A dog is not a Honda Civic - something you can buy and modify the way you want. It's a living highly intelligent creature with a nervous system just as sensitive as yours. It needs its tail and ears to communicate and for balance. A word to you - If you don't like the looks of a Doberman as they are when they're born, don't get a Doberman. Stop abusing and mutilate these animals to feed your own ego.
@TranceFlug "the dog don't have a expirience" < TranceFlug just said... our country is doomed if this is the future generation. please, please learn how to read and write.
@smasci I don't mind you pointing out the appalling grammar and spelling of others, (drives me nuts as well) but you should make sure they are from where you think they are from. (Usually easy to look up) In this case, Trace is from Serbia, so English is a second language for him.
@chaoscleaner Good point. My wife is from Belarus, so I totally get it. I had just had enough bad grammar for the day. I don't usually lash out like that unless well deserved. Tell Trace my apologies. His English is far better than my Serbian. ;-)
dont know about anyone else, but i would like a guard duck. just imagine the reaction of a robber having a duck thrown in their face by surprise wings flapping and all, giving you enough time to hit them with a bat or something. it would totally shut down the brain for a second
@moOswe And man did they screw his ear crop up. I have two dobies and decided to leave their ears natural for fear the crop would turn out something like this.
@DrBiochemGuy The ear crop is exactly the way we wanted it. Can't stand that bat ear look. The natural look is fine but goes against the whole reason these dogs were bred - as guard dogs. The ears and tail are cropped to make it hard for attackers to grab onto. A far as being fat -yes she is slightly overweight but I wouldn't call her fat.
@DaPoolDaddy Sorry about the rude comments. Sometimes I get carried away. the ears look fine. Its just a matter of preference I guess. I also dont like the show crop or "bat ears" as you say. I like the shorter "medium" crop that is most prevalent in the bread. Your crop is what is referred to as a "military", "pet", or "working" crop and is the shortest of the three variations and most common in pitbulls. I just think dobermans need a bit longer crop to match their stature and long faces.
@woodhousethebutler my dog would have killed this duck in a second...i never teached it anything but when she sees birds she flips out...she becomes somethnig like Hulk!Once she entered in farm and killed 3 ducks and 2 chicken in 3 minutes until i managed to jump the fence and hold her.
@BlissfulMary Both the ducks were pets and didn't fly at all. The doberman was trained not to hurt them but she doesn't know her own strength sometimes.
@BlissfulMary Unfortunately Forrest and Jenny were attacked in the middle of the night by a raccoon about a years ago now. Never under estimate the viciousness of raccoon.
@Lilycha100 im glad my doberman puppy has her tail and ears are not cropped! shes half belgian malinois so her ears will end up sticking up anyways :)
@Lilycha100 docked and cropped with complete sedation - like people have their tonsils removed, breast implants, nose jobs, circumscissons etc etc - how bout mind your own buisness - this dog, obviously, lives a great life that millions of dogs would love to live.
@treeandbush1 I've actually heard of some (odd) people keeping male geese as alarm systems. Those things flip out if someone they aren't used to gets on their turf. Practically deafening.
@starthedoberman0035 The dog knows that if she hurts the duck then I would hurt her. She's very obedient however and I've never actually had to hurt her. The threat is enough. Dobermans, by nature, want discipline and are eager to please. They do better in a family environment rather than owned by a single person. That definitely helps. He seems very determined about something. Ducks don't play like dogs do and I'm surprised about such a mild confrontation (but dogs are the hardest animal for me to figure out). What time of the year was that video made, if you remember?
@Frankster81 The male is very territorial. He really just doesn't like the dog at all and wont leave her alone when they are in the yard together. The dog actually wont go in the yard when the ducks are loose without me beside her.
I think the video was made in September. Not sure though.
@DaPoolDaddy - Ok, thank you. Seems kind of backwards (although I think the doberman was playing with the duck more than anything else). The reason I asked about what time of the year it was is because I thought perhaps it may have been breeding season (whether the drake and hen actually mate or not) although typically that runs about as late as June or July.. I was wondering if the drake was being protective of a nest or something like that. It was just a guess.
@sixfortyninemx The dog knew the ducks since they were just little ducklings. She was made very aware of their how fragile they are. I would trust her with whole heartedly with them. She really just wants to avoid from them unless I'm around. She's not as nice to non-pets though. She understands her boundaries.
@Kusanagi64 Actually, it's the dog that wants to leave. She won't even get off the deck when they are in the yard. They guard the stairs like soldiers and she whines relentlessly until I put them in their pen.

He seems very determined about something. Ducks don't play like dogs do and I'm surprised about such a mild confrontation (but dogs are the hardest animal for me to figure out). What time of the year was that video made, if you remember?
