@WakkieRob1 Its OK you have to be really careful with them def. don't swallow lol. Some batteries produce better results than others just depends on the battery manufacturer :P thanks for commenting.
I tried this and left them forgetting they were in there for about 3 hrs then on check I looked inside the charger and low and behold they had leaked inside charger.
I looked very close to the others when one burst spraying into my eye. Are alkalines safe to spray in your eyes! :( help!!!
@WakkieRob1 Dude there is an audible warning in the video and a written warning at the end of the video. I said do not leave them unattended and for long periods of time or they might leak or explode... there are even words to that affect on most batteries!! They are designed to leak. All scientific experiments that might be hazardous require due diligence, safety equipment and above all COMMON SENSE. Maybe you should take notice of the warnings and in future you will be able to see further.
They will leak eventually... They are made to leak. When I was a kid you could do it and they wouldn't leak, now they do. It's a conspiracy I tell you.
@psuroviec you can use any charger you might try to experiment a bit? Just make sure the voltage rating is not too high and do not leave the batteries on charge or unattended as they might leak or even explode (apparently) and damaged your equipment. Some batteries seem to have more integrity than others.
@M29NT I wasn't trying to prove anything! Just demonstrating a FACT that disposable alkaline batteries can be recharged with varying degrees of success. lol try it for yourself.
@amajlesi I tried five minutes and when I checked the batteries were almost too hot to touch, lol maybe its a bad idea to use a 15 min charger on Alkaline! the batteries did work after but can you please advise me to try this again or not? Thanks in advance :)
@amajlesi ...if the batteries are too hot to touch they are drawing a lot of current, heat is the resistance to the energy. I agree with you, a 15 minute charger is probably not a good idea! If you continue they might even explode or catch fire. NOT A GOOD IDEA!!
Thanks I am using your advice right now but to recharge an Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery (I hope that's not specifically unsafe for some reason or other.. lol).
When non rechargeable batteries get hot they leak ....we all know that hot things expand...so the chemicals inside expand and the casing expands and comes apart.
The explosion risk is if you get a battery that gets hot and does NOT leak , pressure builds up inside.
The only way to do this (whichever charger you use) is you MUST keep checking the batteries temperature by feel ..keep switching them off when they feel hot, keep looking to see if they are leaking
@pedalman someone told me that rechargeable batteries have hidden vent holes in the casing! It is not just the heat, the alkaline solution 'fizzes' during the electrolysis process.
If you used a slow 16 hour trickle charger and also maybe aimed a fan at the charger to help cool the cells it must be possible to recharge these things ....after all they are charged at the factory ! electricity does not magically appear in these cells as they leave the factory it has to be put in.
Maybe we pay more for rechargeable batteries cos they are a better casing and sealed better so they dont leak .
@pedalman great comment, it is true but in the factory the batteries are "aligned" and then packed and sealed in situ. they are designed NOT to be recharged mainly bcos of their packaging like you say. Watch the video response to this one of a more detailed explaination : /watch?v=UDwMxISYojM&feature=response_watch
@luisalberto43 Charge your batteries in a standard battery charger but only for short periods like one hour at a time. Don't leave them for longer or they might leak or explode haha you need to watch the video !
lol well you put them in a battery charger, but only for short periods at a time. I think I mentioned this in the video ;) watch the video response you can see the full version.
If you use a quick 4hr charger , yes charge them for short periods of 30 mins so the cells dont get hot, expand and leak.
I wouldnt use a rapid 30min charger for this.
If you use a trickle charger (16 hours) instead of a quick charger and use a fan blowing on them they wont get hot .
The rule is until you find out if any of this works you must keep a close watch and keep feeling the batteries for temperature....definitely dont leave them charging on the living room floor .
MAttBlythe: you are RIGHT I got a RAYOVAC CHARGER & I charges 4 AA Duracell 4 time 1 time 1hr next time for 7 hrs 3rd time for 2hrs & last time 1 hr !! AND it works fine but i will not Charge them as long next time. but it works good.
hi I was just illustrating a point of course I didn't lie why don't you conduct your own research at home and see for yourself? Or watch this other video /watch?v=lzunELDAD3w and smell the coffee!
when my batteries are low or dying, i just shove them in the microwave for 1 minute. which is dangerous, i know. also you can buy a recharger to recharge non rechargeable batteries
really? what happens when you shove them in the microwave? I imagine the microwaves agitate the alkaline solution, and microwaves carry A LOT of electrical energy... /watch?v=3_Ptrwzj10M
I also imagine there is quite a high chance of the battery exploding... /watch?v=_hNRX-UOozU
when i shove the batteries in the micro wave, they heat up but only slightly on the outside but get really hot on the inside, DO NOT do this on HIGH power and For more than 1 minute or else they will explode OK. this is just to squeeze some extra life out of the batteries. and when i used to work as a tech guy, we had a battery charger thats was for charging normal batteries, it has a processor built in that controls the flow so they don't leak or explode and you can recharge again & again.
batteries do not die, they become unusable when the alkaline solution dries out and they will no longer sustain a charge... some batteries are so poorly packed that once they have spent their initial charge they become "disposable". See the full length video (in the video response), thanks :)
lol I did recommend "short periods"! I had one leak on me but it only made a small fizzing noise and the charger was fine. I recommend you re-watch the video and conduct your own responsible research!
I love your vids because it helps stop people buying more junk when they haven,t used up the last lot. lol

It's alright there are completely safe apart from if you swallow!
When they leak they've had it I think!
I think I'm gonna get a plug timer, it's not that I'm ASMF but I forget very easy because I had a accident and got slightly brain damaged!

@6x10x23 Of course it is... doesn't matter what charger you use as long as it doesn't overcharge (too high voltage and amps). Oh yes !
