@SuperSpotlightGirl She wrote the songs. So she doesn't really need any sheet music. :-) But even for songs written by other composers, you generally learn them with sheet music but then memorize it so that you can perform without the music. That's pretty much how it's done all over the world with solo recitals of this nature. When performing with an ensemble, or when accompanying another performer, pianists will then often get to use sheet music during the performance.
OMG, she is far beyond what you may call a prodigy child... she is a true genius. The way she uses elements that make the composition have the Spanish touch is sublime, and doesn't make it any less sincere. And, of course, her performance as a pianist is incredible, so elegant and emotional at the same time. I almost attended to that concert, I can't believe I couldn't make it finally... Do you have the song she played with Andrea Motis, I think it was "The Girl from Ipanema"?
@mep1990 Yes, you are right. Emily is unique and I would attend all her performances if it would be possible. As for that song you mentioned, it is not my recording but you can find it on you tube try to search text "Quincy Jones al Festival de Peralada"
@jpetee5 If I had the chance, I would attend to all her performances too, as I do with Andrea (well, not all, but I attend to all that I can, today will be my 20th concert since March where Andrea will be performing). But of course, Andr5ea is much closer geographically... Well, I hope not to miss the next chance to see Emily when she comes anywhere close. And thanks a lot for pointing out the video!
I never really know what to say or how to describe the sounds and feelings I hear while listening to Emily's songs. She has such creativity through her music, it is truly inspiring. I am anxiously waiting to hear more of her songs in the future.
@kichoterifa Usually when you perform (I try to do this to the best of my ability), you don't use sheet music. Thus being the case, Emily memorizes the music she plays. :)
@EmilyBearfan wow!! u r kidding....i thought that the first part was made by a famous composer..but to think that Emily composed something like that!!! she is the true talent.......
@egyptiancornilla No need to second guess any longer - Emily IS a famous composer now! Even after seeing her videos over and over, she never stops amazing me with her talent and growth. I'm glad I'm able to follow her career for a very long time.
I don't know how Emily stands up. With that big, giant brain and even bigger heart her poor little legs but be tired!!! :-)

@SuperSpotlightGirl It's perfectly natural! Besides, if she had the score, I can guarantee that she would have had to turn the page.

@SuperSpotlightGirl Proper performance technique, however, is to play from memory.

Amazing! Like an impressionist on the Piano. No wonder she likes to fuse Jazz and Classical. :)
