  • Dear transit Watchers,In my Opinion,We have RTS` in Amherst, and they RE BETTER,PLUS THE BACK DOORS STICK OUT,NOT SLIDE TO THE SIDE

  • @MrStarwarsinc RTS 03's usually have sliding rear doors but the later RTS Buses all have fold out rear doors. Green Lines in New York had 15 RTS 03's which all had sliding rear doors and other RTS 03's I've seen on the web had the same kind of doors but the RTS's you're talking about are 04 and 06.

  • The Worcester (MA) Regional Transit Authority still has a bunch of these, but of a latter model with a wheelchair lift.

  • THAT hows i remember my RTS II sounding. Had a nasty growl to it! 8068 was one of my other faves

  • Back door??? wonder why brakes aren't locked down when rear door is open.

  • @Transitrider - Yeah it seems the rear door interlock has been disabled for this use which would not be surprising at all.

  • Does it have a Wheel chair lift

  • Nope. Neither of MTA's two sets of RTSs had W/C Lifts installed. It didn't become a standard feature for most buses until the mid-80s

  • @LPenn0505 some states didn't require all buses in a fleet to have wheel chair lifts till at least the early to mid 90's. before then you had to request a wheel chair bus if you needed one.

  • Ha i remember the silver caps, they dont use those no more here in NY

  • i wonder if that destination sign still works.

  • Nope, all faded blocks

  • if it takes that dam long to pump up the air, he has a serious leak somewhere....

  • But doesn't it sound great :)

  • @Nabinut

that it does though. Brings back fond memories of the days Cleveland had their 1979 and 1980 RTS's rollin the streets wit 8V71s.

  • this looks like an ex Baltimore MTA RTS. Maybe a survivor.

  • It is an ex-MTA RTS, presently owned by the agency

  • The 8v71 engines sound the greatest on the GMC RTS II!!

  • I remeber back in 1992 my mom took me my sister and brother on a trip to Long Beach on the Blue Line. I remeber Long Beach operated a 35' RTS that look like (you could tell it used to be a slopeback), and I remeber in down town Long Beach seeing and hearing that (or one that looked like it) and it did not sound like a normal RTS, it had to have had a 8v71 in it. It had a fast take off also!!

  • Very Nice Video My Friend. Where was this recorded at and how often do you have these gatherings?

  • This was recorded at last year's bus roadeo. The system is the city I live in does this every year (except this year) so hopefully it'll be running next year

  • do you know when the mta is going to have the next one

  • Man I miss these RTS 03s (300-316 series) in Lansing Michigan CATA.

  • that's a '78? looks very modern!

  • Yeah, modern enough to be produced for nearly 30 years.

  • you know what I really HATE Pittsburghs Transit Authority why cant we keep old buses like you guys do...I am soooo moving.

  • And Im so mad at Pittsburgh PAT that they got rid of the GMC RTS, Orion Vs, Now they are getting rid of FLx Metros and Nova Classics (My Favorites). I cannot believe y'all got those creepy 35 ft Gillig Phantoms.

  • @PATJonesy i don't even live in Pittsburgh! and i agree. Let's all rent an Apartment in Boston. they still got some RTS buses. also Disney, REALLY knows how to take good care of their buses.

  • the rear looks that it should be slanted but instead it looks like it has an extra part

  • This series as well as many of the RTS 03 Models were later retrofitted with kits to improve A/C production and made them all looks like the 04 models

  • oh kk

  • @Nabinut Green Lines was one of those that were retrofitted but the back where there's the vent on black was shorter leaving a big white gap between the bottom half of the bus and the vent unlike RTS 04's which had that whole area covered.

  • The transmission for the RTS bus is actually Allison V730 if I'm not mistaken... But anyway, great video!

  • This bus was involved in a fire later in its service life so the transmission was changed to a V731

  • Oh, okay. Thanks for the correction!

  • This is actually a 1979 model T8H-603, and its serial # is 122.

  • Thanks for the correction. It was always assumed to be a 1978 model.

  • Well, the initial delivery started in December of 1978 and continued through March of 1979.

  • Now this is what I'm talking about. An RTS bus thats 8V71 powered. Wooooow!!!

  • That's the exact reason I love this bus.

  • Cool man the Detroit 8V71, and 8V92 engines are my most favorite engines for buses. They sound real hardcore!

  • Oh yeah MARTA used to have Neoplans N416A Bus Models from 1981-1996. Man they sound like bus here, but those Neo that the toughest roars

  • is this a 6v71?

  • Nope...bettter, 8V71

  • Still got any hopes on getting 3336 when they put her out to pasture?

  • Yeah, I do. Looks like it might be awhile since 8830 didn't work out
