  • James LaBrie can do any note and every octave of that note

  • what about ''The Mirror" when he starts singing the first note is pretty low

  • 0:38 lol

  • james labrie

    roy kahn

    geoff tate

    jon anderson

    steve hogarth

    hans from blind guardian

    and michael from circus maximus

    (favs in no particular order)

  • @chromakey84 Yeah men , circus maximus , dream theater and kamelot , Greatt the best fuckin bands !

  • i have always loved his low register vocals on "voices". Gave me the goose bumps every time ;)

  • 1:00 lowest, i think

  • I love winter rose but I say Asylum city would be a beter song choice

  • The amazing thing is, he sings a G#2 in Octavarium and just some seconds after a G5, his highest note in a Dream Theater studio recording.

  • i believe the low part of home is actually mike portnoy

  • @thecolombianator nah its definitely James :)

  • @thecolombianator It's James for sure.

  • LaBrie = The God of voice.

  • @Kazept9

God of Voice, or the Voice of God? xD

  • @haiguiz

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if he could be both.

  • Had a listen to In Too Deep earlier, I'm thinking he reaches C#2(!) at one point!

  • @StageHolder Can you please tell me at what point (what lyrics)? XD, I'd like to hear that and know what I'm actually listening to.

  • LaBrie can sing beautiful and deep low notes as he can sing powerful and clean high notes.

But he hasn't a very low register, the lowest notes there are in The Answer Lies Within and Octavarium, and I can reach them well.

  • Any chance the lower backing vocal on "Honor Thy Father" on the "don't cross the crooked step" spoken bit is LaBrie?

Actually, nah, that's probably Portnoy...the man probably has a pretty impressive range himself when it comes down to it! Kinda like Queen's Brian May...despite being guitarist and only a secondary vocalist, I read today that he actually has displayed range from F2-E5!

  • @Thetarantinomaniac i dont know if im right but on wikipedia it says its a conversation of a film i cant remember what though

  • No, I think that's the bit that comes after it during the instrumental section, where you hear the overdub of some voice starting by saying "this is a regret".

  • is the guy really a "true" tenor? he can go fucking low, I can't even hit those G's properly

  • what about the in presence of enemies pt.2, the heavy part?? there are very low note there too.

  • listen to smashed - james labrie..he's really on low notes there

  • "Smashed" is a great song, but where are the low notes in it?

  • there's another in "in the name of god" like a scream...

  • How does he make the windows error noise at 0:39? It's pretty impressive vocal work.

  • lol! nice

  • @elements806 XD good one

  • @elements806 Yeeeeears of practice.

  • "Burning my Soul" Live in Mexico city - a sung brief slide down to E2, his lowest sung note

  • Any idea how low LaBrie gets on the spoken parts of "As I Am" ("takin' in the view from the outside, livin' like the underdog...")? He gets some support from Mike Portnoy there, but it might be of some significance as far as low notes go.

  • Fatal Tragedy hit Bb2 I just found.

  • James hits D2 in solo song In Too Deep!

  • I just listened to that, and it sounds very much like a vocal fry to me. He makes it clear there that he can go lower than G2, though.

  • Though it's now dated six months, I'll have to ask you to disregard my previous comment about that being fry. Definitely sounds like there's some towards the very end, but I think the majority of it is full voice, but clearly his bottom limit as well.

By the way, how about "Finally Free"? Sounds like that one may have some low notes at the beginning.

  • james is the best singer for dt, not only is his high pitch voice unique but he is so devoted, i dunno if u guys notice how much he gets into character every time his sings live, and even on recorded albums you can feel the lyrics.

  • Wonderful stuff right here.

  • he has a unique pitch. I know a lot of people hate is singing, but it does qive DT a uniqueness to it. Most high pitch singers usually end up sound like dio or dickinson.

  • I wish his lower register was a bit less breathy. It would make it a lot better, though it's already quite good.

  • i kind of like the breathiness, but it would be nice to hear him push the low end. I think he'd bottom out around C#2/D2.

  • I think it's on purpose. After all, it's significantly less breathy in Lie and the end of Octavarium. The thing is, a sort of breathy, soft voice often fits slower, more ballad-style songs or sections, which is generally when he sings low. So I'm sure he can sing low without sounding breathy, he just finds it appropriate for the song/section.

  • Another point: what about some of the low notes in "Repentance"? I seem to recall him going at least down to B2 on that one. Also, if it's him singing the "you're saved" line, whatever note that is, I would think that's his lowest.

  • I'm pretty certain it's Mike singing "you're saved"

  • Underrated vocalist

  • Awesome! Thank you so much for doing this!

  • yes he has a nice low register, a bit breathy but still nice. this clip covered all his known lows I think, very good!

  • Excellent!
