A pointless person doing a pointless thing. And hey, maybe if a starving polar bear gets too close they'll kill it. I'm sure there's no carbon footprint to getting dozens of people up that far north either.

@newguy33X. Raising 2 million pounds for a good cause is pointless? Just because you will never have the publicity he does, or the capability, you don't have to slate him. Be careful, one phone call and he could have you tracked down and killed.

@mr9396 What they're actually doing is pointless, walking around in the arctic. He could have donated the money himself, why does he need to waste resources doing this, and asking others to donate? I guess my problem is charity stunts in general, or attaching some pointless activity to charity (how much money could go to the cause just from all of he and his staffers transportation, their wages, etc. to do this stunt?), as well as the environmental stuff I've mentioned.

@newguy33X. with your argument i could just as easily said, "well, life is pointless". By him doing it, it raises awareness to everyone, more money gets raised. And he also makes donations.

@mr9396 I guess it's human psychology that's annoyingly irrational. People have to be manipulated into giving to charity, have to see something "significant" coupled with it. "Buy a ticket for this draw (or these school chocolate bars), some of the money goes to charity...." and people will, but if you want to not waste everyone's time you could allow them to opt into paying a few dollars off of their paycheques or in taxes specifically for schools..and many, many people wouldn't.

@mr9396 We still have caveman brains. We are impressed by stupid things that no longer have meaning. We know what's in the arctic, we know how to survive it, and we know that Harry's not up there to do anything important, and still people ooo and awe. He's not bravely off to hunt, or look for new resources, but we're hardwired to be impressed by bravery and pseudo-bravery for those reasons. Why is "doing it for charity" so formulaic and coupled with useless things?

@mr9396 And then it's such an honour to be up there with him. Some people take a lot more than they give, and if you're automatically given tax money such that you can afford castles, you're one of them. Until they've given until they have just a normal amount of money, they haven't given much. How did royals ever get or stay in power? Force!...sometimes including murder, torture, wars not based on survival. And lies and deception, such as "God wants my family to always be in charge".

@newguy33X. look you made your point. And i agree charity is corupt because it always goes to the rich, not the people who need it. But he is doing it for a charity that helps wounded soldiers, thats gotta mean something. And these charity activities sometimes overshadow the private contributions the royals make, such as the queen made a huge contribution to the new zealand earthquake.
