@bulldogy1 $2,300 today ya but in the eraly 1980s a top of the line lionel train set cost between $300 to $400 now that was about 30 years ago $400 for a train set was alot of money to spend and most of the kids didnt get those sets starter and middel class set some of those middel class sets were not so cheap ether
WO WO im 15 and ive been try to find the name of the train shown in 1:41 i have it its my dads who is over 55 its made in USA and has 665 and is O gauge if you know the name please tell me thank you
@goofoffman411 The "665" is DEFINITELY a Hudson. I own it too. I collect Hudsons. It is classified as a "semi-scale" Hudson, meaning it has the correct scale drivers but the bodyshell is shortened & has less detail as the full scale version. The cylinder you see on top of the front boiler (in front of the smoke stack) is, on the real loco, a steam heater. This engine was made in the 1950's. The smoke unit takes pellets. Mine was made in 1954. I'd hang onto it if I were you!
@fiftiesflashback1953 a good friend of my grandfather and my father worked for lionel in the irvington new jersey plant and then after that closed i think in 1969 he then was moved to work at the hillside new jersey plant he retired from lionel in the eraly 90s
@bwild61 Educational as well for both the old and the young---girls and boys can have fun with this stuff as it is not a "boy" toy but a kids toy and can allow a child to be very creative--
@7475flyersfan Yeppers and Lionel today sucks when it comes to customer service! Recently, (Oct 2010) one of the hobby store owner's went to the major model RR convention and Lionel wasn't even there! Many there were really upset that Lionel basically thumbed their noses at their customers by not being there!
@rangeclerk It's a shame what we call Lionel has become...All current production takes place in China. The " real " Lionel does not exist anymore. That is why I buy postwar items, they were made to last and made in America.
@7475flyersfan Understood and was surprised to hear from this vid that those that build these toy trains belong to the Auto Union---wow is that crap! Use to work for a company that set the lead for Space Based Tape Recorders---did not have a union and the company had lots of bennies, and a super medical/dental plan---the owners were always around and knew everyon by their first name---
@rangeclerk you notice how the post war trains made in the us even all the animation cars and loaders and what not all still work hell even pre war standard gauge stuff still works better yeah the new stuff is nice but the older stuff has a certain charm that cant be beat
@7475flyersfan Agree and about the ONLY item we still 'build' somewhat and assemble are BOEING aircraft---Lionel the company has gone into the can! An owner of a model store here went to the largest convention where all the manufact. come and the one that did not show was---LIONEL!--quite a bit of their stuff my made by the commie chinese---
@rangeclerk yeah and wit hus paying top dollar for this stuff not likely the bosses are willing to take the cut to hire american worker i wish we could tax them on outsourcing
@7475flyersfan Well the other point is Lionel does not care about its customer base---I wonder if Lionel is even owned by an American Company as an example CELESTRON TELESCOPES out of Torrance CA is owned by a Chinese company based in Main Land (Commie-RED) China.
@7475flyersfan Companies that should have collapsed, getting rid of the Top Management which caused those companies to fail; then having those companies rebuild with New Management---instead we now have to "American Auto Companies" which are now part of the Federal Government--GM now stands for "Government Motors" and as far as "chrysler"--"Chirst What a Piece of Crap"---agree with u as funny when in their ads they claim "American Built".
im 14 and i collect trains. if u look at my videos i have a bigboy and about 13 others. i do agree its not a popular but there are still kids out there, including myself, that love this hobby
@kidwithanuke ya i model this. i have a bigboy thats really nice but ya HO takes alot less space and its not as expensive. my bigboy was $1300 or something like that. so how bigs ur layout
@nardp96 not built yet i had a huge one but i tore it down to start all over again its in the process of begin built now im tring to get rolling stock track and locos i got 12 locos and about 60 vintinge train cars
@kidwithanuke cool. i recently added to mine and made a draw bridge...i have 16 locomotives and 3 of them r real postwar vintage that my grandpa bought then my uncle gave them to me. but i have no idea how many cars i have haha i dont think its over 60...actually not over 50 more than likely...i havent counted. but im still working on my layout
@nardp96 sweet do you get hand-me-downs or do you buy my grandmother goes to auctions and if she see an electric train of any kind she pick it up for me actually i have 1 pre war MARX train set and another post war MARX train set the pre war one is in a ''seen better days shape'' idk if it still runsbut the post war one is in really good shape i know it runs i tested it with a MARX power-pack oh and i also have a LIONEL HO scale boxcar in almost mint cond. i ran it like once and put it away
@kidwithanuke no every one i have i bought new except for the post war ones. i barely run those cause i want to keep them in good condition. but ya the 3 post war were hand me downs but my bigboy and the rest of them were bought out of stores. so im not sure but does lionel still make HO...i dont think they do but im not sure
@nardp96 a little like so boxcars or secenery in the 60s in 70d they made HO so if you find lionel HO buy it my box car is worth 70 bucks and i paid 5 dollars for it so yea sweet most of my stuff is bought and paid by me afther i save like forever also how much would cost me for a good starter set in lionel?
@kidwithanuke well a starter set cost about 230 bucks and that has a engine, cars, track, and a transformer. now if you add on some engines go from 150 to 2500 bucks so it can get expensive. but most starter sets are around 230 its just individual engines that can get expensive. so are you thinking of getting one

Lol, I love how outdate this is now. CR is no longer in existance, except CR shared assets, and modern RR's are now booming.
