  • HI FROM SARAH TONER.I LOVE YOUR COVER,GREAT SOUND AND VICALS.THANKS FOR SHARING AND THUMBS UP FROM IRELAND.

PLEASE LISTEN TO MY 1ST COVER.

  • Excellent.

  • An obvious allusion to T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland." Read, you cracker-jacks!

  • If I were a serial killer, I'd be Mickey and Malory

  • Becky made a tape for me....I wish I was with her now....

  • Margo, Hope, Harriet, Alison, and dear Megan. (seem to whisper to me)

  • Throwback

  • Sweet Sweet Margo

  • })i({ now here's my human baseline })i({

  • this is a really good make out song, i don't know why! just is with the tune and everything! love this

  • @oliviami5 yeah it is!

  • @oliviami5 Yes. It is. Like some candles though.

  • LOU REED WAS REALLY HIGH WHEN HE WROTE THIS

  • Hello y'all. I'm Spanish.

  • this was Concrete blond...not cowboy junkies

  • @Murphdogg4 What? Not even close yoyo. CJ..Margo Timmons et al.

  • @Murphdogg4 your wrong

  • @klsstheglrls I know. Concrete Blond also does a version of this song..but this is cowboy junkies.

  • truly their greatest song from their greatest album

  • bluzme,sorry i got your name wrong.

  • bluzem,I think lou reed owns this song and always will.Yet there are always covers. The better the the song, the more covers. Some of them should be against the law and some rise to occasion.Isimply thaught C.Js. showed alot of respect toward lou and his song.

  • This is up there with Plateau by the Meat Puppets in the "wow, I did not see that coda coming" stakes

  • nice music

  • i pity those who believe the original is always the best.i love lou reed but margo really brings an essence of beauty to this song.

  • @Pawlzee "essence of beauty" sure thing, I like it too but there's nothing like the original of this

  • Margo Timmins, she`s a babe

  • Love Lou Reed´s Original, but sweet Margo is the "killer"

  • Brilliant. And lol @ Mickey and Mallory... yep, I understand.

  • NEW STORY: Margo Timmins of COWBOY JUNKIES provides one of the best Wrong Venue stories ever. Read more at The Worst Gig (WorstGig.com).

  • I love it,i promise that no matter what, i´ll always love it n´ i´ll protect it, n´ keep it in my heart n´ never let ´em say bad things about you n´ yor´re BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD, HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME, HOW COULD YOU, YOU´RE BAD!!! ...

  • This song will always make me think of you Piper... hope you, N and C are enjoying life's blessings.

  • makes me love again

  • don't like this version ... but then who the fuck am I to not like a shitty cover of an epic classic ...

  • @AttilaThe1

well not sure if trolling, but i thought it was a very nice bassy version/meloncholic version of the original. but hey, whatever floats your boat, i personally love this version.

  • @AttilaThe1 - Lou Reed said that of all the covers of this song, this was his favorite.

  • Beautiful.

  • Sublime version. Impresionante. El viejo Lou, no puede tener queja alguna.

(Y a 116 personas, no les funciona el audiófono. Pobres)

  • is there anything to add...??

  • She kind of looks like Jim Morrison from a low angle...

  • I'll confess to being blown away by this cover when I first heard it around 1989. I thought it was fantastic.

But I'd never listened to the Velvet Underground before. In the twenty or so years since I've listened to the VU a great deal and sadly concluded that Margo and the Cowboy Junkies had absolutely no understanding of the original.

In my opinion this cover is just all wrong. I know many others feel differently.

  • Its just very nice listen her, and her beautifull voice... doing sweet jane from lou Reed...

  • I actually prefer this version to the original.

  • @Watts660 me too. I like Lou Reed, but this is pure magic.

  • Eu também acho muito legal esta versão para "Sweet Jane" com a Cowboy Junkies.Não vou dizer que é melhor do que a gravação com a Velvet Undergrond, mas é muito boa.

  • I love this version. Best version ever for me.

    Sweet, Jane.

  • the first time I saw NBK I had one reaction: it's a psychotic version of Wild At Heart.

  • Yeah fuck Mickey an Mallory you idiot violence brainwashed punks.

  • Great cover but from 2.25 onwards -heaven. Wish they would do a cover of Heroin.

  • Mott covered this better than CJ did, and they did it without making a poser video.

  • Thumbs up if you got laid to this song

  • Natural Born Killers ruined this song for me.

  • @xxLimbo85xx sounds like poetry

  • lou reed would have to love this.

  • ...SWEET ,SWEET,SWEET ... I LOVE !

  • Mickey: I love you, Mal...

Mallory: I know you do, baby. I've loved you since the day we met.

  • great....

  • Cowgirl radio sent me here.

  • i'm going to see them tomorrow!! yeaaah

  • Sooo smooooooooooooooth

  • About 10 yrs ago i was sifting thru some CD's at the local library(how cool is that!)when i spotted 'Cowboy Junkies' thought, give it a go, purely cos of the bands great sounding name, glad that i did! wow what intuition eh?

  • Drug addiction. Escape.

  • @LuvsChopin Lou did write a bunch of fine songs dedicated to drugs. In fact, Lou's the poet laureate of dope, imo. Some of my fave Lou songs are his dope-inspired ones. But this song is not one of them. This one's about escaping into LOVE of another human being, not heroin or speed!

  • Why the hell does SME restrict this from playlists, worst decision ever!

  • this song is so true... seems like so many forget the message this song conveys, it really is a shame

  • I wish the Junkies had stuck to doing Lou Reed/VU covers. They could have done whole albums of Lou songs & I'd have been happy! 'Cause to me this was their high point, & none of their self-penned songs ever came close. imo, they didn't have the writing talents of a band like say, Mazzy Star, to whom they are sometimes compared, but they sure knew how to arrange & sing a Lou Reed song!

  • Ive been trying to find this song for years!!!!!!!!!!! I never knew who sang it or what it was called and I had only heard once before so no lyric either! I am a very happy camper right now! :D

  • This is pretty amazing

  • nice call

  • 1995 panellinies efivia 17 etwn komatia..

  • COOL SONG !,,,very first time i have ever heard it

  • Thumbs up for Mickey and Mallory

  • @AlkaloidsAreFun Natural born killers!!

  • i wish i had sweet jane but i'm smoke free...

  • so sweet so mellow, takes the edge off..

  • Sweet, Jane.

  • beautiiful rendition of lou reeds classic sweet jane it's beautiful!

  • Snail-paced pro- depressant moanings that makes Jackson Browne sound like a pitchman for Toyota. If your attitude towards life is to burn two candles at the same end, then this shit is definitely for you.

  • Love this song. Soothing to the soul!!

  • thats great !!diamond!!straight to my fav list!!!

  • Great Vibe to this song ! Thx for Sharing

  • sborro nei culetti

  • :)

  • Man, how I have missed the Cowboy Junkies! This song brings back wonderful memories of life in Houston in the early 90's!

  • @jenalbee I would have to say the same. I guess we are both contemporaries from Houston. Love Houston in the 90's and the whole underground music. Cowboys Junkies were great at that place on Westheimer used for small concerts. Great crowd and ambience

  • best version ever...very sweet

  • Way, way, way better than the Metallica version!!

  • mickey and mallory kiss

  • Everyone needs their own Mickey or Mallory

  • The band is so high

  • @ 2:27 the song becomes good.

  • I don't think this version is better than the Velvet underground version. I think they are both very good but different.

  • 108 people will NOT have a song to commit suicide to.

  • @zamusicza a song to commit suicide to. ???? please explain..

  • @witchfrija Just a sarcastic joke and reference....You know how everybody has a soundtrack to there life and you imagine what would be playing? It's a hard comment to explain. Plus there are several literary references in modern fiction to committing suicide to the cowboy junkies or being alone while listening to the cowboy junkies...and one reviewer recently said of their latest CD "if I ever have the courage to commit suicide the CJs will be playing. You either get it or you don't.

  • @zamusicza Tnx for explaining what you meant, en yes, now I get it! And i don't belong to the 108 btw.. however; a beautifull song, loved it since I heard it the first time years ago.. Have a wonderfull day!!! :D

  • @witchfrija That being said keep in mind I'm the biggest CJ fan on the face of the planet. I'm one fan letter away from a restraining order(another joke).

  • @zamusicza LOL!!! slow down with the letters for a while; just call them when you can be pretty sure they are home and sound asleep, believe me they take so much more notice of you!! Been there, done that, even bought the t-shirt!! (this is a joke too :D)

  • The voice is.....

  • Love this song, reminds me of my time in Vancouver

  • ♥♥♥Natural Born Killers ♥♥♥

  • My favorite version of this song....love her voice.

  • One of the most beautiful and mind altering pieces of music ever... Stops me in my tracks every time. I love the Velvet Underground original. This is the Cowboy Junkies own magic.

  • shoegaze

  • this is no lou reed cover. the song sweet jane is by velvet underground and has different lyrics (and music)

  • Then it's a different song :)

  • @VaginalTumor

This *is* a cover of the VU song; Reed used to play w/the lyrics a LOT... and this is one of the most famous versions from the mid-70's.

  • natural born killeRz :) ♥

  • yeah, i like lou reed. but, come on. this is my favorite too

  • get high. play this song. effin siick (:

  • I, I think jane is so sweet. This song makes me high though.

  • 105 people were sober when they listened to this and probably church goers. Poor souls

  • good song

  • The saddest song I've ever heard, the way she sings it. The bridge breaks my heart.

  • Avis à tous les Parisiens : Cowboy Junkies se produisent à Paris (c'est exceptionnel !) au Divan du Monde le 8 novembre 2011. Ne pas rater !

  • this version is AWESOME.

  • I Heart Margo.

  • I listened to them in AnnArbor......

  • Ok, this song should just be enjoyed........don't associate it with some movie, just relax and take it all in......like sipping a good port, no rush ~

  • @cloudsinmyise Well said!!

  • @cloudsinmyise Well put, and planned exactly...Great tune..

  • @cloudsinmyise i HATE it when ppl associate great music w/movies! I never watched music videos either. I never wanted them 2 change my view on a song i loved...thumbs up!

  • I heard this song on an older episode of the original CSI. Ned Beatty played the part of a dentist that had a secret life as a serial killer of young women. This song really did a great job of setting the morbid mood when each poor "Jane Doe" was shown.

  • Great stuff!!.. Sounds like danish band INOUWEE

  • Nico and The Velvet Underground did this 40 years ago, which is the contribution? this is DECADENCE

  • Wow man. typical youtube fury with no provocation. Why do people get so damn upset about watching videos? Um, and BTW Sweet jane WAS in the movie Natural Born Killers, one of my favorites also, i like crazy people cause I can relate. I used to tell the girls, I'll be your Mickey if you be my Mallory.... me and a friend wanted to go on a killing spree like them.... she was soooo cute.... it coulda been fun, but oh well, things change.. anyways, SMILE! ! ! ! Life only gets worse.. :) LOL

  • @glenneveaux ummm wtf?

  • @glenneveaux Who's my Daddy? HAHAHAHAHAHA Not you. My Dad had better manners. Why do you call strangers names like this? Do you hate me? Hell, son, you dont even know me.. HAAHAHAHAAAA And yes Im white. Why does that matter? Where does that apply to any of our comments? And Ive never slept with a black person- sorry dude...... p.s..... You claim 'you know' .... well, pal, you dont know fuckin jack shit about me........ so dont ever assume about me again. This conversation is over .

  • tamerswan YOU MORON!!!!!!!!! this isn't the song from the fucking movie... the 1 u thinking of is some other song u fucking moron.. I wont tell.. lol

  • My most favourite song EVEEEER!

  • Nice. I member when Margo Timmins was featured in Esquire Magazine when this song was out.

  • good cover, but what was all that jewellery being drawn over couches for?

  • I disagree with those who say The CJ's sound like Mazzy Star & Margo Timmins' voice sounds like Hope Sandoval's. ..But I'm forever grateful to some person who once posted such an opinion here, as it led me to discover Hope, now probably my fave singer ever, & Mazzy, now one of my fave bands!

...Judging by the quality of this cover, it's too bad CJ's didn't do a whole album of VU/Lou covers. All those those softer VU songs Nico & Lou sang are ideal candidates for Margo's fine voice!

  • One of the greatest covers ever!

  • love the c junkies ! brings back memories. i miss it. this song says so much

  • mickey and mallory forever !

  • complimenti è veramente bella

  • Definitely..hate spell check

  • I dont care what anyone says, you're definetely a poet...last comment made me lol sooo much, I had to go pee..ty, for that..usually serously bitter..lol

  • Anyone' has ever ate a shroom, wouldn't turn around n' fake it. Anyone' has ever worked a broom, wouldn't claimed to've made it. Sweet Jane Sweet Jane Oha Sweet Mary Jane I am smoking on you down in the alley You are the light, leading me back home Waiting for you down on the corner Gotta meet Tyrone to get stoned Sweet Jane Sweet Jane Oha Sweet Mary Jane Anyone who'as ever had a dream Probably smoked their mind apart When your buddy is feeling lonely Grab your budz and have a heart
  • @FourTwenny lol

  • Love their version...

  • I know this might sound kind of funny, but I didnt hear this on a video game or move, I heard it when it origionally came out and I like it.

  • @bigdsears Same as well

  • you just can't top lou reed.... sorry

  • That's all Terentino. Appeciate Cb for themselves...Although this isn't their best. They have better material.

  • Thanks for posting :)

  • I discovered this beautiful song when I was watching '' The Good Girll'' with Jennifer Aniston. The DVD menu had this song on it and so did the trailor for the movie. I could never find the name of the song until like 3 years later I heard it on the radio an they said the name of it. I rushed down to my record store (when they existed) an purchased ''The Trinity Session'' . Then later appriciated Velvet Undergrounds original version as well.

  • This got to be the best cover of this song so far.

  • insipid

  • @broadstem we get it you dont like it!!! :)

  • souless

  • @broadstem just like your vapid personality, FS.

  • @broadstem soulless, you inept ham-fisted kunt.

  • you know something? badasses dont die mal

  • Natural Born Killers is the best movie of all time. Period

  • hey micky i gotta piss.wana watch?

  • @jakesmalldon Maybe its you that is terrible....ever think about that?

  • @VapoRTraiL111 winning

  • such a thought provoking song

  • Natural Born Killers,..was one of, the most epic artistic films, it's a master piece. I wish more people would understand true art.

  • @orlandovice100 WELL SAID

  • I saw The Cowboy Junkies perform this song soon after it came out. Lou Reed was supposed to be the headliner at the concert, but broke his leg. Margo Timmons started singing Sweet Jane and flubbed the lyrics soon after the start. She stopped the performance, apologized, and then asked "Where is Lou when you need him?" The place went wild and the song was restarted. A classic moment.

  • This song has been in MANY films. I remember it was played in the background of a scene from "Prelude to a Kiss". It's been used in soap operas too. Beautiful song: beautiful rendition of it. TY!

  • NBK is one of Oliver stones Best films

  • LOL Due Date reminded me of this song

  • i like this one .. always reminds me
