  • They're making a Quake for DS/3DS, i believe.

  • Found a TF DS video. PSP port is better though. Oh as get a 8GB card for the RAM, and put the QuakeGL files in the Quake and TF DS games. Makes them sharper.

  • Could you install it to your DS (TF) and make a video?

  • Is it fun on DS? Because SOMEBODY needs to make a video!!!

  • @ohnny4 I can't remember to be honest... I did implement an on-screen keyboard just for this game though ;-)

Malice was the game that I really wanted to play as a total conversion and that is definitely fun - I've put a video of that online too.

  • All that is needed now is a port of Team Fortress 1 (The Quake Mod that started CTF, Solo-Flag, and Class based MP)!!!

  • @ohnny4 The TF1 mod aldready works with QDS! You need a slot-2 RAM adaptor though.

  • wait. i dont get this. what is quake ds exactly?

  • A port from the computer version of quake by Id the same creators of enemy territories: quake and doom to the ds for a homebrew card like games n music for ds.

  • Hey man thanks for this awesome port! I have a question though. Is there a special trick to get individual (unofficial) maps to display textures properly?

Every .bsp file i've tried placed in the id1/maps folder on both my M3 (mini sd slot-2) and Edge (new slot-1 card) have all come up with this generic checkerboard pattern (Even with the Exram build).

I know you probably put this project behind you by now but thanks again for this awesome (now portable) game!

  • Easy, put the map in a pak file and number it sequentially after the other ones. Or, just add it into an existing pak file.

I'd use something like pak explorer to do this.

  • i need help mine works perfect but theres no crosshair i play way better with a crosshair can you help me

  • for some odd reason, sprites don't appear on quake ds... everything runs perfect, but no sprites

  • Untrue, mine has a crosshair, you have to make sure the config.cfg files are all correct.

  • You can rebind the buttons y'know in the menu. I seem to remember that with the config.cfg I provide (on the web site) the left shoulder button is jump. Check it out, or rebind it yourself.

  • Any chance of a fix for the EXRAM build's saving? Running a DS-X and M3 Perfect, saving gets you trapped in a wall, with the camera on its side like you're dead.

  • Hiya - gonna need to know more than just that! Which mod/total conversion are you playing? How do I replicate this?

  • I'm running just regular ID1. With a DS-X in Slot-1 (patched with DS-X DLDI) and an M3 Adapter in Slot-2. As for replicating, just start up the game like normal, go into E1M1, kill a few dudes, and save. Load the file you just saved, and you're "dead" outside the level. This happens on every RAM speed.

Additionally, if you save and load on episode/skill select, you get a bizarre "First token isn't a brace" error. Again, any RAM speed.

Hope that helps a little better.

  • Ah ok, I'll have a go when I can borrow an M3. In the meanwhile, why are you playing the regular game with the exram build? It's slower than the regular one! The regular build with hack Quake 1 just fine.

  • I had some problems with rendering on one of the episode 2 maps. Like, when you come out from underwater, the framerate falls way down to 0.25 FPS. Dunno why, but the map runs correctly in EXRAM.

It's also simpler to run just one program instead of two. Know what I mean?

  • Have you actually read the instructions on the web page that tell you how to set all this up?

  • no but how would i do it?

  • yes i did do that but if your talking about the quake ds then no.

  • Have you configured you DS to point to your AP by default. Have you read the instructions on how to set up DS wifi?

  • connecting to ap...failed

  • also all i see is connecting to ap....

  • what do i put in the "-game fortress" txt

  • man how do u install team fortress..

  • make a directory named 'fortress' in the root of your card, and copy the pak files in. And then make a text file in the root of your card and in it put (without the quotes) '-game fortress' and save it.

You'll need to use the mulitplayer build to play this, not the regular single player one.

  • hey man ,can you upload ID1 folder to rapidshare for me then pm me the link., My computer fails to install the shareware version because it is screwed up so if you could do this I will be thankful and subscribe.

  • i can (full version and orange weapon mod(watch my vid ;D))

  • There are no monsters in this build.

  • how come when i downloaded the newest version i dont get a crosshair? :(

  • awesome stuff. I bought an R4 just to play homebrew like this on my DS. I seriously doubt ID software would sue someone over a Quake mod, if so it would have been done years ago. Those of us who still have our Quake 1 CDs can play the full version of this game. I wonder if the WYRM mod can work on this>

  • this doesn't really surprise me. you can find QUAKE/DOOM on ANY system. Even Graphing Calculators. common homebrew.

  • nope. You cannot get quake or doom on graphing calculators. Just clones that look vaguely like quake or doom that have the same name. Many systems dont run doom. Really anything worse that a super nintendo.

  • Hi. I couldn't get your email information on the QuakeDS website but I have a request. Could you implement an action to happen if you double tap the touch screen? Metroid Prime on DS does this and it's a lot easier to jump that was then to press the R button. But it doesn't have to make people jump, like you should be able to bind it to anything. Bind dbltap "+jump". This would be an awesome feature :) thanks for your time. keep up the great work.

  • Looks good. Too bad I dunno how homebrew works so i can't play it :(

And 815sonicfreak518, where do you have proof for a real quake ds? i would love to see that :)

  • ds . ign . com /articles/810/810648p1 . html

  • there is a real quak doom and half-life fr the ds rom :)

  • you know they are really making a quake ds.

  • It runs not to bad.

  • If there was ever a way to enjoy Quake, it's in the palm of your hand. :)

  • damn, you have to be sell this and get rich. Great Work, i would buy it :)

  • and get sued by ID software.. not a very good idea, lol

  • why would he get sued? he didnt do anything illegal :S. as long as you have the original full game you can play it and download it as much as you want on any system/thing.

  • you know.. your right, i dont even know why i said that, i must have been replying to a comment....

  • Quake is opensource spiderexpert.

  • damnit yes i know that... someone left a comment saying "you should sell this and make lots of money" or something along those lines i was replying to THAT!! i dont know why that comment isnt there but THAT is why i said that.

  • LOL!

  • It looks wicked sick! awesome job you did Simon. You can be proud of yourself!

  • Hello simonjhall!

I am a big homebrew fan and I really look forward to this. Are you going to release it? I looked at your thread at gbadev but there is too much pages to look through :P You should update your first post with latest images and news :P And, are you going to make it DLDI compatible? Please do, so it will work on all flashcarts ^^

    Best Regards

    SOQ

  • Expect to see a release this weekend - basically as much stuff as I can get into a build by Sunday, and I'll call that a pre-release.

    And yes it supports DLDI.

Watch for a new (30-page...) thread on gbadev!

  • Ok thanks for reply!

One big question, does this need the use of the memory inside most GBA flash cards? And does Quake II need it? Just wondering because I use an EZ-Flash 4 dx and I'm afraid it's not going to be supported if extra memory is needed.

  • However it has plenty of memory inside to play with:

256 Mbits (32 Mbytes) of PSRAM memory

384 Mbits (48 Mbytes) of NOR memory

32 Mbits (4 Mbytes) of loader memory

8 Mbits (1 Mbyte) Of SRAM for saves

I was just afraid it was not going to be supported because it is not the most used GBA cart around...

If you port a game and need extra memory, make an EZ4 compatible version too, I please :)

  • Yo, what's 'loader memory'? Assuming I can get a hold of one of these cards and it does in fact have 32 megs of useful RAM, then it'll hopefully run Q2. Is the card expensive?

Q1 will run on any DS hardware that has a FAT driver written for it. No extra memory will be required - I've crammed the entire game into 4 megs :-)

  • I think the loader memory is the part that holds the EZ4 firmware in it. Have you got MSN messenger so we could talk? If so, please send me an PM with your account name ;)

  • f*** howd u do that

  • Nice

  • Nice, good to see some textures going finaly. I noticed all the effects and beasts missing. That how you managed to run it as smoothly as that so early?

  • any chance of another vid with the updated code?

  • it begs the question: why havent any badass shooters come to the ds?

  • you have been doing an incredble job!! congraulations!!

  • Hmm.. my comment seems to have disappeared! :/ You're doing an amazing job m8! Glad to hear you're still working on this :D

  • Simply amazing mate.. you're doing a fantastic job!! Was worried when I didn't see any updates on the dsquake blog for a while.. but gives me warm fuzzy feeling knowing you're still working on this and seeing how well this is progressing!! :D

  • I'm not the same person as who started a port at the beginning of last year :-)

I started mine mid-October... And just to differntiate, this is QuakeDS, not DSQuake!

Thanks for the comments btw! At least someone appreciates the hard work I'm putting into this.

  • Umm.. you might want to ignore the other comment, youtube was doing something weird with my comments! >_<

Anywho yeeah I came across your blog on dcemu and noticed you weren't the other guy.. hehe my bad :) just makes it all the more amazing then! :)

Seriously though.. fantastic job mate n looking forward to updates!! :) :)

  • I tried replying to your PM last night, but it wouldn't let me send any messages for some reason... Anyway, if you wanna be a tester check out the thread on gbadev as this is where I'll be requesting pre-release testers in a few weeks.

  • Yep the DS sucks alright, probably why it's out sold the PSP by 3 to 1.

  • nintendo was hanging on by a thread after the game cube came out. if it wasn't for the ds, i probly wouldn't be sitting on my couch crusin the net with my wii.

ever since the psp came out its been an on going debate. if their was a second analog, it would be better.

  • oh and i think you got that stat backwards.

  • Nintendo DS sales 100.85M

    PSP sales 46.51M

Sorry, meant to say the DS has outsold the PSP 2.2:1

  • because ds is cheaper lol

  • psp is more powerful but ds has been out like a year longer and has better games. PSP is very powerful, not many good games.

  • Lol this definetely proves the DS sucks in the homebrew scene, it's already ported on the psp with button assigner and wifi multiplayer and everything works perfect and it runs like the pc version, the psp also has psx and n64 emulator which the DS will never have and the psp already has many 3d homebrew

  • Oh my god! Not a button assigner! As you couldn't see the menu in this *early version* I think it's pretty safe to say there will never be wifi nor button assignment.

  • So the point of you posting this was what exactly?

  • You should post a link to this video on your blog

  • I reckon it's a fake.

  • You should know best ;)

  • Quake or fake? I'll guess Quake.

  • WIN WIN WIN! Go Simonjhall!
