I saw this production at the Met a couple of years ago with Jonas Kaufmann and Netrebko. It was a wonderful evening. Both in great voice. An unforgettable evening. I hope they bring it out on DVD sometime soon with either Alagna or Kaufmann. It is a great production, doing justice to the story.

Traviata - Ms. Netrebko displayed an ample power, coloratura bravura with a marvelous tone Having recently heard Natalie Dessay sing Sempre Libera at the Met Gala, one was impressed by the legato nature of Netrebko's portray in contrast to Dessay's intentional staccato, fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to the bel canto opera.

Both Netrobko and Alagna not only ace the acting but reach heart-stirring depths of beauty with the generous dose of what sounds like true love embodied in their vibrant and yet not vibrato-laden voices. They sound lovely both alone and together!
Villazon is awful compared to anyone else to be honest. You just have to see his gaping maw and wild eyes and you're put right off him. Of course, if Villazon went and learnt how to sing without destroying his voice on every note, he might have been a pleasure to listen to. Sadly, bad technique ultimately means a poor performance.
Alagna,s Romeo by far superior than villazon. I have heard both live in this role, Alagna in this very production at Met. The problem I have with villazon is severely sung and act like sexual predator.

First I must say that I don't really like Alagna, but Anna is my favourite soprano. The idea with the bed "flying" a few meters over the stage floor is fantastic ! It creates a very intimate feeling ! If Rolando sang the Roméo it would have been a really perfect production ! =)
Her diction is DREADFUL. Has she EVER learned French? Angela Gheorghiu's French isn't perfect either....but she is MUCH better than Netrebko. And she has REAL chemistry with Alagna and doesn't turn every character into a slut.
