Yeah `Letterman never does any of the funny shit he used to.He used to go out in the streets and just have funny interactions with people. `like going through the Mcdonalds drive through and ordering the veal chop.No real originality it's all the same as any other late night talk show
Chris Elliott mimics Jack Hanna as he brings out a "Rastafarian Snow Leopard" actually, a rabbit in swimming trunks. Anyone have this? Please upload very funny bit.
@abehammy Late Night aired on NBC from 1982 to 1993 in the 12:30 AM time slot ; Late Show has aired on CBS at 11:30 PM slot since 1993. Light Night was edgier and more creative than Late Show, with an anything goes type of feel to it. Dave did crazy theme shows, remote segments, silly stunts (putting on a velcro suit and sticking to a wall), bizarre things with technology (strapped a camera to a monkey and had him run around the studio), etc. YouTube has many Late Night videos you can watch.
@hariseldon59 Wow, sounds like I would have had a blast watching it at night if I were born around the time it was playing. I got to experience Conan's Late Night show and loved it but I still would want to experience Dave's on TV
@hariseldon59 His early years on CBS were pretty good.By then they still did the Remote segment and still had a little bit of edge to it although they had to tone it down more for the 11:30 audience. but his show now, like SNL is the bland verson of what is used to be, and MTV is nothing like it used to be. Television in the 80s seem much better

I can't convey how much I miss the original Late Night with Letterman. It was edgy, original and real...and funny as hell, unlike the crap he sadly started doing after he got the shaft from NBC in the whole Tonight Show fiasco.
It turns out that it was The Guy Under the Seats that invented "spooky" and that it wasn't Yours Truly after all. Thank you David Letterman and Chris Elliott, for the respite.
I actually remember seeing this as a kid, I was too young to get it and was genuinely scared. I've had nightmares about this clip. But seeing this makes me realise it was funny
chris elliott is so underrated, its sad. its so not fair.
like that rolling stone salute to comedy issue said about him "meet the original man-child who inspired a generation of slacker comics to not grow up - and never got credit for it."
"One of these days mister, your little fantasy world is gonna come crashing to an end. And when it does you'll know who to thank." From the FDR g.u.t.s. when he asks Dave if he's seen his little dog Feller. I have that one! I'll post it soon.
Thanks for posting this, do you have any more G.U.T.S.? This was good, but they're even better when Chris does the final threat. The only one I remember now went something like "one day you'll find yourself on the rollercoaster at Christ Elliot-Land, and I'll be controlling the brake lever!" My favorite part of these were the creepy synthesizer notes Paul was playing, a sort of descent into madness motif.
The thing about Get a Life was it was way ahead of its time. Ever since it ended, there have been shows doing similar things to what Chris did for the 2 seasons the show lasted on FOX. That tells me he knew what he was doing, but TV wasn't ready yet.
leaving my 2nd comment here, but i have to agree with you. if you watch any commentary on get a life , you learn that chris elliott refused to conform to what writers and producers asked him to do and he always wanted to keep his unique genius sarcasm, crossed with a sort of vaudeville intentional stupidity. he is by far my favorite comic, and just like his father one of the most under rated greats in my opinion
Great stuff! I remember this character and his closing line. I stole it so many times in Elementary School. Was so glad the creepy ventriloquist dummy had a freak out at the end!
Late Show is now beating the Tonight Show in the ratings btw.

Chris Elliot was one of the things that made Letterman so funny back then. Remember him as Marlon Brando?

I can't believe how hot his daughter is. She's on SNL now.

Letterman used to be such a great show before he turned into a grumpy, sore, unfunny liberal hack.
