights movement - and PBS did so.

  • @RangRing68

Joan Baez and John Mellencamp are also singing. Last time I looked they were white

  • @RangRing68 - the theme is 'music from the civil rights era' . What the white people sing?

  • @williamsivy "What the white people sing?"

we shall go to tea parties
