i have a friend with a 4440 and they turned it up to around 230hp and they had to rebuild their tranny because they burnt up clutch packs in their powershift tranny and they are still having problems with it because it is turned up so much, so i think 170hp is all the further i would go with a 4440
hello nice video and 4440 i am considering turning the pump up on ours to around 145 to 155 horse and need so info. on it. have you had any problems with overheating or excessive black smoke? also where exactly is the "fuel screw" at on the pump and how should we turn it?
so far the tractor stays pretty cool. 165 hp realy isnt asking all that much out of a 4440. i actualy know of a guy that got 230 hp out of his but i think thats kind of pushing it a little. If you dont know how to turn up your pump dont mess with it. We never do it our self either. We had a John Deere mechanic turn ours up and then we ran it on a dyno to make sure we had everything the way we wanted it before we worked it in the field.
thanks! yeah it sure does we turned the pump up on it some. Its was running about 165 hp when we had it on the dyno before we brought it home. I thought I was going to give the 4240 an easier life till the pto clutches went out on my big MM that I use for the bagger. So now I have it on the bagger and its getting worked prety hard now. I might just take a few days and fix the MM, the corn here is still plenty green to be chopping.
My grandpa used to have a 4440,4430,4230
3020,4020 but he sold them when he sold the cows expect for the 4020 which we use on our farm now

well i just dont know about putting 165 hp through a tranny built for 130hp. Do 4440's use the same turbo as the 4640's and 4840's?

There's nothing like the sound of a John Deere 4440 turbo charged diesel engine being revved up to go chop corn silage!

yes i agree 165 is probably the highest we would want to turn it due to it being alot of preasure on a tranny designed for 130 horse.
