All non smokers should give up their cars and trucks to show their concern for cleaning up the air that others breathe . While we're at it lets get rid of all lawnmowers and machinery that pollute the air that people breathe.
No real difference in practical terms between regulating marijuana & marijuana products & regulating tobacco & tobacco products. Unless the Supreme Court were to radically change direction on this issue a federal ban on cigarettes would probably pass constitutional muster. To say that the fed government has the power to ban marijuana, but not cigarettes, is inconsistent; if it has the power to ban 1, it has the power to ban both.
I agree! I do not go to bars however I say bring back smoking in bars. Proven fact there are a lot of people who do not smok at home or in public who do go to bars and while there they do smoke. I also believe there is a way around the smoking in bars ban. Make the bar a smokers bar. State in big leters that the bar is a smoking inviernment and non smokers are welcome but wave there right to complane. I do recoment checking on this first as I am not 100% certin but I believe it is true.
ppl should just accept that there will be smoke in bars .. its been that way forever and the anti smoking lobbies use made up stats to support their cause ... wheres theses dead ppl they are talking about, there is not even any death certificates to prove this .. let the bar owners choose then ppl can go where they want .. smoke free or smoking, everything is smoke free as it is, all that was left was bars and some restraunts, do nonsmokers really need every last place? sounds selfish!!
Great video! I've seen the damage of Illinois' state smoking ban, and hate how these ridiculous laws have spread to so many places. What was so hard with people hating smoke staying out of business that allowed smoking, and/or even supporting smoke-free businesses?
@prfsnlwannabe on the same note...what's wrong with people who smoking staying out of businesses that don't allow smoking? No one is saying that you can't smoke...just where you can. There's a difference. Under your mentality..I could argue that the government has no right to tell me that I can't drink and drive my car. It's my car...I own it and alcohol is not illegal. Who cares if I could potentially kill someone because of it? If you want to drink and smoke at the same time, do it @ home
@shawnperry100676 That's a horrible analogy, and typical tired one that anyone who's very anti-smoking will repeat. Shame on you for saying that, when smoking in a bar and drinking and driving are 2 separate things. First off, drinking and driving is WITHOUT A DOUBT dangerous,is illegal, and I strongly support such laws. OTOH, smoking in bars has never been proven to be dangerous, was shown to be 532-25000 times safer than OSHA standards in an ACS study(from the blog Clearing the Air) (cont'd)
@shawnperry100676 and indoor smoking inside private establishments at best is only an annoyance, not a health hazard. That's why I think clear exterior signage outside each public entrance into businesses permitting smoking, restricting the patrons who can enter or be employed to only adults, and for businesses to clearly disclose their smoking policy to job applicants. In no sort of way, do I hold a mentality that all laws that I dislike should be abolished, more I'm just tired of (cont'd)
@shawnperry100676 how anti-smoking groups have always lied and made up false allegations, in order to get total indoor and/or outdoor smoking bans passed. Enough commenting here, I need a break for now. :)
@KripDrip It helps all former smoker-friendly businesses? Tell that to hundreds of Twin Cities area businesses that suffered under local smoking bans(including the 3 nightclubs that used to exist in Mall of America before Bloomington, MN imposed a local ban), many NYC bars/clubs that've became smokeasies, Ohio bars and other private businesses(Google Smoke Choke Ohio, as I can't post URL links), and all the IL businesses in my state that've been hurt. Sorry Krip, but what you're saying is BS.
@prfsnlwannabe here in Raleigh NC, there is NO COMPLAINING about the ban. And Krip's right, over 80% of our population are non smokers. I guess it has to do with the demographic of the area. My tip average has done nothing but go up. When the ban started it was interesting (and exciting for me, the smoking Nazi) to see new people at the bar saying "this is so nice to sit at the bar and not smell like shit". And for me, not inhaling that shit has been a lifestyle change. I FEEL FUCKING GREAT!!
@Sahadi420 You have to remember that Raleigh-Durham area has a high percentage of transplants that tend to be anti-smoking, and the change in culture of NC lawmakers(versus years ago) was the big reason NC passed a state ban. All I'm advocating for is that each restaurant and bar where employees and patrons are restricted to adults have the choice to decide whether to be a smoking, or non-smoking business.
Sorry sahadi, but you're overlooking NC businesses that've definitely hurt from the ban.
@prfsnlwannabe "All I'm advocating for is that each restaurant and bar where employees and patrons are restricted to adults have the choice to decide whether to be a smoking, or non-smoking business." Isn't that how the law is written?? Bars that are "private" can chose whether they're smoke friendly or not. At least that's what I thought. I'm just glad that after the past year and a half my boss said that the our bar will always be smoke free!!
@Sahadi420 North Carolina's current state smoking law isn't written that way. It requires all restaurants and bars to be smoke-free, and it doesn't cover regular workplaces, nor private clubs. The original version of the smoking ban bill that passed NC's Legislature in 2009, before it was later amended into a total restaurant/bar ban, would've exempted restaurants + bars that chose to go 18 and up. Though of course, before 2010, any adult-only business could've banned smoking on their own.
