Damn.. This is real rock n roll. Mike Cooley can write some killer songs. I dont no what my life was before i found the DBT but man am i thankful that i finally did. The south fuckin rules
Saw DBT at Nateva this year and this song alone made my whole festival. Cooley just has that blue-collar look when he plays. Simply perfect for this kind of music.
I went stumblin through the fog tryin to find a reason for the things I told her. She woke up Sunny-side down and I was still thinkin I was to proud to flip her over.
I'm going to tell you what: this is brilliant and I don't care if you are a drunk or an esteemed literary critic, but if you know anything about being alive in America you know this is the real deal. Trill recognize trill.
I love this performance. I've tried to catch them live but always miss 'em. Most music - if you want to call it music - these days is pure crap. Bands like DBT renew my faith in music. As a 46 year old Southerner, they speak to me!
.. and it might surprise you, but i'm a prairie boy from Saskatchewan, Canada and this stuff is gold to me too! I LOVE THIS BAND, please tour canada sometime. :)
Songs of the disinfranchised, marginalised, songs for and by people who go unheard - you don't hear that more fool you. They are both literary and smart.
Incidentally, did you know both frontmen have masters in literature (and Isbell a BA in History). They're probably the best educated band in America... and they rock.
I completely get where BOTH of you are coming from.
I can see the tie-in to The Smiths with the whole literary rock thing. The Smiths music got eaten up by hipsters and people of that sort while the country and indie crowds now seem to be embracing the Truckers.
I'd now like the time to point out that Cooley and Isbell are easily the best two singers in the band... or were, now that Isbells gone.
I saw the two Dirt Underneath shows in San Francisco, and they have taken a huge leap forward. I love Jason and hated seeing him go, but rest assured the DBTs are still in great shape. Best band in all of the land. And the Stroker Ace is the man!
cooley and hood are the best!! FUCK ISBELL

get a grip.... your description could easily fit norwegian black metal bands as well.. Do they sound like the smiths??
Does the fact that both frontmen have masters in literature make their music sound the same??
the smiths and dbt are two different worlds...
