This is one of my all-time faves. Second to What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. Found them when I was 12 in a box of VHS in the basement. Instant love. Bette Davis was a queen of the screen, wasn't she? Thanks for posting.

Lee's hand that was cut off was in fact real, according to the documentary they picked it up at a funeral parlor and filmed it in reverse. Also at 9:27 the actor wielding that cleaver must have actually had to cut the hand off with a pretty hard blow. at that time stamp look at the narrow chunk of wood taken out of the table from the cleaver's contact with it!

That cleaver murder must have been pretty damn graphic for '64 given how many graphic thrillers came out then, such as Strait-Jacket with Joan Crawford, also from '64.

wonderful movie. apart from the performances by the two main stars, watch out for a blistering performance from agnes moorehead as the housekeeper. this is powerful stuff.
