Um... chosen by warmongering McCain.. hopped on the teaparty bandwagon 'cause that's where America is heading.. She's a hypocrit w her own agenda. 76% know she's incompetent for office. More of the same corporatism angling themselves in office any slimy way they can... but most of America can see through this obvious corporate infiltration. Down w Palin! Down w corporatism!!!
Where men have natural, self evident rights. Where the constitution is not interpereted by liberal judges as they see fit, but is applied in the way the founders intended it to be. Progressive ideaology is un-American, simply because it seeks to actually change the structure of this great government, and has done it for the last century. If America wants to survive, we need to revive the principles of self government, and natural rights so our children can enjoy a better nation than we have.
@danwk7 This Great Government that is too big and is The Problem?
Consistency, Cons, Consistency. Perhaps it is in the Pantheon of words that start with CON that you would be unaware of, simply by being a CON, but crap, you just aren't articulating the CON talking points in the manner that is required.
They want equality of outcome for all, not equality of opportunity. "progressives" view the constitution as a barrier in the way of progress, not as the principles we should all hold at our core. The united states government was the most ingenious republican government ever created in world history. Any change of that system is really not progress, its taking a step backwards like europe. We need to go back to the limited government of our founders.
Progressives believe the government should constantly expand. That your rights are not self evident and natural, but are always evolving and changing, that they should be given to you by beurocrats and political experts in washington, as they see fit or the public good. "progressive" thinkers believe in regulating private business and using government to solve socioeconomic problems through state-run welfare programs, in effect "spreading the wealth".
In reality, what made the economy drop were liberal programs and institutions like the CRA, and the Fed. Liberals always want to give more power to the government, true conservatives want to take it away. Your government should always be looked at with a skeptical eye.
What liberals always say is" republicans want to give tax cuts to the big evil corporations" and "we need more regulation" what they don't say is that when they pass laws to give the government more control, they regulate and tax small business and the individual as well. When a true conservative policy is in place, giving tax cuts to individuals and small business, that will stimulate the economy. The government can NEVER fix an economy. It didn't work with the new deal, it wont work now.
@danwk7, Ummm, you may want to recheck your history. 3 consecutive republican presidents and the unchecked capitalism of the 20s put us into the depression (much like unchecked capitalism just placed us into this deep recesssion) and the new deal took us out of the depression. That is a documented fact that is not up for debate. And if you try to claim that WWII took us out of the depression, recheck your history once again. The depression ended in 1938, 3 years before we got involved in the war
@joneslt The most recent recession was caused by the housing bubble, wich was caused by the CRA, the artificial interest rates and inflation of the Fed, and quazi government agencies fannie and freddy. The central bank is a liberal idea, that the founders warned against it time and time again. The "new deal" actually made things in the economy worse, if YOU checked your history, you would know the maufacturing jobs created by the war were in place long before we got involved.
@danwk7 - History check. We went into a deep depression in 1930, FDR took office in 1932 and started the new deal machine rolling...the depressin ended in 1938. So you are saying that things were worse in 1938 than they were in 1930? R U Sure about that? As far as central banks, conservatives believe that they should be able to operate without rules,
Conservatives believe there should be absolutely NO central banks, so maybe you should read a book about conservatism instead of getting your info from olbermann. Economists all agree the new deal programs of FDR had little effect, possibly even a negative effect on the economy. It is known that WW2 stimulated the industrial base of america wich brought it out of the great depression.
@danwk7 Ummm, you forgot to lowercase FDR. You need to review your Gingrich Winning Vocabulary Guide for Cons posting. Lowercasing Olbermann is right with the program, A+. You also failed to use the term "Democrat Party". That is an Epic Con Fail, because, even I of the Democratic Party never fail to point out that Conservative is just long form for Cons. At their mildest, they're CON Artists, and many go on to careers as CONvicts.
This is typing, you do have time to review the talking points.
@danwk7 - Do you enjoy things like workmans compensation? Are you protected by law so your employer can't work you to death without compensating you. If you and your family were about to starve to death, would you accept help? These are all liberal idea. If the country was 100% conservative, you would be thrown in a dumpster once you were no longer of any use to a corporation.
Charity, and strong community are responsible for giving those who are in a rough time a helping hand. Look at the amounts of $ given to Katrina victims by single family's alone.
@danwk7 - Oh my. I'd venture to guess that you've learned your history from either Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck. If you are not a major shareholder of a large corporation, owner of a large business, or a CEO, then you've been duped into voting against your own interests my friend.
@joneslt Oh yes, because if I voted democrat they would stand in the corners of the small business owner and cut taxes ? HAH, you say it as if demoratic representatives are squeaky clean as well, as if they dont take huge amounts of money from corporations and unions. Obama is in SEIU's pocket. I learned my history from reading the constitution and understanding the beliefs & intentions of the founders.
@danwk7 - Yes, Even though he title claims that he is, Obama is definitely not a democrat and has already earned the permanent "failure" stamp to his name. When it's all said and done, he will probably go down as even a worse president than Bush, so we agree there.
@danwk7 ..."reading the constitution and understanding the beliefs & intentions of the founders."
So do you "channel" the Founders, or are you magically able to know everyone's intent. Sorry to say, but you need to get your money back for whatever small amount of education you paid attention to. Sheesh that has to be the shallowest, non imaginative thought with nothing but false arrogance and "fuckin-a" thinking that Ive ever read, even on youtube. Congrats on lowering the bar on intellect.
Since absolutely no one but a handful of loudmouthed (but thankfully rare) dumbasses wants her retarded ass for president, that means an easy victory for the Democrats.
She's really just Dubya with a cunt, and I don't think anyone with an actual working brain ever wants to go THERE again.
That to. Thus making Alaska's proximity a kind of a moot point, except for maybe early warning systems, and even then we have satellites for a reason.
Thinking about this tactically. Alaska isn't that great a place. If Russia were to attack the US, instead of going through Alaska, they'd either just cross the pacific to California or Hawaii, or they'd fly north past the north pole, then south through Canada.
Don't you dare send her to the Midwest just because some people here are foolish like her! Why does he equate us in the Midwest with her? Are we foolish and wholly ignorant folks? Hmmmm, last time I checked, we had the most stable portion of the economy in early 2009. There is more stability with home values because of the laws we have in place on loans. Remember, 'conservative' isn't always a dirty word.
I am in Chicago...she was in the midwest and I drove to Fort Wayne to meet her. We have the highest sales tax in the country, Chicago is more dangerous to walk through that Baghdad, state workers have lost their pensions, and NO Republicans are running the show here. Do you think that's a coincidence? Republicans are ahead for 2010 already and Sarah Palin is leading that mission. Not one person can point at Sarah Palin and laugh especially if they voted for the dunce in DC now.
This is because the factories have closed, due to urban decay. The people can't find work, so they turn to crime. It is happening in Red and Blue states.
If you have a look at other countries where the policies are FAR more liberal, like Japan or South Korea or Australia or most of Europe, you can see it NOT happening. Therefore, it is NOT liberal policies that are causing the decay.
No, it is because some people are weak and choose to not better themselves. How many years have we known that our country was the leader in innovation and technology? How many inner-city folks had free education and grants handed to them who did nothing with it? Factories are dead....there is massive expansions in services and IT industries RIGHT HERE that cannot be full because those who could become educated and do those jobs prefer to stay home and wait for their government check.
Come to WI some time. The outsourcing of production has had it's effect. Also, homes have been foreclosed upon. That being said, we still have a pretty stable economy. If we fix the health care issue and retool our trade agreements, we can rebuild our cities and our economy. You don't believe me? Go visit Germany some time. I have family there. We need to stop thinking that we know everything. We can pick and choose from other systems to fix our own. Both sides have a lot to learn.
I appreciate your hint of moderation. I have no problem with social services. Taxes are required for roads, defense, and strong-enriched social services. However; when you're robbing from the sole people responsible for creating the wealth needed for those social services, you're handing over control to the government and sacrificing your liberty - the thing that makes us better than any other country. There are ways to do it without nationalizing it but we must not compromise our freedoms.
That's weird, we don't have that problem. Areas in eastern WI, such as Milwaukee, went to hell when it was easier to move jobs out of the country. More lax tax laws? Voters need to realize that this is one of the three most pressing national security issues for us. If you combine the labels 'conservative' and 'progressive', you'll find something that has worked quite well in WI.
Want to see problems? Go east of Illinois into the rust belt. It was always about the 'free market'.
Well, you have to understand...America has both sides of the scales in terms of Government dependency. Without it, we've been able to advance in technology, lead the world with IT technology, health care innovation, etc. On the flip side, you have a large sector of the people dependent on the government. While certain jobs leave America, this is an overwhelming expansion in the services, IT, health care. (cont'd)
So, what we do is run with the innovative spirit of America. As Palin suggests, we ramp up production of domestic sources of energy to create jobs, we lower taxes on businesses so they can hire more and stop passing those high taxes onto you and I through increased costs for goods and services, we stop Universities like UCLA from increasing their tuition by 30% as education is the key for success in this country. (cont'd)
We make health care more affordable by sending messages to insurance companies that we have more choices which can be accomplished without SHIFTING that dependency from the market to the government. Which sector of commerce can you point out the government doing a better job at than Americans? Insurance companies can be greedy with our dependence, true. But shifting that dependence to the hands of the federal gov't is crazy. Common sense, it is possible - and it's better we unite now.
The right wing has done nothing on the energy issue. They scream 'free-market", so we just more antiquated trucks. I don't want the govt telling me what to drive. That being said, the oil issue has to be resolved soon. And by us! Wind farms, methane converters (standardized for ag use - cost) and (look this up) thermal depolymerization. This is a really great beginning. If we stop sending our energy dollars over seas, 'they' lose. they being the freaks in the Middle East . cont.
If the health care issue can be truly resolved by what you suggest, great lets do it. Lets get more input from the companies that aren't producing as much here as they should. The car companies are conspicuously silent on this debate. Why? If we can solve this, shouldn't we have a health care system with less than the 7-8% GDP they pay in Germany? Cutting health care costs in half would go a long ways towards this goal of increased employment.
The high tax burden bit is a bunch of bull. Many of our corps, and their wealthier execs, pay very little in taxes. That's comparatively speaking. They get federal, state and local tax breaks like you wouldn't believe. Take a look at the Janesville, WI GM plant, and what was done for them! Simplify the tax codes and close the off-shore loopholes. The corps thinking is so short term it isn't funny!
I'm here to tell you that tax burdens on businesses and corporations are putting them out of business. I do 240 corporate tax returns a year and the insane tax code places the same burden on corporations holding 100 or less shareholders just as it does on the "big boys." Those "big boys" you're complaining about cut massive campaign checks to liberals all the time. Why did the right wing wind up with the responsibility of defending Wall Street when most of their contributions went to Obama?
Right now, corporations pay a high 35% on their profits...then, dividends are taxed at the personal income tax level - thus the same income is taxed twice! The "loopholes" are on the side of the government, not the proprietors of goods and services that DO pass that cost off to you as the comsumer. As far of the rest of your suggestions, great! Lobbyists for many industries support these politicians on both sides of the political aisle. If it's not liberals, it's Wall Street Republicans...
We need a breakdown on that. The breakdown need to explain the COMPLETE tax code. Something tells me that the 35% claim is not the final number. The cash makes its way around in other ways, and by other programs.
By the way, the double taxation thing? Don't order an alcoholic drink from the waitress when you go out to eat. Get up and buy it from the bar. Same deal, basically.
There is no breakdown...you have gross receipts minus expenses = a profit * 35% equals their tax. Your analogy with the drink could make sense with a few of the "big boy" corporations you mentioned that have the resources to hire lobbyists and cut campaign donation checks. But will corporations where the shareholders ARE the managers (smaller ones), that person is not only getting up to buy it from the bar, they are buying the alchohol and making it themselves and still taxed twice on it.
Grass roots conservatives like myself advocate erasing the dependency factors, the same ones Sarah Palin is advocating. Taking steps that make us less dependent on Humana, less dependent on Iran, less dependent on China, less dependent on Universities who raise their tuition by 30% in a time where education is more vital than ever before. What good is it if we hand that power over to the gov't? The dependence is still there except its on an entity proven to mismanage everything we give to them.
I, for one, am not into taking the govt out of everything. The larger and more powerful the international financial entities get, the more we need to use the govt for our own self interest as individual citizens. This mindset goes hand-in-hand with my support of the 2nd amendment.
Gotta go spend an hour on the road to see family. Have a nice Turkey Day!
By doing what though? We provided regulators and paid them millions of dollars of our money. The SEC didn't stop Enron from scandal. The regulators didn't stop Bernie Madoff. And whose campaigns are Madoff and Enron and their shareholders cutting checks to? Who are the regulators voting for as individuals? Being part of the grassroots means that without cost, we as members of the market consumer base hold these companies accountable and scrutinize when necessary. Happy Thanksgiving, too!
Finally, I just want to say that you speak with an eloquent regard for specificity in achieving a lot of the goals that folks like Palin are advocating. You have an amazing gift and it really just takes a shift of focus on a bigger-picture level for you to be persuasive in the specific examples you gave. But until we can point out any one industry that did better under the guise of the federal government, Too Big to Fail = keep it away from Capitol Hill!
Sarah Palin will be great if she ran for president. And if she chooses that bimbo Miss California or Glenn Beck in the ticket it would make it even more hilarious! I think it would be great for the comedic aspect of politics. Can you imagine how much clowning we would get?
I honestly beleive that in 8-10 years, hsi country will have a moderate party and a liberal party vying 4 control with a shrinking 3rd party called conservatives (who should be called radical or anarchy, or just he Dumb party).
Palin's only supporters are wacko neoconservatives, wacko evangelicals, and wacko tea baggers (might be the same as the two aforementioned). I hope she keeps talking and hope she gets the rushpublican nomination so that President Obama will be reelected by a landslide.
Moreover; I predict over the next 3 years, Palin's contribution to the political spectrum will continue to bring people together and united folks in a way that HAS TO HAPPEN for this country to move forward. She's on record of fighting members of BOTH parties. MY prediction is she could even perhaps turn liberal states around and perhaps even make California Reagan country again. Californians are so frustrated with their current Senators.
She has been fighting against ALL democrats and the MODERATE members of the Republican party. She is working towards making America more extremist, excluding everybody who does not think as she does, as evidenced by her attacks on those of her own party.
Honestly, no liberal can say that Sarah Palin would be disastrous AFTER it was concrete that she had more experience than Obama did. Now they cannot say it after they've seen him fail. Today, he has a 49% approval rating and is the fastest dropping American president since 1953. Sarah Palin has an entire grass-roots, real American base. At her book signing yesterday, thousands were there and we all waited 8-9-10 hours to meet her and eveyone was polite and decent with no trouble.
They like excluding everybody who does not feel as they do, like the Demorats, atheists, liberals, moderate republicans, muslims, pro lifers, catholics, native americans, blacks, city folk, everybody who is not one of them, fundamental, rural, pentacostal, young earth creationist.
That's YOUR fantasy to scream out "entitlement!" It is a fact that more blacks die at a faster rate by other blacks as opposed to whites doing it to them, and here you are making assumptions to feed your own inadequcies and short comings as a human being. There were all nationalities at her book signing yesterday and one black man proudly said to me "I've been here since last night at 9pm."
So, please stop classing up his category to pit him in with Al Sharpton.
Oh and Palin HAS been disasterous for Wausilla. She left Wausilla $20,000,000 in debt. That is MONSTEROUS for a town of 5,000 people.
And calling her base "real American" just shows that people like you want to exclude everybody who does not feel the same as you from the discussion. And excluding people will only turn yourself into the minority. A large minority, but a minority nonetheless.
More lies. First Bush got to where Obama is today 3 years into his FIRST term. If you're telling me Americans blamed him for a national disaster, then your view of reality is skewed.
Sarah Palin did not leave Wasilla in debt. She secured the sports complex with a voter-initiated (they voted and agreed) temporary tax increase to cover it's cost. The debt was secured and there was a cash surplus.
Wasilla became the second most wealthy town in Alaska under her. Lies don't work anymore.
He was blamed for not doing anything to help. Instead of flying over to help, or sending people down or allocating funds for search and rescue, he stood on the tarmac and ate birthday cake with John McCain.
And there was NO news network verbally assulting Bush 24 hours a day, and Bush never inherited an economic meltdown.
If Sarah Palin were Gov of New Orleans at the time or Mayor unlike the inept Mayor or Governor in LA, Katrina would have went smoother. Lousiana during that time was prime example of what happens when you rely on big government. It wasn't Bush's job to do everything, FEMA extended itself, it was more the local government needed to be on the spot, but they weren't. The "economic meltdown" was a result of liberal legislation like the Fair Housing Act. Still, Obama has made it worse 10 times.
No, it is the President's job to help. THE BUCK STOPS HERE. He had the POWER TO INTERVENE, and he did NOT. Even Al Gore did more as a private citizen, even WALMART did more. He could have done SOMETHING, whether leaning on the national guard to do more, sending buses, organising a relief effort,
And the economic meltdown was mostly a result of deregulation and supply side economic policy.
Now you're just struggling for something to say. First, the President DID respond and so did FEMA. You couldn't have possibly compared it to Clinton or Carter (like the brilliant Iranian Hostage Crisis Recuse Mission put forth by Carter, LOL) The problem in New Orleans was that the idiot liberals (both the politicians and the base) needed their hands held like babies through it all. How did supply side economics results in people buying homes they couldn't afford?
"How did supply side economics results in people buying homes they couldn't afford? "
Mortgage brokers/loan officers found that they could write more when they encouraged people to take out a larger loan than they could actually afford because the home was just going to appreciate anyway. They also played on peoples ignorance with loans whose rates went up after two-four years. Selling them on the initial low payment. Psychological manipulation, retail/marketing corps are really good at it!
What!? That is the result of the Fair Housing Act under YOUR Democrats which required lenders to lower their standards, little to no money down, remember!? You bite off more than you can chew and for the next 20 years of your life you charge up credit cards and re-finance as the value increases for the purposes of starting all over again - while the heads on Wall Street are cutting campaign funding checks to liberals. Suddenly, you get to blame it on something else? This is not supply-side.
Only CERTAIN lenders were subject to the bill, and these lenders were not the ones that were the worst offenders.
The worst offenders, WaMu, AIG, Countrywide, were not subject to this legislation, they made bad loans ON THEIR OWN, with a view to packaging the loans up into bonds(these became toxic) and selling them off. And why could they do this?Because they were supervised by the OTS, who had the loosest standards in town.
Haha! Are you seriously telling me that Fannie and Freddie have nothing to do with those lenders. Do the words "Chris Dodd + Countrywide" mean anything to you? These big boys, who donated more money to liberal campaigns put pressure on local lenders to decrease lending standards and selling things to people they could not afford. Bush, McCain, and House Republicans were screaming about this from the rooftops about this and now you're trying to put ME in the position of defending them?
And the Iran Hostage Crisis? Really? The Republicans made a deal with the terrorists in THAT case for the Iranians to KEEP THE HOSTAGES until CARTER LEFT OFFICE.
Look at jefevonQs answer to your question below. It explains how the loans were sold, and I say below further, as to how they got away with it.
The President was awaiting information from both the failed New Orleans mayor and ignoramous Kathleen Blanco. Say why did Mississippi get damage from Katrina and their Governor was able to put forth effective re-building missions without a bunch of whining? Hmmmm....makes ya wonder, doesn't it? The same is to be said for you if course. If your ability to recover aligns with your ability to debate, then no wonder you love to rely on big government.
As far as economic populism is concerned, Ron Paul is the FAR greater threat. He has the perfect blend of common sense and facepalm. He recites a few talking points, but has no idea the damage his policies would do to an already very weakened system.
One must stabilise the patient before starting major surgery. That is one of the major reasons Obama has not completely reformed the system yet.
Your assessment doesnt describe a party at all. The import of this title is that the Republican [so-called] Party is in fact a political cult. And President Palin? God help us all!
I'm sorry the base doesn't stand a chance against Palin's detractors and the comedy she keeps put out there. If she runs, the media will eat her alive.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sarah Palin will be president and Gil Smart's nightmares will continue for 8 years as Palin UNLEASHES the WRATH OF GOD HERSELF onto him and EXPOSE his PUSSY for the WHOLE WORLD TO SEE and DESTROY his credibility! Palin will do the same to ALL MALE WORLD LEADERS and reveal ALL THEIR PUSSIES, ESPECIALLY Hu Jing Tao, who has the BIGGEST PUSSY in the WHOLE WORLD!
Well if she really does have a chance remember there needs to be 2 pre-requisites.
1.2011 economy still has to be bad under Obama. Presidents who have sagging economies are always booted out. If the US is in worse shape than it is in 2008 bye bye Obama.
2. Palin needs to stay relevant for 3 more years. It is great she is doing this now and she is right focusing on 2010 but she needs to keep touch and relevant in politics for 3 years. The "What have you done for me lately" syndrome.
Except she is a dumbass. The more she says, the more facepalm there will be for people to bring up just before the election to remind everybody of what a dumbass she really is.
And her supporters behave so badly that they will repel the "normals", leaving only the dipshits voting for her.
You make a great point on her major weakness. She always punches down and to quote John Cleese of Monty Python "She is like a pretty parrot...".
If she wants real credibility she needs to start being accountable on her problems. She needs an actual plan on the economy that will help the exploding middle class.
She needs to stop being admired from her "background" of identity politics and looks(if a man did any of this no one would vote for him) and start being serious. She has 3 years.
Talking serious would alienate her base. They want OUTRAGE!!! They want to HIT and HIT and HIT the enemy hard. They do not want rational argument, they want to get their guns. They love the "birther" conspiracy theories, they go to their teaparties and want to eliminate taxes and government. These people are anarchists who do not know the meaning of the word anarchy and think they are Libertarians. It is all about their rights and nothing about responsibility.
Yeah but her base will adore her regardless. It will take something heavy in order to alienate her base. What the "it" is I don't know and if people really don't want her in politics that will be the key. Remember people love her the same reason they liked Bush, just in female form.
Not only she is a person you would like to have a beer with but also go to a salon.
You may be onto something with the tribalism of the Palin Base. They always need an enemy. Her fans still want the world to be more like the crusades and the cold war.
You get rid of the "enemies" you get rid of her base.
Problem with that is that now the base wants to "kill" liberals. So now the focus is internal on people who don't agree with them or are on "their" side.
If she does make herself more moderate, her own base may turn against her.
They will turn to whoever is going to spout more rage, somebody like Glenn Beck. The insane love more insanity. They love the charge you get when you get more and more angry. It is a self reinforcing feedback loop. They encourage extremism in their leaders, and the leaders encourage extremism in their followers.
Sarah Palin will drive Liberals and Democrats to their PAINFUL DEATHS and EXTINCTION when she becomes POTUS. By 2021, Liberalism and the Democratic Party will be EXTINCT and Socialism, Communism, Progressivism will become defunct. The WHOLE WORLD will convert to Palinist Conservatism and run entirely by women! Men will never ever lead the world's governments again! The world will be so much better if it is lead and run entirely by women and men are reduced to being slaves!
Her base will grow in exponential numbers and they will become the permanent majority overtaking this country! They will install her as America's NEXT and GREATEST POTUS of ALL TIMES for she is TRULY GOD's CHOSEN ONE and the REAL MESSIAH and SAVIOR!
Sarah Palin will not only be the GOP nominee, she WILL PWN Obambi and become America's GREATEST POTUS of ALL TIMES for she is GOD's CHOSEN ONE, GOD INCARNATE and the LIVING EMBODIMENT OF GOD HERSELF! She will be America's GREATEST POTUS of ALL TIMES and will PUT ALL MALE POTUS to SHAME for they are ALL her DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCHES and PUSSIES! Palin will save this country for she is the REAL SAVIOR and MESSIAH! She will drive unemployment and national debt down to ZERO with Palinomics!
LMFAO!!! You ought to take this on the road to comedy clubs because it is damn funny! I laughed and laughed. Palin as America's savior. That is hilarious!! Keep up the good jokes!
Reagan SUCKS compared to Palin. He is Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin will be a SUPERIOR POTUS than Reagan ever was and will put him to SHAME! She will SURPASS Reagan and Palinomics will save this world economy more than Reaganomics! Palinomics will drive unemployment, the deficits and the national debt DOWN TO ZERO!
She'd look good in Country Music Performin'-Outfits. She could lassoo the presidency. She might look good in any kind of boots, with a lone ranger mask. Maybe some Gaucho outfit. Maybe an "official looking uniform" but with ...
A very astute assessment Gil. You are so right about Republicans embracing economic populism. Not going to happen. While the party dregs are loaded with lower and low middle income earners...they are financed and indoctrinated by huge Corporate interests. I think the Repubs have had it...they've pushed themselves so far to the right that they've become extremists.
At some point some republicans are just going to have to say: "Screw the base, we are fighting against these clowns." Else the U.S. will quickly become a one-party state, at least on the federal level.
It's perfectly possible to have a succesful party build around right wing extremism, but it's not possible to have it run entirely by bible-thumping lunatics and incompetent schmucks.
I could NEVER vote for Sarah Palin, even if she ran for dog catcher.

Progressives believe the government should constantly expand. That your rights are not self evident and natural, but are always evolving and changing, that they should be given to you by beurocrats and political experts in washington, as they see fit or the public good. "progressive" thinkers believe in regulating private business and using government to solve socioeconomic problems through state-run welfare programs, in effect "spreading the wealth".
danwk7 2 years ago
In reality, what made the economy drop were liberal programs and institutions like the CRA, and the Fed. Liberals always want to give more power to the government, true conservatives want to take it away. Your government should always be looked at with a skeptical eye.
danwk7 2 years ago
What liberals always say is" republicans want to give tax cuts to the big evil corporations" and "we need more regulation" what they don't say is that when they pass laws to give the government more control, they regulate and tax small business and the individual as well. When a true conservative policy is in place, giving tax cuts to individuals and small business, that will stimulate the economy. The government can NEVER fix an economy. It didn't work with the new deal, it wont work now.
danwk7 2 years ago
@danwk7, Ummm, you may want to recheck your history. 3 consecutive republican presidents and the unchecked capitalism of the 20s put us into the depression (much like unchecked capitalism just placed us into this deep recesssion) and the new deal took us out of the depression. That is a documented fact that is not up for debate. And if you try to claim that WWII took us out of the depression, recheck your history once again. The depression ended in 1938, 3 years before we got involved in the war
joneslt 2 years ago
@joneslt The most recent recession was caused by the housing bubble, wich was caused by the CRA, the artificial interest rates and inflation of the Fed, and quazi government agencies fannie and freddy. The central bank is a liberal idea, that the founders warned against it time and time again. The "new deal" actually made things in the economy worse, if YOU checked your history, you would know the maufacturing jobs created by the war were in place long before we got involved.
danwk7 2 years ago
@danwk7 - History check. We went into a deep depression in 1930, FDR took office in 1932 and started the new deal machine rolling...the depressin ended in 1938. So you are saying that things were worse in 1938 than they were in 1930? R U Sure about that? As far as central banks, conservatives believe that they should be able to operate without rules,
joneslt 2 years ago
Conservatives believe there should be absolutely NO central banks, so maybe you should read a book about conservatism instead of getting your info from olbermann. Economists all agree the new deal programs of FDR had little effect, possibly even a negative effect on the economy. It is known that WW2 stimulated the industrial base of america wich brought it out of the great depression.
danwk7 2 years ago
@danwk7 Ummm, you forgot to lowercase FDR. You need to review your Gingrich Winning Vocabulary Guide for Cons posting. Lowercasing Olbermann is right with the program, A+. You also failed to use the term "Democrat Party". That is an Epic Con Fail, because, even I of the Democratic Party never fail to point out that Conservative is just long form for Cons. At their mildest, they're CON Artists, and many go on to careers as CONvicts.
This is typing, you do have time to review the talking points.
painxtreme 1 year ago
@danwk7 - Do you enjoy things like workmans compensation? Are you protected by law so your employer can't work you to death without compensating you. If you and your family were about to starve to death, would you accept help? These are all liberal idea. If the country was 100% conservative, you would be thrown in a dumpster once you were no longer of any use to a corporation.

Charity, and strong community are responsible for giving those who are in a rough time a helping hand. Look at the amounts of $ given to Katrina victims by single family's alone.
danwk7 2 years ago
@danwk7 - Oh my. I'd venture to guess that you've learned your history from either Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck. If you are not a major shareholder of a large corporation, owner of a large business, or a CEO, then you've been duped into voting against your own interests my friend.
joneslt 2 years ago
@joneslt Oh yes, because if I voted democrat they would stand in the corners of the small business owner and cut taxes ? HAH, you say it as if demoratic representatives are squeaky clean as well, as if they dont take huge amounts of money from corporations and unions. Obama is in SEIU's pocket. I learned my history from reading the constitution and understanding the beliefs & intentions of the founders.
danwk7 2 years ago
@danwk7 - Yes, Even though he title claims that he is, Obama is definitely not a democrat and has already earned the permanent "failure" stamp to his name. When it's all said and done, he will probably go down as even a worse president than Bush, so we agree there.
joneslt 2 years ago
@danwk7 ..."reading the constitution and understanding the beliefs & intentions of the founders."
So do you "channel" the Founders, or are you magically able to know everyone's intent. Sorry to say, but you need to get your money back for whatever small amount of education you paid attention to. Sheesh that has to be the shallowest, non imaginative thought with nothing but false arrogance and "fuckin-a" thinking that Ive ever read, even on youtube. Congrats on lowering the bar on intellect.

Therefore, it is NOT liberal policies that are causing the decay.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
No, it is because some people are weak and choose to not better themselves. How many years have we known that our country was the leader in innovation and technology? How many inner-city folks had free education and grants handed to them who did nothing with it? Factories are dead....there is massive expansions in services and IT industries RIGHT HERE that cannot be full because those who could become educated and do those jobs prefer to stay home and wait for their government check.
snorp73 2 years ago
Come to WI some time. The outsourcing of production has had it's effect. Also, homes have been foreclosed upon. That being said, we still have a pretty stable economy. If we fix the health care issue and retool our trade agreements, we can rebuild our cities and our economy. You don't believe me? Go visit Germany some time. I have family there. We need to stop thinking that we know everything. We can pick and choose from other systems to fix our own. Both sides have a lot to learn.
jefevonQ 2 years ago
I appreciate your hint of moderation. I have no problem with social services. Taxes are required for roads, defense, and strong-enriched social services. However; when you're robbing from the sole people responsible for creating the wealth needed for those social services, you're handing over control to the government and sacrificing your liberty - the thing that makes us better than any other country. There are ways to do it without nationalizing it but we must not compromise our freedoms.
snorp73 2 years ago
That's weird, we don't have that problem. Areas in eastern WI, such as Milwaukee, went to hell when it was easier to move jobs out of the country. More lax tax laws? Voters need to realize that this is one of the three most pressing national security issues for us. If you combine the labels 'conservative' and 'progressive', you'll find something that has worked quite well in WI.
Want to see problems? Go east of Illinois into the rust belt. It was always about the 'free market'.
jefevonQ 2 years ago
Well, you have to understand...America has both sides of the scales in terms of Government dependency. Without it, we've been able to advance in technology, lead the world with IT technology, health care innovation, etc. On the flip side, you have a large sector of the people dependent on the government. While certain jobs leave America, this is an overwhelming expansion in the services, IT, health care. (cont'd)
snorp73 2 years ago
So, what we do is run with the innovative spirit of America. As Palin suggests, we ramp up production of domestic sources of energy to create jobs, we lower taxes on businesses so they can hire more and stop passing those high taxes onto you and I through increased costs for goods and services, we stop Universities like UCLA from increasing their tuition by 30% as education is the key for success in this country. (cont'd)
snorp73 2 years ago
We make health care more affordable by sending messages to insurance companies that we have more choices which can be accomplished without SHIFTING that dependency from the market to the government. Which sector of commerce can you point out the government doing a better job at than Americans? Insurance companies can be greedy with our dependence, true. But shifting that dependence to the hands of the federal gov't is crazy. Common sense, it is possible - and it's better we unite now.
snorp73 2 years ago
The right wing has done nothing on the energy issue. They scream 'free-market", so we just more antiquated trucks. I don't want the govt telling me what to drive. That being said, the oil issue has to be resolved soon. And by us! Wind farms, methane converters (standardized for ag use - cost) and (look this up) thermal depolymerization. This is a really great beginning. If we stop sending our energy dollars over seas, 'they' lose. they being the freaks in the Middle East . cont.
jefevonQ 2 years ago
Cutting health care costs in half would go a long ways towards this goal of increased employment.
jefevonQ 2 years ago

The high tax burden bit is a bunch of bull. Many of our corps, and their wealthier execs, pay very little in taxes. That's comparatively speaking. They get federal, state and local tax breaks like you wouldn't believe. Take a look at the Janesville, WI GM plant, and what was done for them! Simplify the tax codes and close the off-shore loopholes. The corps thinking is so short term it isn't funny!
Too Big to Fail = Too Big for the Free Market
jefevonQ 2 years ago
I'm here to tell you that tax burdens on businesses and corporations are putting them out of business. I do 240 corporate tax returns a year and the insane tax code places the same burden on corporations holding 100 or less shareholders just as it does on the "big boys." Those "big boys" you're complaining about cut massive campaign checks to liberals all the time. Why did the right wing wind up with the responsibility of defending Wall Street when most of their contributions went to Obama?
snorp73 2 years ago
Right now, corporations pay a high 35% on their profits...then, dividends are taxed at the personal income tax level - thus the same income is taxed twice! The "loopholes" are on the side of the government, not the proprietors of goods and services that DO pass that cost off to you as the comsumer. As far of the rest of your suggestions, great! Lobbyists for many industries support these politicians on both sides of the political aisle. If it's not liberals, it's Wall Street Republicans...
snorp73 2 years ago
We need a breakdown on that. The breakdown need to explain the COMPLETE tax code. Something tells me that the 35% claim is not the final number. The cash makes its way around in other ways, and by other programs.
By the way, the double taxation thing? Don't order an alcoholic drink from the waitress when you go out to eat. Get up and buy it from the bar. Same deal, basically.
jefevonQ 2 years ago
There is no breakdown...you have gross receipts minus expenses = a profit * 35% equals their tax. Your analogy with the drink could make sense with a few of the "big boy" corporations you mentioned that have the resources to hire lobbyists and cut campaign donation checks. But will corporations where the shareholders ARE the managers (smaller ones), that person is not only getting up to buy it from the bar, they are buying the alchohol and making it themselves and still taxed twice on it.
snorp73 2 years ago
Grass roots conservatives like myself advocate erasing the dependency factors, the same ones Sarah Palin is advocating. Taking steps that make us less dependent on Humana, less dependent on Iran, less dependent on China, less dependent on Universities who raise their tuition by 30% in a time where education is more vital than ever before. What good is it if we hand that power over to the gov't? The dependence is still there except its on an entity proven to mismanage everything we give to them.
snorp73 2 years ago
I, for one, am not into taking the govt out of everything. The larger and more powerful the international financial entities get, the more we need to use the govt for our own self interest as individual citizens. This mindset goes hand-in-hand with my support of the 2nd amendment.
Gotta go spend an hour on the road to see family. Have a nice Turkey Day!
jefevonQ 2 years ago
By doing what though? We provided regulators and paid them millions of dollars of our money. The SEC didn't stop Enron from scandal. The regulators didn't stop Bernie Madoff. And whose campaigns are Madoff and Enron and their shareholders cutting checks to? Who are the regulators voting for as individuals? Being part of the grassroots means that without cost, we as members of the market consumer base hold these companies accountable and scrutinize when necessary. Happy Thanksgiving, too!
snorp73 2 years ago
Finally, I just want to say that you speak with an eloquent regard for specificity in achieving a lot of the goals that folks like Palin are advocating. You have an amazing gift and it really just takes a shift of focus on a bigger-picture level for you to be persuasive in the specific examples you gave. But until we can point out any one industry that did better under the guise of the federal government, Too Big to Fail = keep it away from Capitol Hill!
snorp73 2 years ago
Sarah Palin will be great if she ran for president. And if she chooses that bimbo Miss California or Glenn Beck in the ticket it would make it even more hilarious! I think it would be great for the comedic aspect of politics. Can you imagine how much clowning we would get?

Honestly, no liberal can say that Sarah Palin would be disastrous AFTER it was concrete that she had more experience than Obama did. Now they cannot say it after they've seen him fail. Today, he has a 49% approval rating and is the fastest dropping American president since 1953. Sarah Palin has an entire grass-roots, real American base. At her book signing yesterday, thousands were there and we all waited 8-9-10 hours to meet her and eveyone was polite and decent with no trouble.

Bush dropped faster after Hurricane Katrina.
A large minority, but a minority nonetheless.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
Lies don't work anymore.
snorp73 2 years ago
No, he was not blamed for the hurricane.
He was blamed for not doing anything to help. Instead of flying over to help, or sending people down or allocating funds for search and rescue, he stood on the tarmac and ate birthday cake with John McCain.
And there was NO news network verbally assulting Bush 24 hours a day, and Bush never inherited an economic meltdown.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
If Sarah Palin were Gov of New Orleans at the time or Mayor unlike the inept Mayor or Governor in LA, Katrina would have went smoother. Lousiana during that time was prime example of what happens when you rely on big government. It wasn't Bush's job to do everything, FEMA extended itself, it was more the local government needed to be on the spot, but they weren't. The "economic meltdown" was a result of liberal legislation like the Fair Housing Act. Still, Obama has made it worse 10 times.
snorp73 2 years ago
No, it is the President's job to help. THE BUCK STOPS HERE. He had the POWER TO INTERVENE, and he did NOT. Even Al Gore did more as a private citizen, even WALMART did more. He could have done SOMETHING, whether leaning on the national guard to do more, sending buses, organising a relief effort,
And the economic meltdown was mostly a result of deregulation and supply side economic policy.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
Now you're just struggling for something to say. First, the President DID respond and so did FEMA. You couldn't have possibly compared it to Clinton or Carter (like the brilliant Iranian Hostage Crisis Recuse Mission put forth by Carter, LOL) The problem in New Orleans was that the idiot liberals (both the politicians and the base) needed their hands held like babies through it all. How did supply side economics results in people buying homes they couldn't afford?
snorp73 2 years ago
"How did supply side economics results in people buying homes they couldn't afford? "
Mortgage brokers/loan officers found that they could write more when they encouraged people to take out a larger loan than they could actually afford because the home was just going to appreciate anyway. They also played on peoples ignorance with loans whose rates went up after two-four years. Selling them on the initial low payment. Psychological manipulation, retail/marketing corps are really good at it!
jefevonQ 2 years ago
This is not supply-side.
snorp73 2 years ago
Only CERTAIN lenders were subject to the bill, and these lenders were not the ones that were the worst offenders.
The worst offenders, WaMu, AIG, Countrywide, were not subject to this legislation, they made bad loans ON THEIR OWN, with a view to packaging the loans up into bonds(these became toxic) and selling them off. And why could they do this?Because they were supervised by the OTS, who had the loosest standards in town.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
Bush, McCain, and House Republicans were screaming about this from the rooftops about this and now you're trying to put ME in the position of defending them?
snorp73 2 years ago
The President did not respond for DAYS.

If your ability to recover aligns with your ability to debate, then no wonder you love to rely on big government.
snorp73 2 years ago
As far as economic populism is concerned, Ron Paul is the FAR greater threat. He has the perfect blend of common sense and facepalm. He recites a few talking points, but has no idea the damage his policies would do to an already very weakened system.
One must stabilise the patient before starting major surgery. That is one of the major reasons Obama has not completely reformed the system yet.

The "What have you done for me lately" syndrome.

dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
You make a great point on her major weakness. She always punches down and to quote John Cleese of Monty Python "She is like a pretty parrot...".
If she wants real credibility she needs to start being accountable on her problems. She needs an actual plan on the economy that will help the exploding middle class.
She needs to stop being admired from her "background" of identity politics and looks(if a man did any of this no one would vote for him) and start being serious. She has 3 years.

In short, they don't like logic.
