What I really like about this one is how it rejects the common misconception that all feminists hate men. It even makes a point of it, where shes rejecting the stereotypical feminist banter("pussies unite!").
It's nice that men are depicted somewhat heroically here, since from my perception the rest of the show vilifies them. It notes that not all of us are assholes... although I did think it was funny how everyone laughed at "..a good experience with a man."
Wow, I had always heard about these monologues, and now that I've watched a few, I realize they're pretty boring. What would happen if men did this kind of thing? Penises unite against our oppressors! Bullshit. women aren't dominated anymore. They have way more rights than any white man.
Penises do not have opressors. Men are allowed to with them as they will and aren't judged badly for it.Women do the exact same thing and get labelled for it eg.'sluts' or 'whores'.Good old double standards!Rather then automatically getting dismissive about what they are saying (in monologue)try and understand they are not attacking men. Just saying what it's like being a woman trying to come to terms with her sexuality. It's not easy when the whole world is putting limitations on you!
I might be reading too much into this, but I heard laughter after the narrator announced that the next monologue was about having a "good experience with a man", as if that were supposed to be an exception to the rule of men as oppressors. But what bothered me most was that fact that Bob, who was basically a non-descript, mild mannered nert who stares at vaginas, was the best they could come up with for a supportive male character. It's as if that was the best you could hope for in a man.
yeah that sarcasm's there on purpose because Eve Ensler, despite all the horrid stereotypes feminists and human rights workers are trying to fight, is still spewing man-hating conservatism. Luckily, this production, like our production, tries not to punch that line.
No, it is revolting, offensive and incredibly objectifying to women. To equate women with their sexual organ is sick. When women participate in their own degradation there is something seriously wrong with our culture.
its not equating women with their sexual organ per se- it's not porn- it's about taking back what has been perverted. I'm a woman I have a vagina- and I'm not ashamed anymore. What are you so afraid of?
Actually, if you paid attention, it's about women feeling confident in themselves and teaching them that it's nothing to be embarassed about. It's about being proud to be a woman. How is this degrading in any way?
I am so much like Bob but my wife doesn't appreciate it and think that its wierd. It makes her very uncomfortable.

The most beautiful thing about this play is that I haven't heard one person yet who didn't feel strongly about it.
And if it can make you think, make you have an opinion... it's done what it was written to do.

Any man who thinks HE is everything to women,
has got it wrong.
Listen to your girlfriend/wife/whatever, because they are in control.
Don"t believe me ? Then why are you chasing after pussy ?
Love your woman.

And that's why men's salary in almost every occupation is higher than women's? Right. We aren't dominated.

I bet you didn't like "Borat" either.

Borat was alright. I think Sasha Baron Cohen's Ali G stuff is funnier, though. I really don't see what the two have to do with eachother at all.

they call it EMPOWERMENT lol ! i agree its totally revolting and twisted and no damn good for anybody

You are clearly missing the point. This is in no way a part of the degradation.
