@JakobDailes It's in the video. Tutmoses reigned from 1479-1425BC. The Israelites were building a city named after Ramesses. Ramesse didn't come to power until 1275BC so for the Pharaoh to have been Tutmoses at the time of the exodus then Tutmoses would have to be building a city named after a man that wouldn't be born for a couple of hundred years. It'd be like dating the people that built Hoover dam to Washington's presidency.

Which leaves us with the possibilities of Oramuses or Aramesis.

Exodus 1:11 "So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labour, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh." You note the phrase "store city" Ramesses II aka the great, used to fight the Hitties in what is now Israel read up on the battle of kadesh. Ramesses the city is was the supply base for those wars.

Also, Ramses (or Ramesses) means "sun born" so it's possible it was a city long lost to time that was supposed to be a tribute to the Sun (they had a lot of cities like that, after all).
@JakobDailes We know when Egyptian cities were built and what they were called; there's only one with a name like Ramesses and that's Ramesses and we know who built it: Ramesses II and we know when. Even the cities that are lost we know the names off, Egyptian rulers and other historical sources mention them. Pithom is an example of this: we know when and who built it, but we don't know where.

@JakobDailes I see your point. It is a pity that Moses doesn't appear in Ancient Egyptian texts. Hieroglyphs are less "interpretable" than Hebrew or Arab. Only part of the characters actually represent only a sound. Most of those are accompanied by denominators, hieroglyphs that aren't part of the word itself, but of its meaning. Many hieroglyphs (or combinations) have a specific meaning: mss as in "son" could be written one way, while mss with another meaning could have a different "spelling".

@JakobDailes Another reason it can't have been during the reign of Thutmoses is the fact that the local Egyptian garrison in Caanan probably wouldn't have been too welcoming to a bunch of runaway slaves and since Hittite records clearly mention the Egyptian army sitting on their border until after about 1250BC the idea that the Exodus could happen before then is a non-starter. Hittite letters and records talk about what looks like the Trojan war but they don't mention any Israelites.

This documentary really is BS. It says that Ramesses II is the "traditional" pharaoh of the Exodus, but there is NOTHING in the bible to indicate he was the pharaoh. The city "Ramesses" is mentioned once, but that city was occupied well into the time of monarchic Israel. It omits the fact that Ramses II put his name EVERYWHERE (even on monuments he didn't build) and that there were 11 different pharaohs named Ramesses. And it never even mentions the Hyksos.

@JakobDailes It's in the video. Tutmoses reigned from 1479-1425BC. The Israelites were building a city named after Ramesses. Ramesse didn't come to power until 1275BC so for the Pharaoh to have been Tutmoses at the time of the exodus then Tutmoses would have to be building a city named after a man that wouldn't be born for a couple of hundred years. It'd be like dating the people that built Hoover dam to Washington's presidency.

Anyway, the Bible doesn't even say the town was Ramesses, it says it was called Ramss (if you translate it directly). So for all we know it could be Ramisis or Ramsus, since the vowels after m are left out. It's even possible that vowels were left out that were before the R. Which leaves us with the possibilities of Oramuses or Aramesis.

You note the phrase "store city" Ramesses II aka the great, used to fight the Hitties in what is now Israel read up on the battle of kadesh. Ramesses the city is was the supply base for those wars.

Even the cities that are lost we know the names off, Egyptian rulers and other historical sources mention them. Pithom is an example of this: we know when and who built it, but we don't know where.

@JakobDailes I see your point. It is a pity that Moses doesn't appear in Ancient Egyptian texts. Hieroglyphs are less "interpretable" than Hebrew or Arab. Only part of the characters actually represent only a sound. Most of those are accompanied by denominators, hieroglyphs that aren't part of the word itself, but of its meaning. Many hieroglyphs (or combinations) have a specific meaning: mss as in "son" could be written one way, while mss with another meaning could have a different "spelling".

@JakobDailes Another reason it can't have been during the reign of Thutmoses is the fact that the local Egyptian garrison in Caanan probably wouldn't have been too welcoming to a bunch of runaway slaves and since Hittite records clearly mention the Egyptian army sitting on their border until after about 1250BC the idea that the Exodus could happen before then is a non-starter. Hittite letters and records talk about what looks like the Trojan war but they don't mention any Israelites.

This documentary really is BS. It says that Ramesses II is the "traditional" pharaoh of the Exodus, but there is NOTHING in the bible to indicate he was the pharaoh. The city "Ramesses" is mentioned once, but that city was occupied well into the time of monarchic Israel. It omits the fact that Ramses II put his name EVERYWHERE (even on monuments he didn't build) and that there were 11 different pharaohs named Ramesses. And it never even mentions the Hyksos.

They controlled the Nile delta during the Second Intermediate Period of Egyptian history. They were Semites, their capital was Avaris on the eastern edge of the Nile delta (right in the middle of where "Goshen" supposedly was) and they worshiped a god named "Seth". They were FORCED out of Egypt; they weren't slaves. That's the Exodus.
