to be fair in any comparison you need to test 10 of each to get an accurate rating. Thru the amp the Gibson had a waaaaay better sound than the BC and this is coming from a guy with a BcR platinum warlock. Although the rest of your comparisons due make a valid point.
The problems with the Explorer can be fixed fairly easy. Straighten out the neck, level the frets, crown and polish. Since it's an "84" the frets probably have been dressed and may not have been done properly. I have a "84" Gibson flying V (looks like Randy Rhoads model, except I have pin stripes instead of polka dots) and it plays great. Just my opinion.
in my humble opinion i fell that Bc rich guitars are one trick ponies albiet they are very good at playing thrash or any metal sub genre because that is what they are set up to primarily do, gibson's on the other hand are full of different tricks and can be played in a multitude of genres, we all know jamee hetfield and his gibson explorer but what about the edge and his explorer playing rock, or whatever they play

@element271 most of their cheap guitars aerent so great but thats usually to be expected. however alot of their guitars from the 300s up can be really good. but of course no guitar company is perfect

at my local guitar shop theres a BC Rich warlock that comes with amp for $600 and there's a epipphone explorer Gothic for $670 what should I get? my style is metal and I like as much tone as I can get. but Im not in a big rush to get it so I want to get an opinion.Thanks
i bought an explorer about 6 months ago brand new at guitar center but it had zero problems. perfect setup,no fret buzz or fret out palys like a dream
I have also owned both of these guitars (the KK Warlock and the Gibson Explorer) and I can honestly say that straight from the factory, the Explorer sounded better, but had to be completely reset by a tech. The 490R & the 498T are killer p/u's. Once I put a set of Seymour Duncans (JB bridge and jazz neck) and beefed up all the hardware, the Warlock really came into it's own. I sold the Explorer, but still own the Warlock. I'll NEVER sell it.

i own both and play them regular, must say i preffer my gibbys. but define metal, metal is a wide and varied sound, active pups arent everything neither is a floyd. in fact did tony iommi not play an sg or am i mistaken.
One tip for all of u guys that have been scared out of buying a gibson or a BC.Rich by this comparasion: You should always check the guitar you are about to buy for problems like fret buzz and such. You cant judge a guitar by reviews only you need to have played it before you can judge. Some guitars come out of the factory better than others so make sure you get a good one. Thats also the reason why you shouldn't buy your guitar online.
Good comparisons and stats. I'm a Gibson fan & player, but there's a lot to be considered in choosing your personal favorites/best .... The different woods used will make some guitars brighter/clearer & some warmer (by design). Same goes for the width of the body & type of wood used on the neck and on the fingerboard too. What you need to get from your guitar, tone wise & relative to the style of music you play also matters. Zakk Wylde & Jon Sykes put out some heavy stuff with Les Pauls though.
Gibsons are NOT metal guitars, they may have EMGs in them but that doesnt mean they're metal guitars, if you put a hemi in a toyota it does not make it a muscle car, same rule applies. Aside from pickups, the necks are too thick. LucariosAxe is right, you could fit a small child in them. Gibsons are great for classic rock and some blues, but you will never make it a metal guitar

Because of these video's i'd steer way clear of Gibson's metal guitars. Hell, i'd have stayed away from them anyway because who buys a fucking Gibson with EMG's anyway?! Does anyone know about the Standard, non-limited addition Gibson explorer range? I personally really want an explorer (Or explorer shaped) guitar pretty soon and I'd love some advice.
The thing is that these two guitars have the unique character of sound, each. And probably gibson is more unique, while bc rich is just "one of heavy metal guitars". The factory problems are very important, but still the sound gets it all, imho.
The reason that your Explorer buzzes around the middle of the neck is because you haven't adjusted your truss-rod properly. It's an easy fix. A lot of guitars have this problem. It's because the wood gives when it is being transported all over the country/world :)
Gibson has been made obselete by brands like Washburn who can make Les Paul alternatives that are just as good for a great deal less money, while their metal instruments have too many rivals with better qualities, like Schecter (the Schecter Blackjack ATX costs less than the 1984 reissue but uses the far superior SD Blackouts).
guys i gotta dilemma, i'm gonna buy a new axe and i got two options, a b.c. rich ironbird standard or an epiphone 67 flying-v. the flying-v is 200 more and the b.c. rich has active pickups and a licensed floyd rose...
@movarshaq I'd say to stay away from anything with a licensed floyd rose. If you REALLY want a tremolo then get something with an original floyd or a Kahler. I believe Dmometalguitar has a video on licensed floyds and how much of a headache they are. Personally I think that the simplier the guitar is the better and go for a fixed bridge every time.

I have one, there made up like 2-3 pieces of wood glued together, thats what i was told at my local music store when I asked him why my guitar has less sustain and how can i look for a guitar with sustain, and that was his answer. I now have a thousand dollar Schecter BlackJack ATX

@CoolBreezeClub If you stick to the pro series,nj series, and the USA made bc rich's you will most likely be getting a good guitar. Stay away from anything from bc rich that is bolt-on or under 500$, they usually suck balls. I have an asm pro with a seymour duncan blackout in the bridge and an emg single coil in the neck and the guitar SLAYS. It is literally my favorite sounding guitar I own and I have owned guitars that cost 2grand. The action on the guitar is also awesome with no buzz!

I have an Ibanez Rg guitar and in "Instructions Manual" it says that action should be 1.7mm/2.3mm (14fret). This is even lower than on your Bc rich guitar and you were saying that this action is already very low... pleas explain me more :)

i have a bc rich mocking bird from a pawn shop. i have played a gibson before, and i would prefer a bc rich. they are cheap and i personally like the sound better. a gibson is much better quality but there extremely expensive and don't look nearly as cool.

I have also owned both of these guitars (the KK Warlock and the Gibson Explorer) and I can honestly say that straight from the factory, the Explorer sounded better, but had to be completely reset by a tech. The 490R & the 498T are killer p/u's. Once I put a set of Seymour Duncans (JB bridge and jazz neck) and beefed up all the hardware, the Warlock really came into it's own. I sold the Explorer, but still own the Warlock. I'll NEVER sell it.

One tip for all of u guys that have been scared out of buying a gibson or a BC.Rich by this comparasion: You should always check the guitar you are about to buy for problems like fret buzz and such. You cant judge a guitar by reviews only you need to have played it before you can judge. Some guitars come out of the factory better than others so make sure you get a good one. Thats also the reason why you shouldn't buy your guitar online.

Good comparisons and stats. I'm a Gibson fan & player, but there's a lot to be considered in choosing your personal favorites/best .... The different woods used will make some guitars brighter/clearer & some warmer (by design). Same goes for the width of the body & type of wood used on the neck and on the fingerboard too. What you need to get from your guitar, tone wise & relative to the style of music you play also matters. Zakk Wylde & Jon Sykes put out some heavy stuff with Les Pauls though.

Gibsons are NOT metal guitars, they may have EMGs in them but that doesnt mean they're metal guitars, if you put a hemi in a toyota it does not make it a muscle car, same rule applies. Aside from pickups, the necks are too thick. LucariosAxe is right, you could fit a small child in them. Gibsons are great for classic rock and some blues, but you will never make it a metal guitar

The thing is that these two guitars have the unique character of sound, each. And probably gibson is more unique, while bc rich is just "one of heavy metal guitars". The factory problems are very important, but still the sound gets it all, imho.

The reason that your Explorer buzzes around the middle of the neck is because you haven't adjusted your truss-rod properly. It's an easy fix. A lot of guitars have this problem. It's because the wood gives when it is being transported all over the country/world :)

Gibson has been made obselete by brands like Washburn who can make Les Paul alternatives that are just as good for a great deal less money, while their metal instruments have too many rivals with better qualities, like Schecter (the Schecter Blackjack ATX costs less than the 1984 reissue but uses the far superior SD Blackouts).

@movarshaq I'd say to stay away from anything with a licensed floyd rose. If you REALLY want a tremolo then get something with an original floyd or a Kahler. I believe Dmometalguitar has a video on licensed floyds and how much of a headache they are. Personally I think that the simplier the guitar is the better and go for a fixed bridge every time.

The B.C. Rich Kerry King Beast V is one hell of a guitar. Its as versatile as a Gibson. Some think that B.C. Rich guitars are cheaper so they won't sound well. But its on the contrary. I have one, there made up like 2-3 pieces of wood glued together, thats what i was told at my local music store when I asked him why my guitar has less sustain and how can i look for a guitar with sustain, and that was his answer. I have never played a bc rich over $600 that wasn't amazing. as a matter of fact I got an asm pro on ebay for $500 and I would rather play it than any guitar in Gibson's lineup. @CoolBreezeClub If you stick to the pro series,nj series, and the USA made bc rich's you will most likely be getting a good guitar. Stay away from anything from bc rich that is bolt-on or under 500$, they usually suck balls. I have an asm pro with a seymour duncan blackout in the bridge and an emg single coil in the neck and the guitar SLAYS. It is literally my favorite sounding guitar I own and I have owned guitars that cost 2grand. The action on the guitar is also awesome with no buzz!

I am somehow confused now because of action. At 7:20 in video you said that on BC Rich you have action 2mm/3.5mm. On which fret?
I have an Ibanez Rg guitar and in "Instructions Manual" it says that action should be 1.7mm/2.3mm (14fret). This is even lower than on your Bc rich guitar and you were saying that this action is already very low... pleas explain me more :)

i have a bc rich mocking bird from a pawn shop. i have played a gibson before, and i would prefer a bc rich. they are cheap and i personally like the sound better. a gibson is much better quality but there extremely expensive and don't look nearly as cool.
