We are different individuals and think differently. You may be right. But the “insect knowledge” what the Bible has provided is more than enough for a simple person to see what he/she wants to see ,understand and practice. I never compare it the way you see it my friend
Agreed, The most important fact is to practice what you can do and not what you cannot do but except it as a “great philosophy”[any religion]. This will not help to achieve to get the necessary insight to understand what we are looking for.
I really do not understand why some people believe or think that meditation is only belonging to Buddhism and Hinduism. The Bible mentions the word “meditation” many times. But biblical meditation means thinking, deep thinking, contemplating. The prophets and the messengers of God received visions and revelations while they are in their deep meditation. I do meditate for this kind of music which is perfect. But not as a Buddhist.
@1959520 Be Christian, practise Buddhism. Be Buddhist, practise Christianity. There is no problem until you keep pure motivation. Why? Why do you practise meditation? Why are you Christian? Why Buddhist? That is a good start.
This is my message to meat eaters: Why don't you eat your own children, for Buddha's sake? What if in next life you won't get human form? If you get animal body and be fed in Meat Factories artificially by a tube ( faster, saves money of taxpayers ) finally slaughtered in a Slaughter House. How would you feel? It is possible, bad karma. Whose? Yours. Open PETA's Site and watch videoes showing skinning alive animals in China for their fur. Or Seals Hunt in Canada.
@dtseringdorje I would class meat-eaters into two types, ignorant and in knowledge. Most are basically ignorant of the immense pain and suffering of animals that has to take place, and that they support, every time they purchase some meat for eating. Some know, but hide behind the fact that 'we were not the ones who held the knife, so we don't get the karma'. Personally, I'm much more appalled by the second lot. Once we know, we should stop, or risk becoming hard-hearted and uncaring over time.
@dtseringdorje ...because, while the karma of actually holding the animal and killing it yourself is the most serious, financially supporting this industry is ALSO a negative karma, as I said it reeks of lack of compassion. Over time this 'looking the other way' while fellow beings are slaugtered for one's sake would surely result in a hardened heart, even without all the fear and stress hormones one gets from eating killed anuimals.
The best option: the natural human diet: vegetarianism.
@porque117 What, because we happen to have two teeth that are a little bit pointy? Because the rest of our teeth are those of a vegetarian mammal; our very long digestive tract is that of a vegetarian mammal (carnivores have a short one, so that meat can be digested quickly, and not begin to rot - yes, nice thought eh...), our stomach acids are not strong as those of a meat eater (kills alot of the germs, and some parasites), and look - no claws for bringing down prey, either!
@hearts0ngs No, 1. because there are enzymes that digest proteins that are found within animal meat inside the human stomach, 2. what do you think nails are? due to lack of use they have become shorter, and 3. our teeth are the same as any other omnivorous animal on the planet, with incisors, canines and molars
@fastone32 god created animal forms on earth, for souls to express different expressions of individuality, not to be eaten. They live to express diversity. We do not own them, and they are not only to be eaten. There is far more plants and fruits that give the appropriate nutrients to live very strong and yet still remain peaceful. We are humans, lets prove to ourselves that we can respect all life forms and let all creatures enjoy life on earth. Otherwise we will only face our own consequences
@ShaolinRambo It's human nature to eat meat..there's nothing to prove. God is fair to all things, god is gory. If god didnt let us appreciate the violence / death / meat eating in life , you wouldn't really learn a thing or experience different except to one state of thinking... That's just your opinion actually and it wont change a thing if we let all animals live , they would probably take over the earth. .well because they live on their instincts like humans and its there will to survive..
@fastone32 Because we are not meant to be alone here, maybe? Also, animals keep a balance in Nature going, that actually helps us. We need spiders to keep the insect population down, earthworms to aerate the soil in which our crops grow, bees to pollinate the crops, insect eating mammals to keep the insects from becoming too numerous...it goes on...but basically, animals and plants actually need each other, we are interdependent. Remember also that we mammals need Oxygen, and plants need CO2!
@fastone32 There is a chain of food in Nature, one eats the other. There are 3 levels of cosmic energy named in Sanscrit: gunas. ( tamas, rajas, sattva) ignorance, passion and goodness. For these are 3 respectful food to consume. Meat, blood and bone eaters belong to tamas ( tigers, lions, wolfs ). Hot, spicy food belongs to rajas ( beings short tempered, quorelers, greedy people). Sweet, soft and fragrant food belongs to sattva ( spiritual, gentle, meditation oriented people ). Which you are?
@dtseringdorje I AM ALL OF THE ABOVE. . You are deluded with your wizardy jargon old man... seriously asshole im not here to debate on what's most righteous when it comes to food.. And since when does respect come to food? who the fuck are you worshipping in respect's to that nature, let me guess, u go no fuckin clue do you. all you do is sit at home , meditate , smoke pot and think everything's fucking dandy, dont you. Food is mother fucking FOOD , EAT THAT SHIT AND GET ON WITH IT
@fastone32 My dear Friend. Bro! Japanese invented technology for making a burger from human's dropping. TRY THAT ONE. Aniway, thank you for so many useful compliments and I am open for suggestions. Don't eat food which will harm you in a future. If you value your health I suggest for you to eat sattvic food. You will live longer and develop more happy life, both phisicaly and mentaly.
@porque117 Do you want to be porque or porc? Try to bite your teeth into your own arm. What do you feel? You need to make a trip to a Slaughter House in your town to see and experience sufferings of animals who are slaughtered by buthers. You need to hear their cries for help which won't come. Maybe your own sufferings will open your eyes and make you more compassionate and caring person. You can hold your believes but are they correct and true? If you contract fatal disease like cancer ..what?
@dtseringdorje Animals eat other animals, its nature, and i can honestly say that visiting a slaughter house would not bother me in the slightest, I've killed, cooked and eaten animals before, the only thing that i might have issue with is hunting needlessly, but as long as you replenish the population, i don't see a problem with it.
@dtseringdorje This karma thing seems like total malarkey, if you've let go of everything in the world in an attempt to become enlightened, surely karma would become null due to the fact that even if bad things happen, you have no reason to become upset about them, as youve already let them go
@porque117 Now you are talking. Very good. If there is only this life and there isn't any one after our death, then theory of karma doesn't work. Bad people live happy, wealthy life, good people suffer etc. But if there was a chain of infinit lives in the past and will be infinit lives in the future, if there are six modes of unenlightened existance
( Hells, starving pretas, animals, humans, fighting asuras, devas) then karma fits very well if you give yourself time to investigate. It is magic.
@dtseringdorje But if you dont remember anything of previous lives, then whats the point of trying for good karma, its exactly as if you only had one life
@porque117 That's exactly as you are saying. I have sleep dreams almost every night. I don't remember all of them. I am sure you don't remember your dreams you dreamed ten years ago or twenty years ago. Does it mean you didn't have dreams in the past? There are people in India and Tibet, who remember something from their past lives. Lord Buddha Shakyamuni got insight into all His past Lives. How? He realised Universal Mind Emptiness and attained Union with Universe, as Fully Unfolded Awareness.
@porque117 You are not okay to be left on thin ice. You need power, beauty and wealth, both materially and spiritually. But nobody will give that to you free. It is your job to make a living. You are strong, healthy and self assured fellow, now. But we never know what the future will bring. I am inviting you to be a champion of mercy and compassion. Find skillful means to develop your spirit and mentality. Help others, animals included, and you will build yourself an island of gold and jewels.
@porque117 You are not a 100% human being. You like to kill, cook and devour animals because you are a carnivorous animal yourself. Those animals whose bodies you are absorbing into your own body as a building blocks of meat & blood, will turn upon you in the future with just demands of eating your body as a natural process of food chain. Today you eat me and I will eat you tomorrow. Call it a justice. I call it karma.
@porque117 You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. There are hope and future to shape up. Because waking and dreaming states are illusions you can influence your future through wise decisions. There you can avoid mental turmoil and physical pain and turn that into peace of mind and bliss. The whole universe is opening before you!
Take advantage on this opportunity and release yourself from endless darkness of samsaric circle of Births & Deaths, which couse endless sufferings of sentient beings.

Im trying meditation and breathing exercises for the first time, im trying to research Zen but im finding it quiet hard to find any information, any help?
oh my god, that was such an amazing experience, it was surreal! i was miles away, so peaceful and just as the music stopped my eyes rolled back slowly opened... so strange! i'm no buddhist but i do love to meditate and this is the best and most effective meditation song i've heard in ages! and by the way STOP ARGUEING, your ruining the peaceful ambiance!
@xemoxlovex22 I respect your opinion! My viewpoint isn't one held by all Buddhists in fact, I would say the majority share your view. However, being required to eat meat for survival and health reasons is very different then doing it for pleasure. To escape Samsara (the suffering we all go through in life) one can't cause suffering to other beings, human or animal. I just don't believe one can find true harmony with nature by doing this. But the Buddha did eat meat so it definitely is possible
Doess Any One Know THe Name Of The Song... Music like this leaks thru the mind and seeps into the inner-most part of my own spirit.. it allows the mind to be opened you kno.......
On Tibet, I think it is dangerous to put religious affairs so close to affairs of state.
The Dalai Lama is a wise man, but he is not alone in this matter and some violent "pro-Tibet" manifestations have already taken place with people dressing like buddhist monks (I prefer to believe they were not authentic members of the Sangha).
A buddhist question, if Buddhism is to be heard: is there a Tibet? Is there a China?
In all this game, the devil is the victim, is the scapegoat, will be acused of everything cause the GOD don’t want any rivals. Conclusion: live at the full in the freedom of GOD (praying in a right form, following the INSTRUCTIONS in the Bible - keeping the 10 commandments - including keeping the Saturday as the 7th day etc.) instead of in the incapacity and limited power of devil cause he is just a temporary puppet.
Just to interject willy-nilly to spread some info, don't be offended, in regards to the meat-eating subject: Many foods besides meat give you protein and iron, and much of the world is purely vegetarian and healthy. Also, the human body while it can eventually digest meat isn't designed in the most efficient style possible like say a wolf or a lion has due to our teeth and digestive systems. Our teeth are grinders made to strip leaves and crush grain :) Love and peace!~
@Burning0Lilac You're right, it's not the most efficient system POSSIBLE, and that's because we're not Lions or wolves. We're OMNIVORES. We're designed to be able to consume and digest both types of materials. Wolves are carnivores. Cows are herbivores. Their digestive systems are primarily geared toward one type of living matter. Primates are omnivores. We are primates. Ergo, we are omnivores. I find it funny that you guys deny 10000 years of African meat-eating humans' history.
but..i like meat... om nom :) agree you need it in a healthy lifestyle way so you dont get anaemic, also china should leave tibet alone! how dare they try to make the dali lama step down! he was there first! hmph.
Perhaps ones attachment to eating meat is as strong as one others attachment to not. May we all join together as one to end suffering for all, for eternity.
@kagalive As pretty as that sounds on paper, I'm afraid the the quintessential axioms of Nature binding life on Earth dictate that death is a necessity to maintain a healthy ecosystem, and thus it will continue to happen unabated. Man has been killing one another as a means of competitive natural selection for millennia, and as grand as we'd like to think our schemes are, the reality is that this is all we're doing; following the basest instincts of survival.
Choosing meat or not is a dietary choice, not a choice of philosophy. Well it can be, but it should not be a predetermined path of philosophy, but a chosen one.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And when you pass through the rivers, they will Not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, You will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior- Isaiah 43:2-3 What Buddha Prophesied about Jesus (Yeshua) bibleprobedotcom/buddhatoldofjesus.htm

I have no doubt that Siddhārtha Gautama in atleast one stage in his life consumed meat. Most likely during his 29 years of being a prince. He still attained enlightenment though. The teachings I suppose can be open to interpretation. "Refrain from causing harm to other living beings"

@BlueberrySman Eating meat is not morally wrong and your right that it is human nature to eat meat. However, if you want to live your life in zen, if you want to raise your spirit and your mind above that of society eating meat is not an option. You can only find nirvana inside yourself, it is a choice that no one decides but you. To enlighten your mind and find true peace you must find a connection with the world around us. To find this harmony one must protect ALL life... That is Buddhism
@thedoodlekid no you can eat meat and raise your spirit and mind but to reach true enlightenment then you must then become one with everything. that means no killing of any kind this is why they believe that there needs to be people to be on the other side and eat meat so there can be balance in the world if no one ate meat then there would be more cows then us and they would be starving so balance is part of true enlightenment not not eating meat.
@gammarae79 No. There are more cows in the world because we breed them. If no one ate meet then we would not breed them anymore so there would be a natural amount of cows in the world. And there is no requirement that some people don't follow buddhism. What balance would be lost if everyone was trying to achieve enlightenment? Reaching enlightenment is about abolishing fear, greed and ignorance. Think of the problems in the world: which problem would be magnified if everyone were a buddhist?
@thedoodlekid I really like these thoughts of yours and I have a really similar opinion, however, I lately kind of think about that because death is as big as life and complets life, I'd say it is not that bad to eat meat as long as you do it really really mindfulness. I mean how can we say that there is more life in us than in an animal or even more life in an animal than in a tree or even a stone?
@thedoodlekid Many Buddhists are vegetarian, however it must be said that the Buddha himself did not prohibit the eating of meat. Many monasteries still serve meat today, and in Tibet, a high protein and fat diet was important in such a cold, often snow-covered environment. Buddhism acknowledges that rigid rules are often counterproductive, individual medical situations mean that vegetarianism may not always be the best course of action for one’s spiritual practice.
@monkeymold Wow that's interesting! I didn't know that. I only support vegetarianism because I believe in respecting life. I absolutely agree with you that rigid rules are counterproductive and I think that it isn't a necessity to refrain from eating meat. In fact, if I had a kid i would feed them meat to help them grow. But I cant see someone truly connecting with nature if they unnecessarily disrupt it. We have the ability to survive without harming the lives around us, why not live by that?
@thedoodlekid one is not immune from the karmic consequences of eating meat, particularly if it is killed for you. Some choose to eat only ethically raised and well treated animals, offer prayers and thanks to the deceased creature, or limit meat eating to a minimum.
@thedoodlekid However, in many parts of the world, including where I live, if we did not hunt, the natural balance of the area would be upset, and that many more animals would be born, and to many animals = no food for them, and then they all starve.
Don't forget that humans are a part of the food chain as well. To preserve the natural balance, we must be a part of the natural balance.
@2013Epsilon ''to many animals = no food for them, and then they all starve.''...i dont think so, there never can be ''to many animals''...there are animals that eat other animals...and no animal lives for ever
@awesomestuffish Yes, it is possible for there to be to many animals. please learn a little before commenting like that. Ill run it through for you again.
Not enough predators=to many of its prey survive and breed=eating all the grass=no more food for the animals=complete destruction of habitat.
There are places in the world that just don't really have enough natural predators. so humans step in.
so yes, there can be to many animals.
please know what your talking about before you type.
@thedoodlekid I'm pretty sure eating meat and attaining enlightenment are not mutually exclusive considering a large part of the tibetan diet is meat and most of them are buddhist and there are many other buddhists who aren't vegetarian. whether you choose to eat meat or not you can still live a compassionate life. saying that you HAVE to give up meat to rise to a higher level is just dogmatic and ignorant.
@thekenster4 Relax. No rule is universal so I agree it isn't required to refrain from eating meat. This is my own belief, I never said it was a requirement & I never said you aren't compassionate if you ate meat. I think that to find a connection with the world you can't unnecessarily harm it. I don't believe in consuming meat if you have the resources to avoid it. People in monestaries live a humble life in nature, modern society does not. if you disagree then reach enlightenment your own way
@thedoodlekid i'm sorry, but I don't think eating something that was bred specifically for consumption will have any impact on me whatsoever (unless too much is consumed of course). You cannot say that your life will become healthier without meat. Meat is part of a balanced diet, also essential for zen. Meat is essential to your physical manifestation, and in my mind I believe it is as important to maintain balance in the physical world, as well as the spiritual. May wisdom come to you. =]
@VengeanceIV I agree, Also if you hunt your meat, you have to respect the animal your hunting to catch it, or youll fail as a hunter, and in finding harmony.
@VengeanceIV It is not necessarily needed. All things you can get from meat you can get else where. Some people gain further personal spiritual advancement knowing they are not an animal eating another animal. Society has told you meat is important.
@djyasume1 society has told me nothing. I have persuaded myself of the many things that I have come to understand; but perhaps my understanding is not complete- thus i am open to ideas, ideas which do not contradict my basic knowledge. Indeed one could consume vitamins and supplements, but the human body is "designed" so to speak to consume meat- thus we are omnivores. It has been shown that those who maintain balance in their diet live healthier lives. Thus is as far as my knowledge exceeds.
@VengeanceIV Meat is less healthier than vegetables or fish since it contains lots of fats, cholesterol and toxins that harms your health. This is not zen, religion or cultural matter, this is just biology. Anyone should definitely eat more vegetables and fish than meat (white meat could be an exception, like chicken).
@despisel nonetheless, our bodies are biologically adapted to consume meat, in addition to berries, fruits, vegetables, fish, etc... I will agree with you that excessive quantities of meat do indeed come as a sacrifice to your health, but as with all things- meats are part of a balanced diet; and balance is a key element to zen.
@thedoodlekid i always found that outlook to be interesting...but to be honest i believe the native americans had it right. They ate meat but they only killed what they needed to, yet they still respected all living creatures. In nature other animals eat other animals all the time...so is it really so unnatural, isn't it true that buddhists want to be one with nature? I'm merely curious. I mean what does not eating meat have to do with becoming enlightened?
@MafiosoCH Buddhism considers a difference betweeen "sentient" and "nonsentient" life.
We consider to be "sentient" anything that moves by itself and "nonsentient" anything that does not.
I am aware of the flaws of that simple classsification, for a sunflower is a vegetable and it moves by itself, turning to the Sun, while some worms living in the vicinity of underwater volcanoes do not move, while being animals.
@MafiosoCH The point is not "to eat or not to eat" meat. Vegetarianism is a symbol of respect to life. it is a practice of renunciation for the good of other living beings.
That symbol and that practice are part of a path (a sort of training) that Buddhism uses to guide people towards enlightment. It is part of the Dharma, in many of its forms.
Of course, this is only a symbol. If you eat meat for a dietary necessity, but you truly realize the importance of life, then you are in a right path.
@JulioMarco most plants, or a lot of, turn to the sun. and also they are growing, just like we and animals do.
i do love animals! (i couldnt hurt any) (also, im working with/for animals of all different kind) ... ive got a very special relationship to many of them, like an "universal understanding" of eachother....
i was searching fo the half of my life... i am still searching...
theres always theses two sides wich leads to endless thoughts... and new searches :p
@MafiosoCH Well, if you have a deep respect for life, it is not a diet composed of meat that will elliminate this or taint you in any manner. If you are a spiritualizes person, whatever you eat will not taint you in any manner.
Religious symbols are very important, but not more important than what they represent.

Milk & Honey behind closed door.
dtseringdorje 7 months ago
@dtseringdorje I would class meat-eaters into two types, ignorant and in knowledge. Most are basically ignorant of the immense pain and suffering of animals that has to take place, and that they support, every time they purchase some meat for eating. Some know, but hide behind the fact that 'we were not the ones who held the knife, so we don't get the karma'. Personally, I'm much more appalled by the second lot. Once we know, we should stop, or risk becoming hard-hearted and uncaring over time.
hearts0ngs 6 months ago
@dtseringdorje ...because, while the karma of actually holding the animal and killing it yourself is the most serious, financially supporting this industry is ALSO a negative karma, as I said it reeks of lack of compassion. Over time this 'looking the other way' while fellow beings are slaugtered for one's sake would surely result in a hardened heart, even without all the fear and stress hormones one gets from eating killed anuimals.
The best option: the natural human diet: vegetarianism.
hearts0ngs 6 months ago
@hearts0ngs Biologically, humans are omnivorous
porque117 6 months ago
@porque117 What, because we happen to have two teeth that are a little bit pointy? Because the rest of our teeth are those of a vegetarian mammal; our very long digestive tract is that of a vegetarian mammal (carnivores have a short one, so that meat can be digested quickly, and not begin to rot - yes, nice thought eh...), our stomach acids are not strong as those of a meat eater (kills alot of the germs, and some parasites), and look - no claws for bringing down prey, either!
hearts0ngs 6 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@hearts0ngs No, 1. because there are enzymes that digest proteins that are found within animal meat inside the human stomach, 2. what do you think nails are? due to lack of use they have become shorter, and 3. our teeth are the same as any other omnivorous animal on the planet, with incisors, canines and molars

@dtseringdorje Why did got even put animals on earth then? what and how , would the first people of earth eat
fastone32 6 months ago in playlist ZEN & MEDITATION MUSIC
@fastone32 god created animal forms on earth, for souls to express different expressions of individuality, not to be eaten. They live to express diversity. We do not own them, and they are not only to be eaten. There is far more plants and fruits that give the appropriate nutrients to live very strong and yet still remain peaceful. We are humans, lets prove to ourselves that we can respect all life forms and let all creatures enjoy life on earth. Otherwise we will only face our own consequences
ShaolinRambo 6 months ago
@ShaolinRambo It's human nature to eat meat..there's nothing to prove. God is fair to all things, god is gory. If god didnt let us appreciate the violence / death / meat eating in life , you wouldn't really learn a thing or experience different except to one state of thinking... That's just your opinion actually and it wont change a thing if we let all animals live , they would probably take over the earth. .well because they live on their instincts like humans and its there will to survive..
fastone32 6 months ago
@fastone32 Because we are not meant to be alone here, maybe? Also, animals keep a balance in Nature going, that actually helps us. We need spiders to keep the insect population down, earthworms to aerate the soil in which our crops grow, bees to pollinate the crops, insect eating mammals to keep the insects from becoming too numerous...it goes on...but basically, animals and plants actually need each other, we are interdependent. Remember also that we mammals need Oxygen, and plants need CO2!
hearts0ngs 6 months ago

@dtseringdorje All this hangs on whether you actually believe in karma or not.
If you dont, then what issue is there with eating animals? theyre delicious
porque117 6 months ago
@porque117 Do you want to be porque or porc? Try to bite your teeth into your own arm. What do you feel? You need to make a trip to a Slaughter House in your town to see and experience sufferings of animals who are slaughtered by buthers. You need to hear their cries for help which won't come. Maybe your own sufferings will open your eyes and make you more compassionate and caring person. You can hold your believes but are they correct and true? If you contract fatal disease like cancer ..what?
dtseringdorje 5 months ago
@dtseringdorje Animals eat other animals, its nature, and i can honestly say that visiting a slaughter house would not bother me in the slightest, I've killed, cooked and eaten animals before, the only thing that i might have issue with is hunting needlessly, but as long as you replenish the population, i don't see a problem with it.

@dtseringdorje This karma thing seems like total malarkey, if you've let go of everything in the world in an attempt to become enlightened, surely karma would become null due to the fact that even if bad things happen, you have no reason to become upset about them, as youve already let them go
porque117 5 months ago
@porque117 Now you are talking. Very good. If there is only this life and there isn't any one after our death, then theory of karma doesn't work. Bad people live happy, wealthy life, good people suffer etc. But if there was a chain of infinit lives in the past and will be infinit lives in the future, if there are six modes of unenlightened existance
( Hells, starving pretas, animals, humans, fighting asuras, devas) then karma fits very well if you give yourself time to investigate. It is magic.
dtseringdorje 5 months ago
@dtseringdorje But if you dont remember anything of previous lives, then whats the point of trying for good karma, its exactly as if you only had one life
porque117 5 months ago
@porque117 That's exactly as you are saying. I have sleep dreams almost every night. I don't remember all of them. I am sure you don't remember your dreams you dreamed ten years ago or twenty years ago. Does it mean you didn't have dreams in the past? There are people in India and Tibet, who remember something from their past lives. Lord Buddha Shakyamuni got insight into all His past Lives. How? He realised Universal Mind Emptiness and attained Union with Universe, as Fully Unfolded Awareness.

@dtseringdorje Im still going to eat animals, because i like it
porque117 5 months ago
@porque117 You are not a 100% human being. You like to kill, cook and devour animals because you are a carnivorous animal yourself. Those animals whose bodies you are absorbing into your own body as a building blocks of meat & blood, will turn upon you in the future with just demands of eating your body as a natural process of food chain. Today you eat me and I will eat you tomorrow. Call it a justice. I call it karma.

Take advantage on this opportunity and release yourself from endless darkness of samsaric circle of Births & Deaths, which couse endless sufferings of sentient beings.

2. Burn and be punished according to your sins in hell forever , for all eternity

Peace for all.

Burning0Lilac 9 months ago
@Burning0Lilac You're right, it's not the most efficient system POSSIBLE, and that's because we're not Lions or wolves. We're OMNIVORES. We're designed to be able to consume and digest both types of materials. Wolves are carnivores. Cows are herbivores. Their digestive systems are primarily geared toward one type of living matter. Primates are omnivores. We are primates. Ergo, we are omnivores. I find it funny that you guys deny 10000 years of African meat-eating humans' history.

That is Buddhism
thedoodlekid 1 year ago 35
@thedoodlekid no you can eat meat and raise your spirit and mind but to reach true enlightenment then you must then become one with everything. that means no killing of any kind this is why they believe that there needs to be people to be on the other side and eat meat so there can be balance in the world if no one ate meat then there would be more cows then us and they would be starving so balance is part of true enlightenment not not eating meat.
gammarae79 1 year ago
@gammarae79 No. There are more cows in the world because we breed them. If no one ate meet then we would not breed them anymore so there would be a natural amount of cows in the world. And there is no requirement that some people don't follow buddhism. What balance would be lost if everyone was trying to achieve enlightenment? Reaching enlightenment is about abolishing fear, greed and ignorance. Think of the problems in the world: which problem would be magnified if everyone were a buddhist?
thedoodlekid 11 months ago
@thedoodlekid I really like these thoughts of yours and I have a really similar opinion, however, I lately kind of think about that because death is as big as life and complets life, I'd say it is not that bad to eat meat as long as you do it really really mindfulness. I mean how can we say that there is more life in us than in an animal or even more life in an animal than in a tree or even a stone?
auvenn 11 months ago
@thedoodlekid Many Buddhists are vegetarian, however it must be said that the Buddha himself did not prohibit the eating of meat. Many monasteries still serve meat today, and in Tibet, a high protein and fat diet was important in such a cold, often snow-covered environment. Buddhism acknowledges that rigid rules are often counterproductive, individual medical situations mean that vegetarianism may not always be the best course of action for one’s spiritual practice.
monkeymold 11 months ago
@monkeymold Wow that's interesting! I didn't know that. I only support vegetarianism because I believe in respecting life. I absolutely agree with you that rigid rules are counterproductive and I think that it isn't a necessity to refrain from eating meat. In fact, if I had a kid i would feed them meat to help them grow. But I cant see someone truly connecting with nature if they unnecessarily disrupt it. We have the ability to survive without harming the lives around us, why not live by that?
thedoodlekid 11 months ago
@thedoodlekid one is not immune from the karmic consequences of eating meat, particularly if it is killed for you. Some choose to eat only ethically raised and well treated animals, offer prayers and thanks to the deceased creature, or limit meat eating to a minimum.
monkeymold 11 months ago
@thedoodlekid However, in many parts of the world, including where I live, if we did not hunt, the natural balance of the area would be upset, and that many more animals would be born, and to many animals = no food for them, and then they all starve.
Don't forget that humans are a part of the food chain as well. To preserve the natural balance, we must be a part of the natural balance.
2013Epsilon 11 months ago
@2013Epsilon ''to many animals = no food for them, and then they all starve.''...i dont think so, there never can be ''to many animals''...there are animals that eat other animals...and no animal lives for ever
awesomestuffish 10 months ago
@awesomestuffish Yes, it is possible for there to be to many animals. please learn a little before commenting like that. Ill run it through for you again.
Not enough predators=to many of its prey survive and breed=eating all the grass=no more food for the animals=complete destruction of habitat.
There are places in the world that just don't really have enough natural predators. so humans step in.
so yes, there can be to many animals.
please know what your talking about before you type.
2013Epsilon 10 months ago
@thedoodlekid I'm pretty sure eating meat and attaining enlightenment are not mutually exclusive considering a large part of the tibetan diet is meat and most of them are buddhist and there are many other buddhists who aren't vegetarian. whether you choose to eat meat or not you can still live a compassionate life. saying that you HAVE to give up meat to rise to a higher level is just dogmatic and ignorant.
thekenster4 10 months ago

VengeanceIV 9 months ago 2
@VengeanceIV I agree, Also if you hunt your meat, you have to respect the animal your hunting to catch it, or youll fail as a hunter, and in finding harmony.
WlshMaggot 9 months ago
@VengeanceIV It is not necessarily needed. All things you can get from meat you can get else where. Some people gain further personal spiritual advancement knowing they are not an animal eating another animal. Society has told you meat is important.
djyasume1 7 months ago
@djyasume1 society has told me nothing. I have persuaded myself of the many things that I have come to understand; but perhaps my understanding is not complete- thus i am open to ideas, ideas which do not contradict my basic knowledge. Indeed one could consume vitamins and supplements, but the human body is "designed" so to speak to consume meat- thus we are omnivores. It has been shown that those who maintain balance in their diet live healthier lives. Thus is as far as my knowledge exceeds.
VengeanceIV 7 months ago
@VengeanceIV as i was typing my last comment i was eating fried chicken. LOL
djyasume1 7 months ago
@djyasume1 lol'd at that one =]
VengeanceIV 7 months ago
@VengeanceIV Meat is less healthier than vegetables or fish since it contains lots of fats, cholesterol and toxins that harms your health. This is not zen, religion or cultural matter, this is just biology. Anyone should definitely eat more vegetables and fish than meat (white meat could be an exception, like chicken).
despisel 7 months ago
@despisel nonetheless, our bodies are biologically adapted to consume meat, in addition to berries, fruits, vegetables, fish, etc... I will agree with you that excessive quantities of meat do indeed come as a sacrifice to your health, but as with all things- meats are part of a balanced diet; and balance is a key element to zen.
VengeanceIV 7 months ago
@thedoodlekid i always found that outlook to be interesting...but to be honest i believe the native americans had it right. They ate meat but they only killed what they needed to, yet they still respected all living creatures. In nature other animals eat other animals all the time...so is it really so unnatural, isn't it true that buddhists want to be one with nature? I'm merely curious. I mean what does not eating meat have to do with becoming enlightened?
Codysstar 9 months ago
@thedoodlekid but, isn't a plant/fruit, also a form of life? :S
MafiosoCH 9 months ago
@MafiosoCH Buddhism considers a difference betweeen "sentient" and "nonsentient" life.
We consider to be "sentient" anything that moves by itself and "nonsentient" anything that does not.
I am aware of the flaws of that simple classsification, for a sunflower is a vegetable and it moves by itself, turning to the Sun, while some worms living in the vicinity of underwater volcanoes do not move, while being animals.
JulioMarco 8 months ago
@MafiosoCH The point is not "to eat or not to eat" meat. Vegetarianism is a symbol of respect to life. it is a practice of renunciation for the good of other living beings.
That symbol and that practice are part of a path (a sort of training) that Buddhism uses to guide people towards enlightment. It is part of the Dharma, in many of its forms.
Of course, this is only a symbol. If you eat meat for a dietary necessity, but you truly realize the importance of life, then you are in a right path.
JulioMarco 8 months ago
@JulioMarco most plants, or a lot of, turn to the sun. and also they are growing, just like we and animals do.
i do love animals! (i couldnt hurt any) (also, im working with/for animals of all different kind) ... ive got a very special relationship to many of them, like an "universal understanding" of eachother....
i was searching fo the half of my life... i am still searching...
theres always theses two sides wich leads to endless thoughts... and new searches :p
MafiosoCH 8 months ago
@MafiosoCH Well, if you have a deep respect for life, it is not a diet composed of meat that will elliminate this or taint you in any manner. If you are a spiritualizes person, whatever you eat will not taint you in any manner.
Religious symbols are very important, but not more important than what they represent.
JulioMarco 8 months ago
