@RWL2011 Thanks for that! Did you use the cars original registration to check? I've always wondered if the car is 'unlicensed', and if so whether or not it could be because it's on another personalised registration or simply just off the road..
Np! Yup, unlicensed and no export marker, so definitely in the UK and off the road because only one record exists per vehicle and that's for its current reg. I know this after looking up 2 cars with personalised reg's.
That BMW branded as mini is not a path on the true breed which is a Mini..... Unreal what BMW have done. Taken a company shafted it of its saving grace and ran away holding us brits by the short and curlys laughing........ Love the true Mini :D shame about the blue thing in the vid... lol Very cool cooper s 500
Cheers for the comment :-) My little motor had a Playmini 3" Stainless exhaust system. I've got no experience of the Fletcher exhaust so can't really say how they compare - I can't fault the Playmini though, and hence would definately recommend it.
I agree, some of the latest 'small' cars are as big as some 'medium' sized cars from 10 years ago! I suppose there are all the increased crash and pedestrian safety rules to stick to, but even so.. there's nothing like a lightweight compact pocket rocket!
Just got a 70 cooper S after a 35 year wait..and it was worth the wait!! Think i'll smoke a dube and go for a nice sprint..Mini people are cool and now I is one too. JC
really awesome car man classic looks so much better than new style and that one was in perfect condition looks wise atleast i dont know about performance but i would bet its fine in that catigory also great car.
Nice mini, I once had a brand new mini city, I chucked the engine, and Richard Longman in Dorset; fitted a 1430 engine,
lightened flywheel, twin dellorto carbs, went like stink, I kept it 2 years and then sold it, big regrets. I ve just finished another mini 1380 managed to fit 10" Wheels, goes like stink. will be on you tube shortly. a question:- why do all tuned minis sound as though they are running rough " bonnet end" all a great exhaust note though
Cheers for the comment. It sounds like your City was a bit of a beast! I'm not sure why they tend to sound rough at the front, I didn't have mine long enough to really get to know the mechanicals that well. I too regret selling mine. Would be good to see a video of your latest one!
Thanks :-) You're right in assuming they're 13x7 wheels. I'm not sure whether there were spaced drums on the car, I never even took the wheels off when I had it!! :-(
Sorry I can't be of any more help, the wheels did fill the arches very nicely... that's all I can remember!
I have a friend who brought me an exact one 1970 Minin cooper sport for sale with 68600 minles, he wants 13k. I am not sure if it worth that much! does any one know the value? it's in prestine condition
v nice car, i hope to buy one soon and do it up very simular to yours, although i notice yours hasnt got bonnet stripes!? Are they fun to drive and was it fairly cheap to run?
Cheers for the comment :-) Yeah, the lack of bonnet stripes is a bit different to other CS 500's. I believe the previous owner removed them, as it certainly wasn't me! As for the fun factor, it's literally like driving a go-kart on the road, they're awesome. Mine was cheap to run, the small engines don't drink tooooo much and it wasn't that expensive to insure either. As a younger driver I think they are fantastic. The parts are pretty cheap too, meaning customisation is quick and easy :-D
Gd, thats what i wanted to hear lol, i am looking our for one, am just looking for the right one that i can customize easily etc. Thanx for the reply ;) cant w8 to actually drive one :O
I ended up selling it back to the dealer I originally bought it from. I think I got around £6k for it at the time, which wasn't much at all :-( (And a lot less than I had paid for it the year before!)
@Serby2006 hello.i was the owner of your cooper 500. VO51 GYR ? .i did all the modifications ie the 90bhp kit,the 13x7 alloys.the de stripe! which you must agree, looked stunning but was brave to do it.the exhaust was a superflow.i fitted the centre console, the silver cd player and the brilliant devil sticker. i believe your parents got you the mini for your birthday? i sold it to miniman. im gary from wigan lancashire.
@3garycooper Hey Gary, that's correct in every way, fantastic to hear from you. I got the car for my 17th birthday, it was the collection of modifications which you made that resulted in me choosing it - it looked a stunning car. After purchasing it we fitted a few more stainless steel bits (grill, wipers etc..) as well as a sump guard and K&N Induction kit. Whilst owning the car I took it to quite a few shows, but I've never seen it since! I sold it back to Miniman. Thanks for your comment!!!
Cheers. They are 13 x 7 Minilites. I think the Minilites look fantastic on a Mini and the deep dish design of the 7 inch wide wheels fill the sportspack arches very nicely. Thanks again for your comment :-)
I can't remember exactly, but I struggled to sell it at the time and ended up selling it back to the dealer that I bought it from. I think for about £5000-£6000, which at the time was a fair bit less than what it was worth.
ddidnt rover design the new model bt bmw brought it just before it was due to go into production? cuz it used a few rover parts on the early 2001 new shape 1s
Yeah that's pretty much true. Even I'm not 100% on the exact history of how it all happened.. but Rover were in the process of development as they had produced the ACV30 concept car in 1997. BMW and Rover had worked together for a while at this point (since about 1995), but eventually they decided to unload themselves of Rover. They sneakily kept Mini/MINI for themselves though!
As for the parts, I know for certain that the early MINI One and Cooper (pre sep. 04) models used a Rover gearbox.
Yeah! While I had it I never saw another without them... I believe they were removed by the cars first owner, who also fitted the wider wheels and tuned the engine. I suppose in a way it's a shame to do such things to a special edition car, but each to their own!
The classic Mini is the one and only TRUE Mini. There is another car which has it is called Mini but it never can be compared to the legendary British Mini!
From memory (As I sold this car over 4 years ago now) :-( The only problem I had with mine was that it over heated quite a bit. I believe it was just because mine wasn't quite set up right.
The fab thing is that because they're such simple cars, if anything does go wrong it should be a relatively easy and inexpensive fix :-D
Yeah,The best engineered things are often the simplest!!..Well thanks Mark, lookin forward to gettin it anyway!!Ill post a video!!Send ya the link!!Thanks..
definatly a good car to learn in, sooo easy to drive, forgiving and lots of fun. loads different from a modern car though, so make sure you haven't spent too much time in one of them! more like driving a go kart, pretty addictive...
I'm pretty certain its a Playmini... but having looked on the internet it could have been a Minisport Superflow exhaust as the car had a 90bhp Multipoint tuning kit from them... I can't remember exactly tbh but I always thought it was a Playmini.
Very nice classic Mini.

Thanks mate :-) In terms of performance it was pretty quick on the right roads as it had what I believe was a Mini Sport MPi 90bhp tuning kit.
It also had 'Smootha Ride' suspension or something similar... I can't say what a difference it made though as it was all on the car when I bought it.
What I can say for definite though, is that it was great fun!
