  • this can only mean 1 thing......METAL TERMITES IN UR ENGINE!

  • Been there, done that. The Vortec is a POS. Shitty design from the get go. 8 manifold bolts on a 45 degree bias and a plastic gasket??? And the "spider" injector is a massive joke. I don't blame the engineers, they know better. The bean counters get the blame IMO.

  • Vortec for ya!!

  • looks like a typical GM motor to me

  • GM Quality.

  • soo you flooded the Motor with water??? Not a good idea!! now it is in need of Being Rebuilt

  • @s07082811 he just filled the coolant system with water. if the water he was was poring into the cylinders then coolant would have already flooded the engine. you would know it if coolant was in the engine. he did nothing wrong.

  • @117nathanmyers umm the intake is a port to the cylinders it leaked form the intake and if a valve was open Yes it would Flood the motor im not stupid i know what im talking about

  • Nothing a couple cases of stop leak can't fix.

  • Gm fell through hmmm i wonder why cause they build shitty CARS

  • @TopNotchMachinima They haven't been at it long enough to make the same mistake more than 20 times.

  • ummmm... i think u have an issue there you might want to address lol thats funny what was the customer complaint?? the car wont keep fluid??? or something along the lines of that??

  • Thats a chevy alright

  • Lmaoo its coming out like a fountain

  • i dont see a problem

  • is this a wet type or style of intake manifold?

  • Wow I ran into a similar brake job and the rotor was broken up in two thin rings. On a benz. Good thing it had the ability to just work of the other three. Lol

  • two words DUCT TAPE :D lol jk

  • JB weld that shit

  • I have a coolant leak somewhere on top of the engine of my 4.3L 93 Astro van that I just cannot pinpoint. coolant pools at the top of the intake and comes from somewhere on the right side of the engine. Ive taken off the dog house and tried to look from behind still cant see it. the coolant pooling on the intake leads me to believe it is the intake gasket. Its a big leak.

  • IN THIS VIDEO THE LEAK IS LEAKING THROUGH THE METAL INTAKE MANIFOLD THAT SIT ON TOP OF THE ENGINE ITSELF... IT IS NOT LEAKING THROUGH THE PLASTIC MANIFOLD AT ALL. THE PLASTIC MANIFOLD IS WERE ALL THE AIR IS STORE WHEN THE ENGINE RUN AND THERE ARE NO COOLANT HOLES UP THERE. THE METAL INTAKE MANIFOLD HAVE COOLANT HOLES.

  • DAMN!

  • duct tape!!

  • Just a question... but aren't those bolts on the passenger fender from the intake? :)

  • Those 4.3L seem to be a very problematic motor, two of my friend's have S10s, one a 1999 the other a 2000 and the engine problems with them seem endless... nothing against Chev's though, i had a cavalier and it was the most reliable car i've ever owned, i now have a sunfire i DD and a cavalier i run dirt track with and both work great... My jeep, 4.0L, motor works awesome, but everything else self destructs about every 6 months lol

  • @norcobigfootrider The 4.3 in and of itself is an excellent engine... It is just handicapped by idiot engineers who tried to save GM money with a crappy FI system and a so-called "extended-life" coolant that eats intake gaskets if not changed on the same recommended schedule as ethylene glycol. A 4.3 V6 with a good injection system (MPFI/SFI, NOT CPI!) and ethylene glycol, NOT Death-Cool, will last a long time and have plenty of power... I've seen them wax 5.0 Fords with carbs and headers...

  • @norcobigfootrider I owned a 99 s10 that I bought used with 164k miles on it, after only 2k more, the engine completely shit the bed and had to be relpaced. Other than that, I had transmission lag, and the fucker had to be jumpstarted just about every day in the winter, at least once a week in the summer. s10=WORST TRUCK EVER. I bought my father's 02 F-150 about a year ago when he traded up with 74k miles. Now has over 82k on it, runs totally flawless, never had a single major issue.

  • @ANTIEMO571

you do realize your camparing a vehical with waaaay over 100k to a vehical under 100k...

  • Damn

  • duct tape works fine for that ! LOL

  • Thats not as bad as my brothers cavalier, that would piss out everything in the radiator in about 10 seconds, then flood and kill-He overheated it REALLY badly, and killed the head gasket

  • Coolant leak on a GM vehicle. What. A. Surprise.

  • @bddc201 ya but better than ford tranny problems

  • @wtl1964 that is so true. ford don't have check balls and are harder to rebuild.

  • @bddc201

Thats an everyday casualty for me. Thats why I sold mine for 2 bucks

  • that is the worst i've ever seen! I've been working for GM as a tech for 15 years. never saw one pour out like that

  • Does that car runs on water looks like is peeing it out lol!!!!!!

  • its the flux capacitor

  • i think its leaking

  • there is nothing wrong with the vortex 's when you PMI your motor which includes

changing your oil, and changing your coolant every 2yrs unless you want to trust everything you read and leave it in 5 yrs so it will gel up and block flow holes and

replace with new bolts never reuse. average intake gasket last five years

  • well there's your problem

  • nuthin some duck tape and jb weld couldnt fix

  • gm 3.1 and 3.4's blow intake gaskets all the time!

  • nothing duck tape cant fix lol

  • OMG! That is horrible. I've seen these intakes leaking before, (including my own) but nothing ever like this.

  • are you serious? ive had nothing but amazing performance out of my 4.3L v6 in my 97 blazer. its got just under 170k miles and runs like a champ! i know blazers were known for every problem you can think of, ball joints, trannies, etc, but ive had nothing but amazing luck with 4.3L's in my life... hmmm. please respond.

  • it almost looked like it was a cracked head gasket

  • ahh the waterfall mod..... i love that one

  • That's normal. it's just condensation from the a/c system lol.

  • That's how Chevy's cool their electric cooling fans!

  • i damn well hope it doesn't happen to my 4.3 Silverado its a 2007 classic model

  • I replaced my 4.3 intake gasket a couple weeks ago, my leak came out the back of my motor so it was hard to find. Glad it went up and out rather than down and in! Now I have a throttle hesitation problem right at the beginning. It's bad when cold but gets better when warmed up, something to do with the choke maybe? Ever have this problem?

  • @wiggy7373 If it is fuel injected, it doesn't have a choke. Is the check engine light on? If so, we need the codes from the PCM to help diag the problem. If you pulled the distributor, the timing or firing order may be incorrect. There could be a vacuum leak or an unmetered air leak between the mass air flow meter & throttle body. There may be a fuel leak that allows air to enter the fuel system when the engine is off. This would cause the vehicle to run poorly until the air is out.

  • @roadragecustoms where did you get the thing you were using to put coolant into the radiator? looks as if it comes with its own rad cap

  • @79dodge4ever Yes, the rad cap adapters came with the funnel. I got mine from Matco Tools. They are available from most tool trucks & some auto parts stores. It's called a spill free funnel. It comes with multiple adapters for many applications. I love it.

  • @roadragecustoms spot on finally someone on yt who kows what they are talking about i got a good one for you my truck 99 s-10 4.3 x vin starts and runs great untill warm then acts like its starved for fuel and pops and back fires if you floor it and just stalls at half throttle barley can catch speed with little to no throttle so shut er down for 2 seconds restart and runs great for another 5-10 min continuously

  • @roadragecustoms so i found a vacuume leak the line going to drivers side fender il plugged and the rest is missing? so i guess this goes to evap can?can this be it? also yesterday my girly friend got home from work and sais the truck makes a funny noise? she waas right a swishing sound coming from behind dash almost like heater is clogging and about to throw up????

  • @wiggy7373 there is a gasket under the upper intake and if it fails and or is replaced or over torque it will leake till it heat up and then the gasket will seal by expanding .also you have to set the timing .which includes setting the timing on the pcm not the motor which must be put on a scanner rev up around 1500 rpm so the distributor gears mesh and turn the dist +/- left or right till it hit zero done!!! . ready for the drag strip.

  • @wiggy7373 it doesnt have a choke if it's fuel injection

  • @wiggy7373 M.A.F Sensor clean your air filter and sensor

  • gee when i started to work for my shop teacher in college, thats pretty much ALL i was doing!!! nothing but 4.3 vortec coolant leaks from the head gaskets. i had to remove all the accessories and clean the heads and make sure the heads werent warped, then put it all back together... the worst part was, i didnt get paid for all that. dum chevys. impalas, blazer, silverado, cutlass. ect...

  • @adioo890 I'm surprised you saw many head gasket leaks on these. I've done more intake gaskets than head gaskets on them.

  • @roadragecustoms correction, your right, they were intake gaskets. but i still had to check if they were warped and replace the head gaskets.

  • @adioo890 You mean you replaced the intake gaskets between the intake & head, right? Not the head gaskets between the cylinder head & the engine block.

  • @roadragecustoms You busted him twice

  • My 1998 5.7 did the same thing new gaskets go with the metal ones more money no more leaky plastic ones junk

  • wow thats huge

  • chevy...

  • theres your problem :))

  • I had the exact same problem w my 98 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec. Dex cool doesn't help any neither

  • I lived in Dayton for 20 years and loved every minute of it. I used to work at Park Layne Sunoco in New Carlisle and saw intakes on these motors go bad all the time but I've never seen one even close to that bad!!!!!!! Thumbs up for Dayton, got it tattooed on my back. 937 baby

  • @TrevMcDiesel What kind of a loser likes Dayton, Ohio? I was born there and got the fuck out years ago; please tell me what there is to like there.

  • @TrevMcDiesel 513 haha lol its like a ghost town up here lol

  • Thanks for sharing !!

  • Thanks for sharing !!

  • @1001erickp i would love to live in that area compared to xenia, vandalia, dayton anytime, its like mini detroit there now unfortunately. so much history going to waste in my opinion you know?

  • @1001erickp personally im doing basic and ait in fort sill oklahoma. id like to visit jackson sometime though. id like to get stationed at brag. where do you live in ohio? thats where i was born in dayton there. yeah i guess i forgot to mention the truck did have a complete brake overhaul done new master, drums, rotors, bearings, spring and pads and lines. it didnt need it but i figured with as old as it is it was worth the assurance you know? they stop the thing on a dime thats for sure!

  • @1001erickp thankyou very much sir. and im thinking im going to buy a used f150 lightning or a gmc syclone or something like that? where are you located geographically and ill consider handing it over to you when i leave if your close enough

  • @1001erickp not too worried about it, i ship out to basic training in july, it runs good enough for me to trust it will last that long and last day or so im in town i will kill it however i see fit lol. its been a good truck its just too soon its going to start costing so much money to repair i might as well buy a new one while in service with no living expenses right?

  • that motor is great the plastic design does suck but you can put over 300k on those motors np

  • i have this problem at this very moment with the coolant leak an i see green on the top of my intake manifold im hope noo actually prayin its tha intake an NOT the haed gaskets from leaking!!!!!

  • @MultiPimpin45 It would be almost impossible for a head gasket leak to end up on top of the intake. Intake gasket failures are very common on these trucks.

  • damn lol

  • i have a 99 ford f150 4.2 that has never had any leaks or anything in the coolant or motor. and its still has factory coolant that is now a goldsih brown color but still no problems ever. anyone who wants to call fords pieces of shit now can suck my balls. and the rear diff has never been serviced like the tranny. and i just recently replaced factory plugs and wires that still worked fine. cant beat a ford!

  • note how it's a chevy

  • that suuucckksss!

  • plastic period is bullshit and its only gonna get worse !!! those indian bullshit engineer people they hire, come up with the cheapest ways of doing stuff and the rich asshole CEOs agree so they can but more boats for their rich bitches, its only gonna get worse, united we stand but we havent been united since ww2 SO DIVIDED WE FAIL !!!

  • thats why chevys SUCK! pos

  • Thats a water bleeder LOL

  • had a 96 grand prix (GM) same thing with the faulty head gaskets. too bad really, this is just pathetic though. nice video regardless

  • Awesome. Thanks, man.

  • Is it cool to flush and run the green stuff? I have a 97 vortec 350, and it doesn't have this problem yet. I wanna do whatever I can to prevent it.

  • @The420ninja Here's my opinion. Many people will disagree. The problem with Dex-cool is that GM tells you to leave it in up to 150,000 miles. It gets badly contaminated in that amount of time. I run Dex-cool in my GM's that require it & flush it every 30,000 miles. The problem with the intake gaskets is that they used plastic & it doesn't hold up.

  • @roadragecustoms right! the dexcool eats up the gaskets. Was there a recall for Dexcool? My intake gaskets are leaking!

  • @TJRMultimedia No Dex-Cool recall that I ever heard of, but I believe there were some TSB's on some of the intake gaskets.

  • @roadragecustoms Im a Novice at this, what is a TSB? and also I was told that due to using Dex-Cool there is a leak in the intake manifold gasket in my 2004 Chevy Impala 3.4 engine. I recently got a tuneup, put in new EGR valve and its clogged already. I checked to see if I was leaking coolant and no coolant is leaking but my temperature guage is constanly climbing! what you think the problem is?

  • @TJRMultimedia TSB=Technical Service Bulletin. Didn't see any related to your intake-but it is a common coolant leak. Clogged EGR is probably due to carbon build-up in the EGR passages. Some shops offer BG brand EGR services (other brands may have similar product). This service includes connecting an adapter to the EGR port & spraying a cleaner through it while running. It also includes a fuel induction cleaning. The climbing temp is probably a low coolant level or air pocket in cooling system.

  • I have a 2000 blazer with the 4.3 v tec motor I already had to rebuild the top end due to a bent valve and blown gasket at the same time then my moms 98 blows a head gasket that I jest finished rebuilding yesterday the worst thing in my opinion about the job besides trying to work my why around all the wiring was getting the damn fuel rails back into the freakin spider injector can you say design flaw fucking cheap bastards.

  • Damn!!! That's really bad

  • Detroit what you expect

  • The 4.3L Vortec is very reliable, but the intake manifold gasket they used is garbage.

This has happened twice on my 96 blazer. it sort of just ruptured one hot summer day, and steam was shooting out of the side of my engine, and it looked like my engine caught fire from all the steam.

  • I have owned several S-10's with this motor. It is absolute garbage. For GM not to know about this is absurd. They just choose to not address it. "Straight" engines don't have an intake manifold straddling two banks of cylinders, and so don't have coolant running underneath the manifold. A ridiculous design.

  • dex cool, stay away from it at all costs...it doesnt do anything the green stuff wont, except eat away your intake gaskets etc.

  • How much would it cost to repair something like this??? Mine is leaking in the same area but not near as bad as this

  • @tytyjtt89 $30 - $80 for the parts if you do it yourself.

  • @tytyjtt89

I paid like $50 in parts, but it does take a day or two to get it done

  • It's like Chevrolet's new slogan: Chevy runs deep!

  • thank goodness my 99 blazer has the TBI 4.3, that thing is bulletproof. 175k miles and still going strong, no leaks, no fixes besides water pump and thermostat and a new belt.

  • when i was working at custers auto repair in wilmington nc, i bought one of those off the matco truck and my god it was a life saver! but damn dude, that bitches water just broke BIGTIME!

  • holy shit

  • thats a cool funnel whare did u get it?

  • @MrJjj55 That is a spill free funnel. I got mine from Matco, but they are available on about every tool truck.

  • I've seen so many problems with that model Vortec motor doing this, I have a 97 K1500 with the 5.0 (305) And Ive had to do an intake manifold job on it twice, Ive learned that its the aluminum intake manifold sitting on the cast iron block , expanding at different temp's and breaking the seal.

  • damn, i thought mine was bad. i was leaking about 8L of coolant driving 15 miles. lmao

  • Scotch tape that shit

  • believe it or not i had the exact same leak on the same side of the manifold and about the same amount leaking on my 350 tbi. My manifold bolt broke and the gasket went with it

  • This is one of the common problems with the composite intake gaskets. The plastic gets brittle with exposure to heat, and then slowly breaks down over time. Run into it a couple of times myself.

  • Duck tape!

  • @EagleTalons1 it's actually "duct tape"... there is a brand name duck tape, but it's duct tape.

  • @hissingfetus I ment Duck Tape as in the brand name not duct tape as in the correct pronunciation. I go with Duck Tape do to the fact that its a highly known brand name...

  • You need mighty mendit

  • @RaisedInALA No, he needs a kettle and tea bags

  • I agree with you there there is no room for plastic or cardboard in something that fluctuates in temperature, and has as many moving parts as an engine and if they had made the gaskets from aluminum in the first place the leak wouldn't have been there.

  • let me guess either some kid who figured it was just running hot, and it didn't matter, or a woman who didn't know what the gauge meant

  • @MattCHollis1988 As much as I like GM's, I'd have to blame the manufacturer more so than the driver. The driver was smart enough to stop & let me fix it.

  • @roadragecustoms GM did that to make you some money.

  • @Jeffreyrno ...and I'm not complaining!

  • @roadragecustoms lol.. me neither brother, but i'v never seen one this bad.

  • Same engine ive got in the Bravada! Fixing it as we speak!

  • definatly put the new redesigned aluminum gaskets in. get rid of the old plastic ones, cardboard on some.

  • i had a 98 with the 5.7 vortec was going home one day no trouble no gauages above normal then it all of sudden locked down pulled it home and turns out both head gaskets cracked hydralocked the engine and bent the rods but what do you expect with 345000 miles and never had any major problems

  • @CUMMINSPOWER0789 id expect it to still be running.

  • @1tonyota it still is after a fix now she is at 645000 tranny doesnt catch first anymore and shes weakhearted but stiff faithful as ever

  • @CUMMINSPOWER0789 thats better

  • @CUMMINSPOWER0789 there again you have to be happy with the chevy 350 engine. it lasted three times longer than it was suppose to. I know mine has 320000 miles and it is still running strong. that motor is so good that i actually ran mine for 2 days with no oil in it and didn't have a problem the only reason i noticed it was because it was losing horsepower, and that was the first thing i checked.

  • @MattCHollis1988 im pretty sure they are indestructible unless u blow it purposely

  • wow thats bad

  • Shittttttttttttttttttttttt thats baddddddd oh my god lol

  • yo dude your intakes leaking?

  • O.M.G

  • Lokin at this makes me feel better about my Little punk ass Leak..So I shouldnt be too Pissed...Its Just the Time it takes

  • my 96 blazer did this, i could only drive 1 mile or two before it lost all the coolant and it overheated. I've had to do it twice, with only 130k miles.

  • squeaky bitch xD

  • holy shit lol, ive seen some pretty bad leaks on the 4.3 chevys but never that bad without somone noticing lol.

  • Aftermarket has fixed GM's intake gasket problems.Fel pro has updated intake gaskets for the 4.3 and 5.7 vortec made out of metal.Dorman has done the same with the 3100 and 3400s sold as a kit with new intake bolts which GM says to replace, intake gaskets are made out of metal too.Make sure you mark the distribitor before pulling on a vortec 350,4.3 and 454.Set the distribitor with a scan tool, not a timing light.

  • i'VE GOT A PONTiac bonneville 1992 just had to replace a water pump..aLSO GOTTA HAVE REPAIR ON THIS THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH..JUST THOUGHT IT WS A HOS E OR SUMTHHING COME TO FIND OUT..WAS VERY UPSET..BUT HEY COULD OF BEEN WORSE HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT..FEEDBACK PLEASE..

  • lil tape and gum get that fix

  • how many hours does it take to change this out , what all is need to fix this

  • @bone1050 Lower intake gasket is needed. I think book time is about 5 hours.

  • Here's the deal. The original intake gaskets were all plastic. They would last for 100 k or so, then begin leaking. Typical GM Int. gaskets! The replacment gaskets are much improved with steel sealing areas. I recommend the GM replacment gaskets, as they will work just fine.

  • Dump GM and buy a Toyota I did and I will NEVER look back I wish I did that a long time ago.Toyota"s arent 100% truble free but thay have alot less problims. sorry for the bad spelling

  • yeah chevy! they didnt lie when they say its like a rock.

  • Just use a little JB Weld...

  • Everything is "The Worlds Worst" Why is that?

  • @boaterbil So you'll watch it.

  • @roadragecustoms

    it worked

and that is the worst leak Ive ever seen

  • @roadragecustoms - I don't think I've seen a coolant leak any worse then this, So the title seems fitting to me.

  • @BlazerVette the truth is that most coolant leaks in that area are internal. so most people not the car is running hot they just keep putting water or coolant in thinking that that would fix the problem

  • @boaterbil Two words - "GOVERNMENT MOTORS"

  • there know for intake plenium gaskets and heater cores and freeze plugs poppin i have a 98 gmc jimmy with a bran new fresh built motor i did myself

  • omg!!!!!!!

  • MAN! this helped me so much, driving earlier with the radiator cap loose, lost all my coolant, truck overheated, pulled over, waited a bit and put some coolant in the radiator (out of jug that I keep in the truck). When I got home steam was coming out of hood. Spewing water out of opposite side of engine but same place. Checked around the internet made some calls and was expecting the worst. Came across this and I am now 99% certain this is my problem. Thanks! '00 Blazer 4.3L

  • My 2003 Chevrolet Malibu has an intake manifold problem right now, too, thanks to the idiots at GM. This is the same problem with the Dex Cool coolant that started the class action lawsuit in California. Sadly I am too late to be a part of that suit, and sadly I may be looking at $600+ for repair to the manifold, its valves and possibly a water pump replacement.

  • SEXY

  • holy shitt.. hahaha!!! dam

  • i have the 97 4.3L the coolant leak is speratic and appears to come from the back of the engine. I cannot see the actually leak location. I am guessing that it is this type of problem and it is just hiding. I cannot find fluid up top and the water pump is dry... any thoughts..

  • @kary1982v6 The cylinder heads have coolant passages at the front & rear. The intake manifold has a passage connecting the front passages to the thermostat and blocking the rear passages. The intake manifold gasket can leak front, rear, or both. There may also be a heater hose quick connect fitting that may be leaking. It isn't uncommon for the fitting to break off in the intake during attempted removal. Top off the coolant & get a pressure tester on it. You should be able to see the leak.

  • @roadragecustoms it is not the heater hoses. I have inspected that.. I am guessing that it is the intake just somewhere that is under something. thanks for your help. I will do more looking when the weather clears up here.. thanks again!
