  • amazing!

  • wow your realy good!

  • you are such a good potato farmer

  • how long do you have to leave them in the ground? I just planted them 2 weeks ago (mid june) the climate here is wam untill about september

  • @s121202 about 3 months.

  • why would someone vote down on this?

  • Subscribed! ;-)

  • Potatoes are by far the best thing to plant. 800sf can support one person for one year and any idiot can grow them without even trying.

  • Do you cut off the flowers to make the plant think the growing season is longer and therfore the potatoes will grow larger?

  • I see people planting vegetables which are either too unappetizing, too much trouble for too little return(heartiness), or too vulnerable to weather/pests. But those potatoes look fantastic, stomach filling, and somewhat protected from the elements.

    Excellent video!

  • These potato plants will *bark, yelp* what's matter with that dog? :D

  • considering how you planted a few plants, if you only have a third of the bucket, that wasnt much.

  • looks like a fun day. right on. checkout BIOINTENSIVE growing. It has helped my yield.

Getting my food systems in place for coming economic crisis.

  • Am I suppose to wash potato after harvesting, or what to do before storing

    Thank you

  • I am growing some spuds in a large bucket! just used heavily sprited spuds that were at the back of the veg basket too long as the seed spuds...

  • I'm trying hilling them in tires this year.I like Yukon Golds.

  • Awesome!!! I bet breakfast was DELICIOUS the next morning. :-) Thanks for sharing this video!

  • Awesome!!! I bet breakfast was DELICIOUS the next morning. :-) Thanks for sharing this video!

  • what type of soil do you have?

  • That was so educational for my kids. They were so excited to see all the potatoes you were pulling up. Thank you so much for sharing this video!

  • how many potato plants did you plant?

  • "What's the matter with that dog?" haha Sounds like my neighborhood

  • Just when I needed the info I see this video. Thanks for showing the way.

  • Nice spuds. They don't grow too good down here in southern New Mexico.

  • Farmville :)~!

  • how many potatoe plants did u dig up to fill that pale ah high as it is?

  • boiled potatoes and green beans are a good combo with some olive oil drizzled on top and some smoked paprika... delicious!

  • great lookin garden kev, I cant wait to get somethin outta mine this year

  • Im jealous, us northerners cant get potatoes in May :)

  • Very cool!

  • Good idea digging with your hands. When I was a kid, my Dad would make me dig up the potatoes with a shovel. I cut a lot of good potatoes in half in my day!

  • awesome

  • Kev, when did you plant these? Mine are just now blooming.

  • You have taters already? I'm envious! You have a nice garden there.

  • You have a good crop of both beans and potatoes :-)

  • Ahhh Snickers. :) Cute!

  • When our potatoes are like that but not browning we dig into the side of the mound and pull out a few here and there for early potatoes, then push the soil back into the hole. Can do that a couple times if you have good soil by the end of the season.

  • Very nice, this is the first year for potatoes for me. The plants are still going strong so I've been leting them lay for now, but your video makes me want to go out back right now. I only did six plants this year. From two seed taters I bought for 68 cents. I havn't put anything on them (not that I'm particularly opposed to it) and thus far no bugs or rot. Beginners luck perhaps?

  • We just planted our first batch of potatoes this season, can't wait for a harvest like yours.

    Great video!

  • they are great baked splashed with a little oil- them good for soup too- :D>

  • so are all these organic or did you use hybrid seeds and/or pesticides?

  • It's been about 3 decades since I've grown taters.darned if at always like diggin buried treasure. ;)

  • I always wanted to try growing potatoes... How do you plat them anyway? Do they come in seeds? Or are the rumors true-- that you just stick a potato in the ground and it grows?

  • @RichMenAreEvil - Check out the link in the description, it covers everything from planting the seed potatoes, all the way to harvesting them.

The potatoes will start to sprout eyes. You cut a section of the potato off with the "eye" and plant it with the eye pointing up.

  • @RichMenAreEvil yup , pretty much. Just put it in the ground.

  • Are you completely self reliant food wise, or do you still go to the grocery store once a week?

  • very nice

  • I don't imagine that potatoes would even be possible to plant in a pot, hm?

  • @blueshoals You can plant them in tubs. I planted some Russian Bananas last year in old half barrels, and they grew really well. The ones I didn't get out of the tub sprouted again this year. I'm not sure about russets, but the smaller varieties can do well in tubs.

  • nice!

  • those potatoes are looking great! mine are not so big yet...are you replanting?

  • very nice garden kevin....keep the awesome vids coming. kat

  • looks good

  • i'm glad you had a good harvest. looks like good eatin, and also time to plant something else in same spot ;)

  • It looks like good eating.

  • what would you say is a good back pack for a bug out bag? peace and beer

  • @DivinityBleu sounds yummy

  • Nice...

  • I used to live in Pleasant Grove,Texas own soil was like clay we can only grow corn .Your soil in sandy what part o Texas you in?

  • boy oh boy them are some good looking tatoes what kind did you plant? I planted freedom russets and they look great.

  • @SPCkeith - just regular red potatoes

  • @survivalistboards ah alright thanks. say do you know of any places that are still selling seed potatoes? I see enough time to get another crop in but can't find seed anywhere. I found many places on the net but they seem to only ship from feb to early may. any ideas? thanks

  • @survivalistboards I call the red potatoes Walter Cronkites because they are commentators.

  • boil them potatoes in some beef stew, hmmmm.

  • Every 3 weeks I hill up soil around the plants to cover the bottom 2/3 of the plant. I think I get about double to tripe the harvest.

  • Those could grow some more. It's best to pick and let them sun dry with dirt on them until the skin hardens.About 30 mins then pick them up and use or store.

  • Nice harvest!!

  • man! JUST IN TIME.. THANX FOR THE VID AS MY PATIO CONTAINER OF TATERS IS READY TO HARVEST NOW! I APPRECIATE ALL YE RVIDS!

  • Awesome!

  • wow, nice sized potatoes kevin, you all did good this year.

  • Nice potatoes survivalistboards. Last year I got mostly small salt potatoes, still good though.

  • wow it was really worth the efford

  • Awesome video! How does the size of the potatoes affect their taste? Does it mean they are any less ripe?

  • @Ultimatemxcn Potatoes are a tuber, as soon as they form in the ground they are 'ripe'. The smaller 'new' potatoes generally are cooked and eaten with the skin on. I think that practice developed because they are a pain in the neck to peel, LOL. By not peeling them you will retain many of the minerals and vitamins when you cook them.

The larger potatoes keep better than the smaller ones in storage.

  • Great family time...Awesome Harvest..I can taste the hash browns now...

    Great video Kevin

    Charlie

  • Snickers LOL

  • If you don't mind my asking....When did you plant and what state are you in?

  • @SimplyIncredulous - I'am in Texas and the potatoes were planted in late February.

Click the link in the video description and you will see the forum thread about the garden.

  • @survivalistboards Thanks for the response - am trying potatoes myself this year and am kind of fumbling through...

    Those spuds look great!

  • Great Vid Man!

ThumbsUp and some Money Love my Friend!!

  • nice

  • Very nice. I know Its probably to late for me to start potato's but I will next year.

  • @deepwater1974 Go ahead and give it a try. Get some in the ground now, or get some planted in old tires, or leaky buckets. Just get to growing. You never know what you can accomplish until you try. If you think it might be too hot to grow them, then plant them in a shady area; if you think it might be too wet to plant them, start them above ground in containers. It doesnt take much effort. Lots of vids available on YouTube for non-traditional methods of producing a potato crop.

  • potatoes are great and are very important on the diet...hm yummy;)

    Thanks for posting

  • yummy :)

  • nice!!!!make potatoes soup =-)

  • how do you keep potatoes for harvesting next year?

    -TEW

  • @theeastwatch - store the potatoes in a cool dry place, and they will keep for months.

  • @survivalistboards Just make sure you don't wash them. It's good to keep them in the dark too.

  • @theeastwatch mine start growing the roots in late winter, just don't break the root growth. You cut them up and as long as they have part with root growth they should produce.

The farmers almanac has some great tips, including videos, if you search around there.

  • That's a lot of food. And it looked like there was a bunch more unharvested.

  • Good harvest!

  • i love potatas

  • them look good good work

  • first
