I'm helping because I am a Believer. Very enjoyable. Children of The MOST HIGH GOD, now is not the time to be afraid to lift JESUS, because just like we need HIM, there are so many more that are in need. I know you can tell. As far as I am concerned, this is another hit for these laborers in GOD's KINGDOM.
Go ahead children, all of you must be rejoicing in Heaven. Thank you for leaving these great songs behind. And thank you for bringing back these precious memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They Do Not make Gospel Music Like this Today. Oh my God, Thank you Ms Dorothy Love Coates and The Original Gospel Harmonettes for your Faithfulness to the Word of God! Rest In Peace Ms D-
I have been a Dorothy Love Coates fan since I was a young girl. I'm just an old white lady but she rocks my soul and makes me believe. She's the best. Reminds me of some of the gospel that I've heard in the New Orleans jazz festival-the stuff by the people out in the country churches in the south. It lifts my soul.
I wished I could have met Dorothy before she passed. I'm 28 years old in Alabama, and love every one of their songs. I've always felt they deserved more credit than what they got. I mean my God, people still sing these songs in church today, including me. I know she'll get her pay on that great gettin up mornin.
Well let me help everyone out and educate about this song. When this song was recorded in the studio in March of 1959, all the girls were using the same mic, except Aunt Dot. The leads were shared together. This is why the voices seem like they have a echo behind them. And Sis. Odessa Edwards is singing 1st lead on this song, with Sis. Willie Mae Newberry rendering the chorus after her. For those of you who didn't know Sis. Willie Mae in her younger days, her voice was not always deep.
hey snowman - how are you ? It's been a very long time since I've been able to listen and respond on this site. Did you ever find the PBS video of aunt Dot ?
I'm sorry but the first lead is willie mae newberry, then odessa edwards, next is mildred miller, then finally dorothy love coates in that order...keep posting
Odessa is first lead. Willie Mae "Biddy`" Newberry is second lead. Then Mildred. Finally Dot, whose voice is so close to the mike because she was also playing the piano.
@jddrew1000 No. Evelyn was not on this session. The album cover shows all the members but not Evelyn. Also, frankly, Evelyn was a much more elegant pianist than Dot, which that great singer would be the first to admit. She was such a good trouper that she filled in for the occasion. She can be heard playing piano on many of their later recordings, most notably all the solos ("You've Been Good to Me," etc.)
Thanks for your info. I honestly didn't know if that was Mildred on the second verse or if it was Odessa singing in a higher key....Mildred sounds really different. That's why I only listed two leads.
i love this song...but there was a vid with CISSY HOUSTON with the drinkard sisters but i think someone said its NO LONGER AVAILABLE...i want that so bad!
