  • You have way too much money.

  • @5440Borderline My sm and my sebenza both get carried and used, I'm by no means rich at all. They both have scratches, they're by no means works of art, and their creators will tell you that. They're both very functional tools.

  • If it doesn't, you should probably be using a different tool for the job. Just my thoughts. The same can be said for cars and watches among other things, but then again, you don't always have to spend a huge amount of money to get solid performance. I guess it's all about perspective and if you can justify it to yourself at the end of the day.

  • I'll stick with my $120 ZT 0200. Still has excellent materials and ergos, locks up solidly every time. I don't really see the point in a $500 folding knife because it's just a fancy tool. The more you spend, the more hesitant you will be to actually use it for anything. I know that if I spent that much on a knife, it would just sit in a display case, because it's more a work of art than anything else. Really, a $30 will do all of your cutting tasks just fine.

  • Is it worth the materials? Probably not. 2 slabs of thick titanium and "high end" steel is expensive, but not anywhere near 400-700 dollars. Do you need titanium or super steel anyways? No Stainless steel may not look as nice but is more practical and cost efficient- but some people like titanium which I understand, so buy a new ZT knife. There is no need for a super steel considering every sharpens their knives for fun, even when they are already razor sharp. In my logical opinion, not worth it

  • i have a $7.00 Gerber Mini Paraframe, and this thing is indestructible

  • In other words. NO. It's not worth it. I guess it all depends how much 500 dollars is in your pocket. Since productions cover the entire spread of quality and steels and construction methods you cannot tell me that only a custom would do for durability, functionality and quality. Your buying to brag and nothing more. Nothing wrong with that just don't fool yourself that it will last you any longer that a mid to a high end production knife made with a super steel.

  • Everything in life is the same -- to get to the next level increase of precision the dollars are the square of the increase same as cars doubling the horsepower does not double your top speed To go to a top speed to 200 mph you need to increase the power from 200 to 800 and the cost of the car goes from 30 grand to 200 grand

Knives are no different -- a $5 dollar Chinese knife will cut an apple but if a hot chick cuts it the taste is so much better --

    perception and quality are important

  • totally. i started out with some cold steel, ka bar folders, gerber, all those brands. then i wanted to step up, so i got a benchmade 8600 bedlam. that was my favorite knife, bar none, nothing else compared to it. so i got another benchmade, a zt, a microtech and some emersons. still love em, especially the emersons. then i got my first strider in yesterday. after i put a better edge on it, wow. if your hesitant due to the $400-$500 price tag, go for it if you can, youll end up spending that

  • @ibesteadymobbin92 on multiple "lower end" blades anyway, i feel if you collect knives, you should definately try out a strider, my next buy will probably be an umnumzaan when im at my new job. but despite the fact that there are things that set them apart, remember, at the end of the day, its still a cutting tool. if you wanna sell off a few blades to cover it, thats fine, thats what im doing (check my channel), but dont sell your favorites because it really wouldnt feel worth it as much. imo

  • +1 a practical take on utility knives. dont understand the need to build high precision into a tool purpoused for a variety of tasks in a pinch. as a craftsman i've 1 precision tool for a single task. i see people buying junk engineered "multi tools" to do a poor job of a variety of tasks or precision tools for multiple tolerant tasks. it's like it's always opposite day. because of that trend in society when i need a non precise tool it always costs way more than it should.

  • PS- no offense dude but the Citizens watch is as you said- practical and worthless. A Rolex bought with a USA warranty and proper sale papers will sell for MORE than you paid for it 5 to 10 years from now if you ever need quick cash as I have had several steel & gold Submariners over the years and each time I sold them it was for $700 to $1200 MORE than what I paid. And the bracelet and watch polish up to look as new by any qualified jeweler. I do wear a Victoronix on the weekend- nice n tuff.

  • Nice knife collection. I am not familiar with Sebenza folder blades. Personally, I prefer Microtech OTF's dual edge serrated, Pro-Tech's Godfather auto's, SOG Trident for around the yard and Spyderco (one of the most underrated blades for practical daily use-serrated) and Spyderco's knife sharpener system which puts an edge on all my blades to where they will shave hair off your hand/arm, and sadly-put a wicked nice deep cut in your finger if you neglect to use the brass protection guide rods!

  • Nice collection I am still to poor for the sebenza lol.

  • dammit i thought a sebenza would get me all the ladies

  • I appreciate higher end knives but doubt I'll ever get one seeing as I tend to use my knives "pretty hard" and I need em to be replaceable and easy to maintain.I just accidentally ended up with a collection after trying so many different types and getting some for historical sentimental value. After spending quite a bit of money I ended up with a $30 utica and buck stockman for edc and a $20 kabar dozier for work.

  • To me its not worth it, CR knifes are for collectors or people who want to brag about how much there CR knife better then yours is because they paid XXX more for their knife then you did, mean while all your doing is making CR richer. and as far as the pivot/fit and finish/tolerances are just as good in the mid to high end Spyderco's benchmades, and kershaws. So yea i will stick to buy 3,4,5 knifes then just 1 CR knife. Oh has anyone seen Noss4 Review of the CR Green Beret and how easy it broke

  • Totally agree with your logic and attitude towards these tools, inlcuding your watch. I have a Casio watch worth $15 bucks. Why buy anything better when all it does is tell time? Why buy a high-end knife when all it does is cut like any knife? My $30 spyderco does just as well as my sebenza.

  • ill ill stick with my kershaws and benchmades

  • i went to look at the Sebenza and the Spyderco Sage 2 thinking I really wanted the titanium (and the killer blade steel). I walked out with the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Not only was I not disappointed, I was stoked that I didn't waste all that money. I like the PM2 WAY MORE! In my estimation the PM2 deserves all-time great status. thx, Solo

  • I'm in need of a good edc, got one you want to trade ?

  • I find it more suitable for collectors...it just aint practical to buy such an expensive knife for normal use that can be done with other knives at a much lower price. Unless they really know how to appreciate it, no point buying one. After all, we dont rely on one knife forever rite?

  • If anyone gave me a knife like that as a gift, I wouldn't be underwhelmed by it.

  • It is like bying a print of a painting in a nice frame & bying a signed numbered copy, you may get one for $100 & the signed version for $1000. I am a new collector of edged weapons (1.5 years) and started with $25 or so blades, now I am buying $ 100 or so blades, in the future I would love to own blades from well known kinfe/sword makers, but as to usefulness my Cold Steel/Ka Bars/SOG's will do quite well or better than a $500+ blade yet my collection will need high end blades

  • ill break that knife with my cold steel recon tanto!

  • I think my OCD is kicking in watching this video everytime they tip over and you pick em up Its driving me nuts LOL anyone else? haha

  • Great Vid man!

  • Sweet knives! Really wish I had one but would never buy one, sorry I just can't see paying that much for a tool, like buying a 400 dollar screwdriver(dumb comparison but it can be way more useful than a knife too many people but you don't really see high end custom screwdrivers). I can however see the collectible aspect of owning a $400 dollar knife, just not the "useful" aspect, when a sub $100 dollar knife can work as good or better for most cutting tasks. Guess I'm not a knife nut lol :P

  • You can buy a gun for that money, I'd feel safer walking around then. But I don't know if you use those knives for self defense.

  • After trying one of these, in comparison in handling the differences are there where you can feel the quality

As the above response mentioned there are diminishing returns going higher end but the differences are noticeable, just up to personal wether or not its worth it/ affordable.

  • Sebenzas are way overpriced for a "custom" knife they are regular fucking knives no over build for strength no nice new design and it cost chris reeve $80 or less to make so think about that next time you think about buying a knife

  • in my opinion, those are not worth the money, there are better knives that offer a lot more and cost far less than these, if i was going to pay $500 for a knife I would get a Strider, Ontario, extrema ratio or any other hard use knives, i would never spend $500 on an EDC knife, AGAIN, this is just my opinion

  • this is my opinion so don't get bitchy on me guys

it isn't worth buying an expensive quality knife if you don't have much experience with one, start off with the cheaper ones and when you learn to use them in their full potential go and buy an expensive quality knife so that you can get the most out of it

  • 500 bucks?????? im gona stick with my delica.......

  • I have a civilian in my pocket

  • damn... those are some expensive dominoes! lol man ever since i bought my sebenza 21 it has to be pry'd from my hands

  • so is it worth it lol? way to repeat yourself for 10 mins : D

  • if anything people that are looking into a sebenza should look into a Bradley "alias" it has the exact same handle titanium and the exact same S30V blade steel with the same RC hardness on it for less than the price of a CR knife and give them the feel of a CR knife to better tell them if the CR is what they really want

  • I really want the Umnumzaan and XM-18 i have more then enough money but i don't do it YET ;) every time i want to buy the hinderer it' s sold out lol that sucks...

  • title question'' to a millionaire its peanuts ,, to me ,it's a rip off price

  • Man, i would love to buy one of those knives for my graduation

  • custom knives are not worth it

  • are custom knives worth it? lol

  • @teameymelli1 usually...HELL NO

  • You guys know me? Really?

  • Man, great review, I know how you feel man. when I got my first used Victorinox swiss army knife used for 7 dollars. I appreciated the quality and materials put into the knife.

  • I appreciate the honesty and advice.

  • Have you seen the recent post in the CRK forum on BladeForums where a guy lists ten reasons why CRK is the Rolex of knives? It's a great post and well written. I think you'd enjoy it.

  • @jeffersontool can u post the link? i cant find it

  • nice ! would you not change the screws around so the shony side is on the face side of the knife??

    i envy your collection bro

  • in all the videos i've watched, i never see anyone flick a chris reeves knife out for fast deployment. is this because the smooth action makes you want to savor the opening, or does something about the knife actually make that form of opening difficult?

  • May I also say that the damascus in that knife is less-than amazing. I used to sell sword at gun shows, high quality 1200$+ swords made by a master swordsmith. He told me that the tighter the pattern on the damascus, the higher the quality.

  • Some of the best shit I have ever heard regarding Sebenzas. Amazing knives but at the end of the day, it's a knife. For the materials used, you can get a great quality knife at a cheaper price. You could buy a ti-millie for half the price of a Sebenza. Spyderco has amazing quality control and they make amazing knives. If you want to drop the dough then do it just make sure you think it over because 400+ is a lot to spend, it's very nearly a glock.

  • I went from Etched Cricket-Mini Barrage-Helle Fjellkniven-Endura 4 FFG-Large Sebenza 21 hehe.....

  • i like your lanyards...did you make/tie them?

  • what happens if you lose it?

  • Printing instructions- A3 size sheets, single fold in the middle, the first page should be the page with the headline "iVent101 Quick referance Sheet"

  • Good advice here. Also, the watch analogy was spot on, in terms of individual values.

  • yea man that is what i am doing jus saving up to get my first sebenza looking for a large 21 but great video and cant wait until i can save up money to get my first CRK

  • Made a response vid, pretty much agreeing with all of these points.

  • I've been debating on getting a Stryder/Sebenza and selling off some of my knives

to get them. I did it for nicer balisongs. But I appreciate balisongs a lot. Good

    vid and good points.

  • Great video with a great piece of advice. I think that the analogy of wine works. Unless you know what to look for...the distinctions...a knife is just a cutting tool. By the way, you can score brand new Sebenza 21's at True North Knife for $385. And they are worth every little cent!

  • Thanks for all the kind words :)

  • Sage advice, indeed. That really sums it up well.

  • You pay from A to A+

  • A very good, mature video.

  • I really hate you for posting this vid. I have been on the fence about purchaceing a Senenza for a few months now, and you make a great point with regard to resale value. Theft or loss would really hurt though .....

  • I completely agree. :)

  • I really enjoy your philosophical videos. If anyone is concerned about being underwhelmed with a Senenza, I would suggest the Wilson Startac Umnumzaan. I guarantee that no one will be underwhelmed with this knife.

  • Beautiful knives and I have to say I agree with you!

It took me a collection of about 40 knives before I decided to shoot for my first Sebenza. Saved up bought the small NIB and liked it so much I did sell a ton of knives that weren't getting used to fund a Large 21 used. Still like many of my production knives and still want many production knives.

    The sickness.

  • i agree with you 100%

right now the large micarta is on my list!

  • why is every video in the side bar porn?

  • @nodnarbian Solo put "porn" in the video tags :)

  • Totally agree with you on this one...

  • Sebenzas are functional art made for "knife guys." Just like you can get a Mitsubishi Evolution that goes as fast as a Ferrari for less than 25% of the price, it's still not a Ferrari. In other words, the Sebenza is not just about functionality--it's about aesthetics too, and that's what costs you. It's probably not going to perform any better than a Para-Military. It's like a Glock vs. a custom 1911--do you want something that just goes bang every time you pull the trigger, or something that

  • @wcropp1 also looks good while it's doing it? I hope to own a Sebenza one day, but I know I don't "need" one. My biggest fear is theft/loss--can't fix that. I'd definitely use one though. And yea, buying used is probably the way to go. Thanks for the video.
