You can't compare something that just came out with ba web browser that's had countless updates over the past 3 years... That's not a good representation of both browser speeds. Get an original ipod touch from 3 years ago UN-Updated, and put it against the Zune Browser, I bet they'd be about equal.
zune hd is pretty effin sweet. not gonna lie.

Look closely on the far left of the Zune HD close to the edge of the screen under the back arrow, star and search icons, that is the status bar.
