  • Petrucci - cool shirt? no...does he need a cool shirt? no...he can come out on stage with an elephant custom and still rock balls!

  • that keyboard solo was ethereal

  • Lay off the distortion, Petrucci!

  • Well, i've heard in my 16 years many bands, because of my stepfather... But DT is really the best thing after my girlfriend that happens to my life, just incredible :)♥

  • Hats off to Petrucci, but hats off to Rudess too, for one hell of a keyboard solo.

I sorta wish that Portnoy and Petrucci cooled off a little for the solo here. One of the reasons "Any Color You Like" is such a masterpiece is the fact that it's so understated - a calm and concise statement in the midst of the madness of the world. DT take this... well, they take it in their traditional direction. It's excellent... just not in the spirit of the piece.

  • @d314152 i agree with your point, but wen you do a cover, you're allowed to to make a few adjustments to make the song a bit of your own. my opinion i like it because it adds a dt element to the song , of course everyones entitled to their own opinion so i respect yours as well

  • 3:51 - 4:05

to those who say that he's way to technical. he's not playing anything and yet sounds like good.

    Fººk you

  • Hmm I wonder if Jordan has ever taken Omnisphere out on the road?

  • @highlife0586 he has

  • A me fa impazzire questa versione, amo i Pink Floyd e vorrei che i Dream Theater suonassero tutte le loro canzoni, anche le più vecchie, sarebbe magnifico....

  • WTF

  • Jordan Rudess --> I'm glad that terrible beard didn't last long. But then you replaced it with an even worse one, only to be outdone by bluebeard on the drums.

Job well done DT. Another high quality cover.

  • Dream Theater shit all over Pink Floyd, no question.

  • No cabe duda que son unos masters!!!!

  • itd be funny to hear what other singers would sound like taking labries position, like grohl, XD, or anyone, idk just a thought, would be interesting, ive always wanted to hear DT with someone with a raspy voice

  • keyboard noob only plays white notes...... jk lol.

    Rudess always wins.

  • I love how when Petrucci covers a guitar solo, he adds a load of his own style too it, but really emulates, or tries to emulate, the person who played it originally's style :)

  • Aaaaa!! Rudess lol)))))

  • If DT was strictly an instrumental band i think they would still have just as many fans..

  • @RobSchneeberger

Maybe they would have even more fans, like me ^^

Theres not much instrumental music today, with a good groove, like this. It just goes into you and grabs you.

Is this a normal Dream Theater Gig ?

  • No not really. Yes, the fans would like DT if they were solely instrumental, but they wouldn't have as much publicity and therefore wouldn't have as many fans.

  • @RobSchneeberger Maybe even more. I personally dislike the "Labrie" approach to their songs. Actually the tone of his voice is far too boring for DT.

  • @RobSchneeberger Check out liquid tension experiment its essentially dreamtheater w out labrie- sheer awesomeness.

  • @RobSchneeberger, if they could write music like pink floyd. :P

  • @RobSchneeberger : totally agree... Although I like James' singing voice too..

  • @RobSchneeberger like LTE

  • @RobSchneeberger Yeah, but it wouldn't be the same without LaBrie. He is the voice of DT. All of them are amazing together and on their own at the same time.

  • @BillyJimmyBobbyTimmy see i love dream theater because i love the musicianship of the band members. to me labrie is tolerable in their songs that are more progressive and less metal. personally and this is only my opinion , i dont think his voice suits the band at all in their heavier realms like on the album train of thought for example. sounds like he's trying too hard to sound like a metal singer when really he's not

  • @RobSchneeberger There actually IS a purely instrumental version of dream theater. Its called Liquid Tension Experiment.

  • @bambam111992 Not really, but very close, the bass player is Tony Levin, not John Myung

  • There's just no hating these guys as musicians.

  • DT...u guyz rock....I luv da solos....U guyz r a gr8 inspiration..!!

  • I have never seen Petrucci play this fast. This is unbelievable.

  • if you think this was fast and nbelievable..than you should listen to some other stuff from dream theater...you will be impressed, hes a god.

But take care sometimes his skills can kill you or you fly through time... ;)

  • My comment that I have never seen Petrucci play this fast was sarcastic. I am a big fan of DT, I was just joking about him playing so slow in this video.

  • Stream of consciousness???

  • SPLENDIDE...Waouhhhhhhhhh..

    °IIIIII°

  • LOL from the back Rudess looks a bit like Daughtry! (but that's where the comparison ends :D)

  • rofl yeah

  • Petrucci fucked up at 4:13.

  • how can u tell? an why even point that out

  • nobody is perfect

  • Petrucci has a nice shirt on this vid!

  • is this a moog sound?

can i achieve it with my mini moog vst?

    never tried

  • its not a moog sound exactly but you can make it with your Arturia Moog VST. Off the top of my head I believe its a saw wave and a bit of square wave under the saw with some resonance ( very little). A TON of delay with medium sustain on your ADSR.

  • yep, you got it bout right, and you can also make a Moog-ish sound with a Novation Xiosynth funny enough :), decent one too

  • at the echoes Petrucci was really worser than Gilmour. Petrucci is great musician, he is da best in technique, but guitar of Gilmour sings the way I can't explain. Petrucci has best technique, but for me Gilmour is God. With medium with medium technique and full of soul solos.

  • that is a very racist comment....

Dream Theater in this concert did a true tribute to a band that influences them in many of their songs....and guess what they did a fantastic job with it.....part of all that hate is jealousy...You can't master your instrument as these guys do...They are not american..they are universal....so is their music

They are coming to my hometown....can't wait :-P

  • you know.....it's with arguements like that instead of making me angry....make me feel sorry for you...for your lack of capacity of dialog and discussion and of course I feel sorry for your obvious jealousy towards Dream Theater....

I hope you have it in you to grow up :-)

  • do yourself a favor....stop projecting yourself in others.....we don't care how many cocks you suck or how fag you look.....really....get a life......

as i said...I feel sorry for you.....do your parents know you come to the internet to use foul language....i bet they don't

  • as they say in World of Warcraft

    /ignore macizo25

    /kick

    /ban

  • had a good time on weakend ?????? did you sucked cocks ? how about your anal beds ?? did you clean it ?

  • loved every second of it

great cover of a great song

  • It's a frickin cover! They do it THEIR way...which is the way it should be. If you want to hear it exactly like Floyd, go listen to Floyd. I like them mixing it to their style...

  • Or Classic Albums Live, they do a good job of that as well :)

  • honestly idk how you anyone can say this is emotionless. i thought this did justice to the original. you dont have to look constipated to have emotion in your playing.

  • Jordan Rudess is the Rick Wakeman of the 21st century !!!!

  • I wonder if DT would ever do any Yes covers?

  • they did a bit of heart of the sunrise in a medley i do believe

and played a song with steve howe somewhere. not sure if its on youtube...

  • I have to find that!!!! HOTS is one of my all time favourites from Yes.

  • they did with steve howe

  • Holy Llamahats. What did Petrucci do to his hair? Õ_o;

  • I really liked Jordan work here, still touchy and psychadelic... awesome

  • oh btw is this DT or is this another band with rudess and petrucci?

  • Guess

  • harharhar....

    oh this id DT alright.

  • great cover...but it doesnt send shivers down me and make my airs stand on end like the original does.

    Peace

    Brian

  • this sounds pretty nice.....maybe lackin a lil emotion though

  • It's not lacking emotion, it's just lacking fender. people who's been listening to songs long time ago when pretty much everybody used fender think that's emotion. it's not, it's the tone and the nostalgia, not emotion. petrucci puts a lot of care into what he plays, and he has just about enough of emotions of gilmour does.

  • I guess I somewhat agree with you, But on the other hamd, this song should be played with a damn Fender. It's a cover and should sound like the original.

  • lol that i must agree on also. ibanez (i think that's an ibanez, i dunno) is more metal than rock. i guess it's a little more ... eh clearer?

  • yea cleaner is the word I would use also....An Ibanez is def more suited for metal, or maybe some Van Halen. Props to Pettruci though, he's very talented

  • The guitar is Petruccis own custom Erbieball/Musicman and it doesnt have that kind of unique sound what fender does, altough its a great guitar and i love it! And so i do love JPs playing!

  • What? Don't be absurd... what's the point of a cover if it sounds like the original? Do you think Deep Purples Hush, Jimmi Hendrix's Wild Thing or any of the covers by Ed Alleyne-Johnson would mean anything if they were simply copying the original. The point and genius of a good cover is to portray yourself in a recognisable or influential piece of music.

  • I guess you have a point, but at the same time, sometimes a cover should sound like the original or it disgraces the song. Petrucci did it justice, I just dont think his style is good for this song

  • Mhmm, I see a point, except for Ed Alleynes cover of shine on you crazy diamond, I can imagine few other bands working it to there own style without changing everything that it is meant to be about. That theory just doesnt apply to this song, which i personally love, but to each his own.

  • So let me get this straight. You think Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower" should sound just like Dylan's original?

    Wow.

Good thing you weren't Hendrix; we wouldn't have one of the greatest songs of all time.

  • Listen to Petrucci do Comfortably Numb and tell me his style isnt good for Floyd

  • The solo is nothing on gilmours, i felt petrucci could've done more on it, he shreds too much and his slower playing lacks the timing and finese of gilmours :-(

  • untrue....listen to the solo of goodnight kiss for example....a slow solo full with emotion and perfect timing and more finese than gilmour could :-)

Gilmour is great but Petrucci is a true god

  • Racking Petrucci on timing is just silly. He is one of the most precise guitarists of our time along side Guthrie Govan. They are human metronomes not even considering their soulful, elegant, virtuosic playing.

  • I totally agree with you, but I would have to say the petrucci is too perfect and sometimes lacks the feel of gilmour. For example his playing is so precise he almost sounds mechanical and furthermore he uses more exercise style licks over gilmour.

  • Please stop saying that precise = mechanical and sloppy = soul, it's irritating. Pertucci plays with such musicality AND precision that you can't take anything away from him for being technically fluent as well.

  • @vaiisbetter actually I wish John petrucci would fuck up on guitar more often ... if he isn't technically proficient then I can confirm he has a soul.... hahahahahaha. I totally agree with you actually.

  • thats not true, petrucci does hav an amazing feel to the guitar, listen to his solo from the spirit carries on, or hollow years, you'll change your mind rly fast

  • give petrucci a strat and hed be able to do it!! (only joking).

  • An amazing cover, and I definitely think it serves justice to Pink Floyd. Petrucci made sure he stayed in the style of Gilmore yet he added his own into the mix. Very great work!

  • just shut the f up and enjoy it my friend

  • no, that's scissors sisters version of Comfortably Numb. As always Dream Theater does a great cover and it's cool that they jam abit over this song.

  • ARE YOU SURE, THE IMPROV WAS AYIIGHT

  • arghghghg he cocked up my favorite bit of the song the off beat stabs before the solo urgggfgffff im not a happy bunny haha ...oh wait i can just listen to darkside and make it all go away :D

    Peace

    Brian

  • ok then, then, make a band make it as famous and skilled as dream theater and make a cover of pink floyd if you say this one is bad :D

  • nice version, virtuoso playing style but then again wish one is pink , i have the dvd ,ausie floyd is the right one for tone and effects ,even the floyd bootleg sound better

  • it should be a rule. if you're going to play Dave Gilmour solos you must have a fender. there's no excuse for butchering his clasic tone with anything but. I don't care how good or fast or clever you are. its NOTHING without tone. too many hours in front of Marshall stacks they're all deaf. Fender has 'something', I don't know what, but they got it.

  • This is so damn badass. This is one of my favorite songs off DSoTM. Feels like a jam session more than a song.

    RIP Rick Wright.

  • that's a lucky korg oasys lol

  • en que DVD encuentro esta precentasion

  • the dark side of the moon

  • Holy crap.. I've never seen Jordan do that..

  • I think the Oasys is a great model...

  • Why don't Rudess use these kind of keyboard programming in DT music? He insists in overuse of guitar sounds in his solos!

He should use more mellotron and analogic synthetizers sounds.

  • I think because hes trying to stand out from the pack. Wakeman, emerson, moraz, banks- all or the "classic" greats used Moogs, ARPs, Mellos RMIs and all the early synths. Although I play with more classic sounds like the early guys, Jordan is in a league of his own when it comes to programming

  • awesome cover!!! miss you Rick.......

  • ROFL 2.16 petrucci is starting getting high!!!

watch his face for the duration of his solo.

long live pink floyd for this awesome tune.

    R.I.P richard wright

  • It was going pretty good for the first minute... then it became a talent show.

  • Any Colour You Like, PULSE CD2

  • Rudess's beard is awesome almost as good as his playing. These guys rock petrucci is god to me ^_^

  • Petrucci is god with guitar like David Gilmour also. Wright vs. Rudess

  • dumb elitist fuck. quit ruining music.

  • what gives you the right to declare the rights they have to take classic songs and make them there own while respecting and honoring the tradition of the legends that wrote them?

  • Fuck that, these guys and The Machine are the only people who can do justice to Floyd tunes, other than the band itself.

  • @eiddezepope do you mean rage against the machine or some other band

  • @padfootpak He means The Machine. It's a Pink Floyd tribute band.

  • And You shouldn't dare make a fool out of yourself just for the sake of gettng some responses and negative comments. But well to each its own.

  • iSweet.

  • woops i meant any colour you like...my bad..

  • shine on you crazy diamond??

  • what is the name of this song

  • breathe or "breathe in the air"

1st 1/2 song from the Dark Side of the Moon

  • No it's not Breathe, this one is Any Colour You Like.

  • Yeah, totally Any Colour You Like.

Speak To Me / Breathe has the heartbeat track in the beginning of it.

Though I never really liked Dream Theater, their keyboardist is awesome.

  • oh..my..god, i totally forgot about this dvd

  • I don't care if this isn't completely melodic sounding. This song was meant for jamming. I absolutely love this.

  • Lol look at Rudess Little Rack.

  • I have this DVD, it's great :)

  • being a big floyd fan i have to say they did pretty good its not quite as good as the original in my opinion, certain parts werent very melodic, but it was good non the less, i loved the drummer and bassist though they were perfect

  • My God! He plays on the other way! o_O...there will never be a second Jordan Rudess i guess!

  • Wow...do you realize how hard it is to play from the other side? I can't even play basic stuff from there.

  • I am not a keyboardist but I've seen it done before. Keith Emerson playing Bach Tocatta while lying on the floor through a hammond organ. With the instrument on top of him and backwards.

  • Wow.

  • Look for Pictures at an Exhibition. I think is there.

  • also i've seen Vitalij Kuprij do it.

  • Rudess kinda looks like a skinny/small version of that guy from blade 2 lol anyone agree ?

  • yeah, "THAT GUY FROM BLADE 2" really tells us who you're talking about XD

  • Rudess has done so many awful things with his facial hair....

  • That was unbelievable!

  • Monsters

  • Just shut the fuck up all of you.

The music is different and amazing in their own ways.

Stop crying everytime a band you don't like covers your favourite song. Besides, nobody gives a shit about your music tastes but you.

  • No one really gives a shit about your opinion but you too. Remember that. For the rest of your life.

  • Rudess is unreal...thought that was a moog at first til i saw it.

  • Jesus Christ. Nope, and there's six strings, not 11. And just cause they both (Li and Myung) happen to be Asian musicians doesn't mean they're the same person.

  • LOL 11 STRINGS!

  • i mean its maybe hard to play but way i mean WAY HARD TO COMPOSE!!! and thats wat gilmour did RESPECT TO DAVID GILMOUR AND JOHN PETRUCCI

  • i mean its maybe hard to play but way i mean WAY HARD TO COMPOSE!!! and thats wat gilmour did RESPECT TO DAVID GILMOUR AND JOHN PETRUCCI

  • i wouldnt say that, actually, even objectivly Pink Floyd is behind (charts and whatever you wnat) so i'd diplomaticly say : there are no slaves, no gods.

  • lets put it this way.. its just a band covering another band that they like... and it sounds great. dont compare.. there is nothing to compare... you cant compare between two musicians or two bands...this is not windows xp vs macintosh.. this is music..

  • When thinking about which musician is better, we should think about what those musician should answer to that question. Probably they will say they work hard to be the best musician they can be, but they'll find ridiculous to be compared with any other musician. Always it seems to be kind of competition in which no musician involved should actually participate. Just stop making comparisons and enjoy that we share our lifes with big and extremelly good musicians as DT and many others are.

  • aargh!! 5 out of 5!! Jordan is just awesome!!

  • What band is this?

    Guessing Dream Theater?

  • right they both are from dt

  • Awesome...I like how I can actually hear Myungs basswork loud and clear in this video.

  • Yep, unlike their live DVD

  • i wish people would stop trying to compare guitar players. john petrucci is OBVIOUSLY a better player technically. but there is a reason dream theater covers pink floyd music. they love it, JOHN PETRUCCI ISN'T A GUITAR PLAYER, HE IS A MUSICIAN!

let everyone think about that for a while.

  • Amen to that.

  • don't compare david gilmoure with petrucci people...you are right, petrucci is a very technical player among my favorites of all time, but there's a reason why he's doing gilmoure's part...gilmoure might be the most soulfull guitar player of history and time...if you don't feel his playing then there's nothing to feel...petrucci is great to cover all this and express all that emotion...thank you DT! and master petrucci. you make Pink Floyd fans proud.

  • Completely agree.

One thing's for sure, Gilmour and Petrucci are both amazing MUSICIANS.

  • well jordan is he best at what he does

  • very nice video, thanx for upload

    ^^

  • You guys are insane. Of course Petrucci plays more notes...listen to the style of music! He's a prog-shred guitar player!! How could you possibly say he's a bad player? Both are good, and you might like Gilmour's phrasing or style better, but theres no doubt Petrucci can run circles around Gilmour on the guitar.

Not to say Gilmour is a bad player....He's one of my favs.
