  • You mean I can't make the excuse that my hands are not as large as Jacos anymore ?

  • Wilkenfeld of course.

    stupid mistake

  • of course Tal Wilkenson is marvelous.

    and so is Jaco

But why is everyone forgetting Victor Wooten??

  • Mi piace.

  • what are you doing now , im your fan , but i see the same ,since 2010 , and its great for a while , and whats next , yours solos are full of talent , in the 2010 and 2012 ? im waiting for the best of you

  • how about a video? its youtube not phototube

  • @carlmic7 pics are great... it is, after all, HIS (or her) tube... if they want to post pics ... GREAT. At least I`ve finally found out what that hollow in the top of the bass body is for.... and all these years I`ve been resting my ARM in it.... silly me !!!!

  • comments suck here so I'll go over to the other "table for one"

  • I've been playing music since I was 11, I'm now 63 and still playing. Believe me, Tal is one

of the best bass players I've EVER heard. Her timing, tone and technique are superb. Yes,

I love Jaco's playing too but I'd favorably compare Tal to him anytime. If Jaco were still with

us I believe he would be suitably impressed as well. Just ask yourself, why has she been accepted into the top ranks of music at such an early time in her career?

  • @stebly7 All true but remember Jaco was an innovator who influenced a huge number of players that followed (including Tal it seems). There have been many Jaco Followers who have equaled or even surpassed Jaco but none of them, Tal included, have come close to his innovation and influence in the history of the Bass guitar. In the History of Bass Guitar there are 2 giants, Jaco and James Jamerson. (I'll give a nod to Tim Bogert and John Entwistle as well).

  • @tbcass Your right, Jaco was and always will be the greatest bassist I've ever seen. I didn't ever state Tal was better, above or even equal. But she is very, very good. I've seen John E.,Tim B. and many other greats and no she's not above them but she sure can stand beside many of them. She does stuff with J.Beck and others that gives me goosebumps. But, agreed there likely won't be another Jaco just like there won't be another Jimi H. However, I still think Jaco would have liked Tal.

  • @stebly7 Good Reply. I've played Bass guitar my self for some time myself and I'm even older than you!. I'm 66.

  • @tbcass Thanks, I must tell you I'm a guitarist not a bassist but nevertheless, having played since 1959, I've really learned to appreciate the bass as an inseparable, vital ensemble piece that gives me huge pleasure to hear when played by a competent bassist. I recall Tim Bogert before Beck, Bogert and Appice, wowing the audience and myself way back in the late 60's. That's when I began to realize that the bass was not just a backing piece, but a beautiful standalone instrument.

  • @tbcass My first jazz album that tore my head off : Weather Report, "Mr.Gone" .

I always hear Jaco's beautiful sliding and slurring as well as the percussive patterns

that I'd never been aware of until that album brought jazz to me. Yeahhhh !!!

  • @stebly7 Today Tal, while an excellent player, does not stand above the dozens of outstanding bassists that stand on Jaco's and Jamerson's shoulders today.

  • This was such a freakin' monster band. Carlock on the drums and Tai on bass. Holy shit.

I think she's great. Phrasing, style, sound she's getting, timing. Its all there and says star star star.

  • As I said, Jeff Beck compares her to Jaco. I personally thought Jaco was brilliant. Nobody is Jimi, but then Jeff can do things Jimi couldn't. By your comment I'm guessing you think Jimi superior to Beck. I guess what I don't understand is why people on youtube who don't have a sliver of the talent of those they critique, decide one is "better" than another, or make decisions about who may be getting more credit than they, in the opinion of the less gifted youtube critic, deserve.

  • @shelly1fan, I hear you. Better, best etc. really don't work when describing any creative process. It's all opinion based on emotional or visceral feelings and interpretations that are not rooted in any material "facts" or "truths". It's like comparing Dali and Picasso, calling either one better or best is meaningless. We like what we like

for a myriad of reasons and the most that can be said is that this artist does it for me and then just enjoy.

  • @shelly1fan

in my opinion jimi was just getting started when he died.

  • @shelly1fan I hear some similarities to Jaco. Also remember how you she is. And probably one of the more prominent female bassists. Definiely the hottest.

  • @shellyfan1 cont. We all like who we like. If you think that Tal is great ,then so be it. although,I wasn't then and I am not now 'slamming' her. sometimes we like who we like and when someone comes along with a different opinion,we take offense.Don't take it so personal.

  • Tal Wakenfield is a good bass player, although I think a lot of her attention is because she's female. She's definelly no Rrhonda Smith by a long shot.

  • @sosmooth7 Exactly, and she's young.. I think she is getting a little bit too much attention online, she is good, but it's overblown.

  • @sosmooth7 Jeff Beck compares her to Jaco Pastorius but I'm sure all of you critics here know more than he....... Probably don't even know who Jaco is. The beauty of youtube is we have easy access to brilliant artists. The curse is reading blasphemous comments from the unscrubbed who not only don't have the insight to realize what they're hearing as a miracle gift of talent, but the audacity to reveal their ignorance of the same for us all to read.

  • @shelly1fan First of all,Jeff Beck is no Jimi Hendrix, second of all I DO know who Jaco Pastorious Is (having met him and talked to him in Tokyo, Japan.Basically,Tal Wakenfield is a female bass player in a group of many. Is she dead and shoulders above the crowd? NO!! Is she talented? Yes!! Is she some kind of bass hero? NO!! Yes,I also had a chance to meet and hear her play, and as I've said yes she is talented. I didn't think she was anything special then nor now.

  • I have played bass for 50 years and she is one of the best at such a young age, GO Girl!!!

  • awsome bass. what can you say. lush... ;-D

  • 0:15 I didn't know Robert Plant played the bass

  • Very cool!!

  • Very well.. I love

  • Great band, wonderful composition.

The drummer is absolutely right on.

7:33 I didn't know Stevie Nicks played bass.
