i may actually be the first person to realize this, but with literally no magic skill you can learn the disarm spell... cast it on everyone in pete's party and watch while they hit you with bare firsts for 30 minutes while you kill them. they didn't actually do damage to any of my characters so i didnt even need to go to turn-based mode.
i just drank potion of haste and threw disarm at the sceletons and stringy pete. that made them completely useless, and they dont pick up their nasty axes
@yellowjuju Can you pick another people's pocket? Picking lock of door in night to steal stuff? Using another race such as elf, gnome, half ogre and half orc? Can you using dominate will magic to control random person on the street? Can you kill everyone you don't like? Can you make your own weapon like guns, sword, medicine? Can you do all this in FF? Are FF good? Please answer.

@yellowjuju JRPGs are shallow boring games that are so linear it's pathetic. EVEN THE COMBAT IS SHALLOW. Arcanum is unique and story based. It's interesting to mix grenades and such and just to delve in the world... Seriously.
@MrBoobsinno Hi, yes - this games is probably the closest to Fallout 1&2 gameplay you'll ever find. So far as I can remember, some guys that worked on Fallout were also part of project Arcanum. If you love Fallout 1&2, you will not be disappointed - this has the same vast world, immersive story, great characters, the same familiar gameplay (you can choose turn-based, etc.)
backstab bonus damage bypasses damage reduction so simplest way is to just throw a stun grenade or cast stun on him and 1-2 shot him. (stun is necessary to get the full backstab damage bonus unless ofcourse you're prowling master)
It's not that they have that many hitpoints, it's rather that all of the skeletons (including Pete) have damage / fire / others resistance of 95%, which you can see when you click on them after they're dead, to remove their swords, on their attack / defense ratings. Hence which makes a certain magic spell, Weaken I believe, useful to lower their damage resistance, after which they'll be almost dropping like flies.
how do you hear about stingy pete to meet him? also where do I need to go to join the dark elves? Ive only just started playing the game for the first time.

Yes,increased charisma let you have an increased number of "permanent" followers. You can also get several temporary followers in sub quests. If you dont close these quests, the followers stick with you.

I really want to like this game, I trully do. But I just can't get into graphics as they are even worse than in Fallout 1(which graphics I like). Damnit :/ Too think I always laughed at those, who cared about graphics.
Seriously. I remember playing this game for almost 6 hours a day when I didn't have anything to do. Very unique indeed. They said the same thing about Fallout, and that turned out to be a great game. Strongest point of a game isn't the graphics, It's the mechanics and storyline. Arcanum has all of that, and more for 2 to 3 seconds. So many options in this game. RIP Free-roam RPGs, you will be missed.
yeah the Arcanum online play is weak back when I first got the game I tried it a few times and it was really glitched and a huge hassle single player is much better.
Oh yeah you can have more companions if you raise your charisma. If you raise it to 12 you can have 3 party members, but you can also train yourself to become expert at persuasion with 12 points of charisma and that training gives one more follower aswell. You can have 6 followers with 20 charisma. But really.. who the hell wants to become that charismatic as opposed to just powerfull with dex,str, and magic/tech? :)
Well...playing with extremely high charisma, inteligence, persuasion... can be much more fun because you get a bunch more options in conversations and generally you'll have more "rich" game.
Few months ago I passed the game that way (+ I was tehnologic oriented) and it was much more fun than playing through with only raw power.
I remmember playing for first time when I was using harm and bunch of suspiciously acquired Arcane weapons and armor, well the Stringy Pete was a piece of cake then...
The extra skeletons that spawn actually have better defense than stringy pete himself who is supposed to be the boss. My mage character hasnt encountered any other fight even remotely this hard. The skeletons have 90+ resistance to everything, so a fireflash did only like 3 dmg instead of the usual 40!!
After 3 times of dieing I just did stringy petes quest instead, I killed almost all the skeletons last time though, they were all down to 8%hp
i am not an rifle type so i use swords like the quality sword.Reaches 34 dmg but withhigh dexterity it goes very fast!So why etwasting money on rifles or pistols?Get melee weapons!
Yes i think you are right.But you are wasting money on bullets and in a big scale you wont kill them all from far.They will come to you and start hitting you.The best way is to train your character to hold up against enemies than training them to kill them from long distances!My point of view of course.....

I finish it 2 times, second with a full gun nuts, full techonology. I always find technology more fun to play, because its harder, and you get to build stuff. I have like 5-6 kind of guns, some i built myself. Anyway, good memories, thx for the video.
Let me say what Yahtzee said about MMO combat fighting: kick an enemy's shins, he kicks yours and you take it in turns until one of them falls over. It boils down to who started the fight with the bigger boots, and to who legs it when tits go up.
bronwyck's gun, you can find the schematics for it near some fish-submarine on the isle of despair (its a mission you get from some guy in the camp called the collector)
The first revolver you make, and the gun in.. ehm.. Damn i don't remember what the place is called.. Anyway, its electrical dmg.. Lot stronger, and faster, and it doesn't cost anything to shoot with.
Nah. Gah. I never remember what it's called :P With its speed, it is the strongest ranged weapon in this game. It's about 10 - 40/50 electric dmg, and 12 - 15 speed, and ofc regular/normal dmg.
When i was playing this, I was very active, I have done most of what you can do. I haven't found any more quests, and I have being 'master' in all kinds of stats. But i have never had the chance to play against other players :(

Arcanum is a great and long game. But I still havent heard which one is 4th companion on this video. I think there is about 20 different NPCs in game. I will try to count them.

That companion is Sebastian; you find him in the Boil after you talk to Edward Willoughsby in Tarant, and Willoughsby only shows up after you've been to Qintarra. Basically, you agree to help clean up the Boil, and Sebastian appears in the bar there, and he'll join you if you kill Maug and Pollock. He's tech-aligned, and he starts with some powerful item (I think it was Regenerative Jacket)
YES! I gree it is my favorite RPG ever! It's too bad that it was buggy on release and they never created part 2. I loved how the stpryline could go so many wys and people sleep at night and close the shops
holy crap this is such an awesome game so much friggin story the world is huge you can do wahtever u want go wherever and its so obscure no one knows about it. my one thing against arcanum was the skills, mainly magic were just a handful compared to other games where theres HUNDREDS of spells you can learn and u never know if u have all of them because theyre as numerous as diablo 2 items.

My personal favorite method to kill Pete is my cheap-ass solo'ing build -- max Dex, time magic Haste, speed potions, max melee, max backstab and Dagger of Speed.

I think that Sierra closed servers this year...
Another thing is that this game rarely works online and is not really worth the hassle around making it to work.
You'd more enjoy it in single player.

The extra skeletons that spawn actually have better defense than stringy pete himself who is supposed to be the boss. My mage character hasnt encountered any other fight even remotely this hard. The skeletons have 90+ resistance to everything, so a fireflash did only like 3 dmg instead of the usual 40!!
After 3 times of dieing I just did stringy petes quest instead, I killed almost all the skeletons last time though, they were all down to 8%hp

just use camstudio 2.0 that is a pretty good recorder, and u can record swf's with it too!

Looking glass rifle is nothing compared to most weapons, because of the speed.
Sure, great dmg, but shoots very slowly.
While the regular revolver that you can make, has a higher dps, because of the speed.

i am not an rifle type so i use swords like the quality sword.Reaches 34 dmg but withhigh dexterity it goes very fast!So why etwasting money on rifles or pistols?Get melee weapons!

Because you have to run up to the opponent. While I kill him before he can reach me.
Less money on repair, armor and weapons.
Also, change quality sword to Barbarian sword or something. Got 18 speed and is alot stronger than quality sword.
Most weapons are stronger than quality sword :P

Yes i think you are right.But you are wasting money on bullets and in a big scale you wont kill them all from far.They will come to you and start hitting you.The best way is to train your character to hold up against enemies than training them to kill them from long distances!My point of view of course.....

Stringy-Pete was suprisingly easy as a spell caster character. I just disarmed him and his buddies which made them pretty harmless :)

Wow, bring back memories, I am checking every video of this game on youtube, miss it really bad, a shame there's no sequel.
I finish it 2 times, second with a full gun nuts, full techonology. I always find technology more fun to play, because its harder, and you get to build stuff. I have like 5-6 kind of guns, some i built myself. Anyway, good memories, thx for the video.

Let me say what Yahtzee said about MMO combat fighting: kick an enemy's shins, he kicks yours and you take it in turns until one of them falls over. It boils down to who started the fight with the bigger boots, and to who legs it when tits go up.
It applies to Arcanum.

bronwyck's gun, you can find the schematics for it near some fish-submarine on the isle of despair (its a mission you get from some guy in the camp called the collector)

The first revolver you make, and the gun in.. ehm.. Damn i don't remember what the place is called.. Anyway, its electrical dmg.. Lot stronger, and faster, and it doesn't cost anything to shoot with.

Nah. Gah. I never remember what it's called :P With its speed, it is the strongest ranged weapon in this game. It's about 10 - 40/50 electric dmg, and 12 - 15 speed, and ofc regular/normal dmg.
When i was playing this, I was very active, I have done most of what you can do. I haven't found any more quests, and I have being 'master' in all kinds of stats. But i have never had the chance to play against other players :(
But i'm going to play this lovely game, and then send you the name of the gun.

Arcanum is a great and long game. But I still havent heard which one is 4th companion on this video. I think there is about 20 different NPCs in game. I will try to count them.

That companion is Sebastian; you find him in the Boil after you talk to Edward Willoughsby in Tarant, and Willoughsby only shows up after you've been to Qintarra. Basically, you agree to help clean up the Boil, and Sebastian appears in the bar there, and he'll join you if you kill Maug and Pollock. He's tech-aligned, and he starts with some powerful item (I think it was Regenerative Jacket)

I'm playing this game for the first time and I killed them all in a matter of seconds, using the Disintegrate spell (instant kill). Too easy.

YES! I gree it is my favorite RPG ever! It's too bad that it was buggy on release and they never created part 2. I loved how the stpryline could go so many wys and people sleep at night and close the shops

holy crap this is such an awesome game so much friggin story the world is huge you can do wahtever u want go wherever and its so obscure no one knows about it. my one thing against arcanum was the skills, mainly magic were just a handful compared to other games where theres HUNDREDS of spells you can learn and u never know if u have all of them because theyre as numerous as diablo 2 items.

My personal favorite method to kill Pete is my cheap-ass solo'ing build -- max Dex, time magic Haste, speed potions, max melee, max backstab and Dagger of Speed.
