DNF would have been great if they just kept the old school gameplay and map levels. It would have rocked! Then again if they were able to do that, the game would have been 30 or 40 gigs in size. I don't think the game devs are ready for that just yet.

@thursday21987 I hear ya man, i am a Duke fan too and it really broke my heart to see what DNF ended up as. I have a feeling that it didn't really take them 12 years. I think for 6 of those 12 years they literally left it on the shelf to gather dust untill another dev team picked it up. It probably also took a couple of years to switch engines in mid development. So we waited 12 years for a game that really took them about 4 years to develop. But even after 4 years it should have been better.

@blarson12 Dude, what do you expect? Any.. I repeat.. ANY console game of any generation will suck when ported to consoles. Memory limitations make it impossible to have big expansive levels, lots of them, with no loading screens, and shit tons of monsters on screen.

With duke 3d you could literally just make one giant room with 200 bad guys and it ran. You CAN'T do that anymore. Days of good fps are over.

@HandyMan101 Thats simply not true. You can have a great FPS without tons of enemies in one room. The devs just need to get up to speed with what gamers want. Duke3D Atomic Edition had 3 episodes in one game, that was one of the strong points of Duke3D. Todays games feel like half a game compared to Duke3D. Even one episode of Duke3D was longer than todays FPSs. DNF was spoiled by devs that tried to make it something that its not. They left the old school gaming out and it made the game suck.

@blarson12 Yes. and that's my argument. part of old school gaming was lots of levels, huge expansive ones, and tons of enemies with lots of weapons.

You can't do that on current generation consoles because of hardware limitations.

You can pass through these walls, but they're very distracting while trying to play the game. So, I'm lost and no longer sure what to do. If you could at the very least give me an order of how things should be loaded, maybe that would help. I got Duke 3d (full), Polymer(hrp), Polymer(mhk), dn3d(hrp5sfx), eduke32, and dukeplus.

Hey, I've been having all sorts of problems trying to get this to work. My first few attempts failed. Eventually, I threw all the downloads I could find and shoved them all together.

Well...that actually semi-sort of worked. But it's seriously glitched. The hi-res works, but every time I try to shoot, or something blows up, or some kind of effect these 'green walls' appear (I'm not kidding...looks like one of the walls from the alien ship). (cont..)

@fujisan92 Naw, it was just a shout-out to the bad-ass game that inspired them to make this bad-ass game in the first place. If you have ever played the DOS game "Blood" (which is another bad-ass game, if not extremly under-rated.) , it also has a level with a secret where the main character "Caleb" finds Duke-Nukem mutliated, hanging upside down by chains. If you decide to stab him with your pitchfork, "Caleb" says "Shake it baby."
