The way your petting it doesn't seem really gentle.. Guinea pigs have very fragile backs, you don't want to hurt it. Just gently stroke its fur. I bet he will enjoy that! ^_~ my guinea pig does...

The guinea pig might be biting because the petting might be too rough....or he could possibly have mites or a skin problem....which makes petting painful. Either way a check up from the vet couldn't hurt.

You just have to keep handling the little guys, since there is no socialization in a pet store, so they need to be handled constantly to get used to you and eventually to bond with you, lots of treats with cuddles helps too.

Looks like you're maybe petting him too rough? Guinea pigs are very gentle animals. My vet told me the purr noise is from them not liking it, all 4 of mine make that noise when they're lower backs are rubbed.

No it doesnt. when they have there backs rub they see it as some sort of sexual thing which is why they lower their backs as it actually 'feels nice'. My guineas like it and normally they vibrate which is a sign of them being content. when theyre aggressive they mainly squeek a HELL of a lot, although they are very rarely agressive to their handler =]

It's a dominant behaviour in guinea pigs, mostly male, but female too, to try get anything off their back. Mounting other pigs a way of asserting dominance, and the mounted pig usually does not appreciate it and will try to get the other pig off it's back. It's also a sexual response, kind of like when you pet a cat at the base of the tail and it raises it's behind and tail in the air.

Actually, he isn't doing anything malicious at all. When you scratch their itch on their back their natural instinct is to try and bite it - like a dog moves its leg when you give it a good scratch. We do it to ours all the time.
