if you a tenor, then you can understand the different between them all

    GOD blezzzz.

  • We lost a Beautiful Man and Singer when Mario Died. God Bless

  • Mario looks like he might be getting ready to kick some ass in the pic with short sleeves. He wasn't above it if I recall. Such a voice.

  • i'm a man who got into bar fights when i was young. not good. this one by mario makes me cry.

  • he is the greatest, in my mind.

  • Marios version of Ava Maria played on the old gramophone in my parents house as I grew up and his voice is just fantastic. Love the way he expresses his music and words. Gayle Force.

  • Do you have the Christmas song "Do you hear what I hear." I adore his rendition of the song. If you have it would you upload, please.

Love hearing him. What a magnificent talent!

  • dekoju jums kad galime matyt ir zavetis mario lanza.slove yotube

  • Great, but Lanza's "The Lord's Prayer" is even better. It allows him to show more of his range.

  • I think bocelli has a higher range, though lanes has a sweeter voice. Caruso has a higher range but is not as sweet as lanes.

  • he is far not Caruzo........it is the truth!

  • this is the best version...i love enrico caaruso but lanza is better when it came to this song..one amazing voice!!!

  • best singer goin gives goose bumps

  • When I was really really little, Mario Lanza was in our parish. My parents bought his album. I heard it playing a lot in the house.

  • Going to a celebration for his 90th Birthday this evening with the BBC Concert Orchestra and lots of guest singers.

He was my fathers favourite - I so wish I could have taken him as he would have loved it.

  • The worlds best male opera singer ever !! So much love and passion in his voice and expression.I don't care how he was taught, he is still the best

  • For my mum who died 2 days ago. Rest in peace. This will always remind me of you.

  • @Tex627 Early days it will get betta. I found my mum on floor dead in 2001 but so many happy memories so take care.

  • For my mum who died 2 days ago. Rest in peace. This will always remind me of you.

  • His recordings were banned in Ufa, Russia, so it is a pleasure to hear him here. Mario was the best tenor who ever lived. Isk & Tsk Youyousova

  • He was given full scholarship to Tanglewood - you can verify this on Wikipedia. His discovery was about the age of 16 - he delivered milk and sang on the milk truck and one of the noted conductors of his time, heard him coming down the street - ultimately took him aside and offered to pay for his entire scholarship. It's a magical story and he was a magical man - my favorite tenor after 60 years of listening to him, and always will be.

  • @oldladyplayspiano Luvya! Notes on back of Great Caruso (Movie) LP had it that conductor of Boston Symphony Orch., Serge Kussevitsky, heard him and made remarks like the ones you mention. One thing for sure, Serge took him up to Tanglewood (1941? 1942? and mebbe again after the war). So mebbe it was Serge. Serge allegedly said: greatest natural voice since Caruso. My grandma, who heard 'em all, 1915-1940, at Met, said C gtest, Gigli next, Lori Volpi 3rd. Mario, passion over artistry.

  • I like when he sings O My Beloved. I dont know if that is the name of the song or a line from it but it is beautiful. Hope I can find it in the list Yoni89

  • i simply become emotional when hearing his songs. any other words don't express what happens other than it. it makes me humbled and grateful to listen.

  • handsome fella, it's a shame white men don't choose to sing like this anymore.

  • I have never heard this sung better by anyone. Any when.

  • A beautiful man with the most beautiful voice ever. I saw the Great Causo several times as a boy. His death was ill timed. Some of us have still not come to terms with it.

  • @johnniedent Me too ! George Wu, AIA 2011-9-5

  • @johnniedent

QUIEN HAYA VISTO AL GRAN CARUSO ES UN PRIVILGEIADO DE DIOS

  • I'm sorry but his interpretation sounds too "repressed". It's too plain. Just a nice soothing voice with no showmanship.

  • @koalaswrath You must understand that this is how this song was song in the fifties.....when aaron neville came along he changed how this song was sang.....but with all due respect learn music, lanza was groundbreaking and can not be considered "repressed"

  • HIS VOICE IS SO SPLENDID BROUGHT UP LISTENING TO HIM

  • the best tenor EVER.did the mafia kill him as reported ????

  • why do people feel the need to put down one of the greatest singers the world has produced if you dont like it go listen 2 lady gaga, thankyou for sharing the voice with us and rest in peace mario.

  • Quel talent Mario ! Pas assez connu à mon gout ! Bravissimo e piacevole !

  • Probably my longest loved singer together with Bjorling. It is quite understandable why the angels demanded his presence at such a young age.

Oh and alocohc, try adjusting the cheek positions!

  • Probably my longest loved singer together with Bjorling. It is quite understandable why the angels requested his presence at such a young age.

  • off pitch my arse

  • Huh?

  • Thegreatluigi's mum actually, but I just wanted to say thanks for this post. My dad was a life long Mario Lanza fan, and we played this at his funeral two years ago. We saw him in to this, and out to "I'll walk with God" I doubt I'll ever listen to Mario without crying, just like my dad used to.

  • My mom loved Mario Lanza, I hope he's up there singng to her, may God be with them!

  • @pinkcuppycake1223 I can HONESTLY tell you that there are many LANZA's still alive, related to this talented singer. And believe it or not, i am one of them(: My name is Trina Lanza, daughter of Christopher David Lanza, who is great-grandson of Mario Lanza...

i think, either that or he is my great grampa.

Nice to see many people still appreciate him.

  • @tinkerbell5475334

he was the greatest voice. God bless the Lanza family.

  • @pinkcuppycake1223 -- Just read that you are related to Mario Lanza. That is amazing to hear. He had one of the most powerful yet controlled voices. There are few singers who match the reverence he interprets. Are any of your relatives singers? While driving during rush-hour traffic, I play Mario's albums (tape) and it makes the trip enjoyable. About 25 years ago, I studied with one of Mario's coaches, Dr. Dear Verhines of Hollywood.

  • pavarotti pwns this guy every day for breakfast

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think that girl on AGT will be singing this. So I came here to see how it is supposed to be done.

  • WAS A mp i the army durinf the koren war, he is part of your freedoom

  • sublime!!

  • loved mario lanza

  • I am a Pavorartti purist and find his voice so interesting and intriguing. An untrained natural voice. What a concept.

  • @tonivaldez - I love Pavarotti too, but Lanza, I believe, has more intensity and feeling for most selections, which may not be acceptable for the interpretation of arias, etc.

  • incredible voice , the best tenor EVER

  • Magnifficent tenor voice..once in a lifetime.

  • guaoooo que voz , el que esto no le guste no iene sangre en las venas

  • Best Italian tenor ever to live, and had enough balls to sing "Danny Boy". Much respect.

  • The 'Ave Maria' I've been searching for. Love this tune; as soon as I heard the notes the goose bumps came...thank you.

  • Seine Stimme hat einen besonderen Charakter, deshalb ist sie so liebenswert, kraftvoll, voller Leidenschaft die Anbetung Mariens

  • I have some digitally enhanced pieces by Lanza on a CD and his voice was rich and beautiful. Unfortunately the early recording technology hid all the beautiful nuances in his voice. He really was one of the greatest tenors ever.

  • WHAT is THE TRUTH about JESUS & HIS MOTHER MARY? Simply A JEW JESUS didn't DIE on THE CROSS &so HIS PUPILS STOLE "so called HIS BODY" from THE TOMB as ROMAN SOLDIERS TOLD &so ROMAN SOLDIERS were LOOKING for ALIVE JESUS & HIS MOTHER &HIS PUPILS as SWINDLERS! So JESUS & HIS MOTHER had to ESCAPE from THE TERRITORY where THEY were KNOWN VERY WELL. So JEWS PROPAGATED A SWINDLE that JESUS & HIS MOTHER MARY CAME to THE SKY! So ROMAN EMPERORS DECIDED to CRUCIFY "so called FIRST CHRISTIANS" as SWINDLERS!

  • Now thats how u sing it !!!!!!!

  • wonderf, l thank you, so much.

  • WONDERFUL.

  • Such a beautiful voice!

  • This is a voice I will never tire of listening to, especially in this song. This gives new meaning to "a match made in heaven." Thanks for sharing, Yoni89.

  • OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! :)

  • шикарно................

  • Lanza = pure as diamond.

  • merci de ce souvenir d'enfance!

  • Grande Mario Lanza, uma voz unica acredito que é uma das mais bela voz do mundo..bravo

  • fantastic singer i have always loved from being a child an now in 40s i still love him xxx thank you for posting these songs

  • Ooooh mijn.....,

dit was het lievelingslied van mijn overleden vader.

Kippevel, brok in mijn keel en bengelende tranen over mijn wangen.

    PRACHTIG!!!!!!

  • An absolute sin to lose this great man at only 38yrs old but our loss is gods gain.. Mario will be leading the choir of angels in heaven. The greatest voice in history. God bless you Mario.

  • I love you very much

  • Spine tingling stuff-makes your hairs stand on end and I actually find myself catching my breathe at the high parts!..the man is a legend!

  • oh my god... what a voice, what a power, what a feeling.

  • The following have either said they greatly admired Mario Lanza's voice or that he had the best voice they had ever heard: Artuto Toscanini, Elvis Presley, Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Maria Callas, and these are just a few of his many admirers. But I guess some people here on YouTube know better. Thanks Yoni89 for posting.

  • Mario perhaps now was not the choice. But at his time he was imense and boy did he present. A self taught singer. He gave joy to many and that is the important thing. There are those who look to perfection and cannot do what he did. But at the end of the day he WAS.

  • God i wish you had spared this wonderful man so the younger generation like myself could have fully appreciated his brilliance. the greatest voice in history without a shadow of a doubt. Truly outstanding.

  • I think you can stop looking Yoni...No where in this recording...or in any other for that matter is the great Mario Lanza off pitch and to even suggest such a thing is laughable.............

  • @mroneoftheguys Well said. Mario was the greatest voice in history and forever will be.

  • Grazia, Mario!!!

  • bedankt voor deze hele mooie video Thanks afra1439

  • Mereviglioso!!!!!!

  • GRACIAS!!!

  • Some of us want to hear a great singer singing a great song. Those who nick pik present your piece and astound us with your presentation. I have no time for those who say this or that. Show us your best and be evaluated. And we will see what you have to say you can deliver. And we will evaluate your presentation.

  • I think when it comes down to the delivery of the song. Us mere mortals enjoy what is presented and it is good.

To take it further perhaps those who have something to say can give us a presentation of their example of the piece and enlighten us with their deliverance they deem as being perfect.

Life is not about being perfect but touching those arouind you and I feel Mario did that. I love this and I believe no other can deliver The way he did..

  • Mario Lanza off-pitch.... ahahahahah!!

  • Towamba isn't completely wrong...the pitch is not always perfect, and at 1.13 for example he's very sharp. Actually I never heard these kind of pitch problems from Mario, I really believe he has a wonderful voice. He was a great singer.

  • @Towamba Really? He's off pitch? Please tell me where in this recording he is off pitch and I'll gladly check the score and check.

  • @Yoni89 The melisma's sound "off pitch" because they aren't as fluid and smooth as some singers IMO. That's probably what he means.

  • @Yoni89 he repeatedly is off pitch during the piece.

  • @Yoni89 The thought of Lanza being off pitch is hard to fathom given his insane drive for perfection!

  • towamba, get your ears checked, and at the same time your head too. this is the voice..

  • IDIOT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Idiot... or musician?

    Idiot... or chromatic tuner?

  • @Towamba u must be tone deaf then, because i've been brought up with this for over 30 years and i have never ever heard him sing a note out of place !!!

  • @Towamba yer jealous. He was a great singer. I know because I dont care much for Opera singing. But his voice was natural and unaffected and very distinctive- that is very rare for Opera. Who cares what he looked like. He was an ugly guy or anything. Most people would give anything to sing like that.

  • my mum has her funeral tomorrow and she is having this song as she is brought into the church then the lords prayer then i walk with god as they take her from the church i love and miss you so much mum r.i.p x x x x

  • Caruso, Gigli, Lanza, Bjorling

    Four of a kind!

  • @pepys1633 Very good choice .Gigli singing mama pure class.

  • Only 1 word can describe this. PERFECTION.

  • @bigttim1 ..how right U are!

  • One of the maybe dozen of great voices of the 20th Century. He appeared only twice on the operatic stage. What a shame that he got caught up in the movie industry and abused his gift with food and alcohol..

He will remain forever young and at the height of his powers.

  • Thanks to all of you who aren't as old as I, and still can feel the same as I do each time I hear Mario sing. Some argue about who was the greatest tenor. When all is said and done it doesn't matter. Does the singer take you to that place out of time and space ? Do you see/feel the joy, love, respect that the great songs deserve ? Mario died when I was only 8. If you sing at all (and enjoy it) then you know that the greatest singer is the one who loves to sing for the sake of the song.

  • I was 12, and I know my mother worshipped him. She was heartbroken when he died. She instilled a love of good music in me. 50 years later I'm rediscovering his sweet, powerful tenor.

  • Outstanding, there'll never be another Mario Lanza..

  • This is the kind of music that transcends the limits of space and goes beyond the reach of old age.

  • @zeus9002 Mario Lanza was quite simply the greatest singer of alltime. His voice was made in Heaven. This is quite simply perfection.

  • @bigttim1 Yep, agreed 100%.

  • @bigttim1 I couldn't have said it better. Nor could anybody else.

  • very touching song sung with such a lovely voice. my mum almost bursts into tears when she listens to this song

  • Fantastic, breathtaking, and unbelievable rendition of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Lanza and Pavarotti, my two favorite tenors. 500 stars. Pete.

  • Lanza, Caruso, Pavarotti... Que sigue???

  • @idl4587

mark vincent? de australia's got talent...tiene 15 años, pero es increible!

  • I'd like to address bacassa. You stated that Lanza made 7 movies, but actually he made 8 of them. The one you may be missing was the only non MGM movie he made. It was "Serenade" made at Warner Brothers. It is in my opinion, his best. He was the greatest.

  • zo mooi, zijn geen woorden voor. voor mij de kampioen. Janny van Hoorn( 87 jaar)

  • Not only his voice, but also the feeling... I was in love with him when I was 10, a movie... what movie was it? And yes, God bless you, my darling Mario

  • Besotted by the beuty of his voice . If he only could have excerciced control of his life, sad .

  • such a great tenor voice

  • Mario L. (according to a TV ad I recall from the 1970s) sang lead for a medieval (or Baroque) era choral piece who lyrics began something like "...Men of France around us...break the chains that bind us...to Hell with Burgundy!..." The latter 'Burgundy' referring to the principality of Burgundy that for a time threatened (with the aid of Britain) to overthrow the nat'l French gov't during the 100yrs war. I can't say thankful I'd be to hear (again) this song after so many yrs by Mario himself.

  • Absolutely beautifull he was the best.

  • He made 7 movies i have them all they are very good thx Mario wish i could met you, way to young though

  • Remarkable tenor. The best. Thanks for your gift to us Mario.

  • totally agree with you no one has even came close to comparing with the maestro. Mario was the greatest voice in history and will never be forgotten as long as the fans like ourselves keep introducing music lovers to him. God bless you Mario.

  • I've started voice lesssons and am finding it hard to roll my Rs so someone reccommended this song as a way to learn how to do it. I hadn't really heard of Lanza before now but he is an amazing singer.... fingers crossed he'll teach me how to roll my Rs!!!

  • He was a great tenor! his voice is timeless.

  • he is in good fitness was he a sportman?

  • Boxer

  • He only trained he never actually boxed

  • he was self taugt and the best tenor EVER.

  • @narf410 He was not self taught, but he is definitely one of the best tenors ever.

  • @Yoni89 well,he was THE best...

  • @Yoni89 Jesus, really? He is one talented individual.

  • @SkeletonFrankChannel I did say, not self taught. :P
