  • I fuckin loooooooooooooooooooooove this show!Imma play elphba!!!WATCH!!

  • WTF? Since when did Glinda have a British accent?!

  • i liked kristin better... no offense. i think they had a better blend and they sounded perfect together... now its... still good bc idina is amazing but.. it was brilliant with kristin...

  • NO KRISTIN IS BETTER THAN HELEN!!

  • I dance on this song; just great!

  • i think her voice is so worn off.

    poor Idina

  • She did well considering she was sick

  • My music teacher played this in class and everyone thought Indina was Demi lovato

  • OMG I WATCHED THIS IN SINGAPORE :P

  • @CupcakesAreDaOne me too :)

  • eww...her accent is bad for glindas part...it should have been kristin

  • Not everyone looks good in green. But Willemijn Verkaik (german musicals actress)

  • @Cjutie93 Dutch musical actress also

  • @Rianne4561: Yes. Now! =)

  • ew.. i wish it was Kristin playing G(a)linda

  • Saw "Wicked" last week in London. Fantastic!

  • Who plays Glinda?

  • @Faisal2000ish no Its Idina Mendez

  • Is Elphaba, Lea Michelle?

  • All lea fan should see as many musicals as they can, there are some extraordinary singers out there that can do eight shows a week, for two to three years. They will blow your mind. Idina is one of them. Lea is good on Tv, yet could she do that everytime? I go to see musicals a lot and love live singers.

  • Idina had a really bad cold during this, from what I remember, she made a point of doing this, even though she was off from the show.

  • holy shit I don't get how Idina's voice isn't brutally destroyed. Broadway can be such a bitch to your voice lol. I'm not sure if I'm the only one but Glinda sounds kinda weird :/

  • I'm sorry to say that I'm don't really like the new Glinda, I mean she has a lovely voice that probably would fit anywhere else, but NOT Glinda!

  • haha, i LOVE it!

and the brilliant miss connie talbot made a cover of this :D

please check it out /watch?v=5piSjmC_fWo&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL :D

    thnx :)

  • Rather unfortunate, how Menzel's voice cracks on the last few notes...that said, still a wonderful performance :D

  • I swear I'm not just saying this because I freaking worship Kristin Chenoweth....

....I can't bear to listen to this girl. She doesn't sound Glinda-y at all. D:

  • @xXLilyStRegisXx I have to agree with you. My spine tingles with displeasure everytime I hear her :/

  • wow

  • i totally love the song and vid i just wanna make one comment cause i cant resist....DAMN!!! that witch has got a jaw :D

  • Elphaba is my DREAM role! <3

  • @mariamatt1234 Amen.

  • I like this version, but the version with Kristen Chenoweth is better in my opinion.

  • @chlobosumm4 I totally agree

  • she from glee ?

  • @emilyk1133 yep, season one. she played the role of Rachel's real mother. :)

  • Although I wish Idina hadnt gone and done the london production after her broadway run (because you can tell that her voice has obviously had enough of the show) I feel like she sounded much better here (untill maybe the end) then she did at the tonys

  • @qubrown11 At the tony's she had an asthma attack right before the show, they insisted that she shouldn't do the show but she said she would and did the show even if she had trouble breathing

  • @qubrown11 no she was ill when she did this performance...

  • @qubrown11 That's because before the Tony Awards she had an asthma attack

  • Helen is alright, but after Kristin, no one can really compare. :/

  • kristen chenoweth is better.

  • Is that a microphone set on Idina's forehead?

  • @GOE1415 yes

  • @GOE1415 yea they do that so its not in the way

  • An utterly amazing musical and this song tops the whole thing off. Especially with the effect and flying crane. I've seen this in the westend. A MUST SEE!

  • Helen was great, but I miss Kristen. :(

  • this is such a difficult song to sing

  • From 6:13 I started to think that Idina is a godness.

  • is there like a video of this on cassette or dvd? =] i just have to see this

  • Comment removed

  • is that demi livato?

  • @cheergirl647 are you serious?

  • @cheergirl647 its idina menzel

  • The british accents make me laugh :)

  • They went overboard with the lighting the point of the lights is create the affect that Elphaba is floating like they did perfectly with Stephanie J Block here they just drown it with light so we can barely see Idinia

  • One word AMAZING

  • This has too much feeling and not enough singing. She speaks some of the best parts, she shouts the high bits, doesn't sing forte when it's climactic near the beginning and just made me wonder how she got the role. Their duetting is awful, too. They clashed and didn't always sing in tune with eachother. The higher harmony part was yelled.

Kerry Ellis does this song brilliantly!

  • @Sapphire848 do you remember every performer has the off nights and she was trying to sing above the orchestra as they were alot louder than she was. Helen was a crap Glinda anway. And its not all about thing singing!

  • @jakewgard1 Of course I remember that, I know what it's like. It's a good point, but after all I mentioned in my critique, I found it to be a disappointing performance. Trying to sing above an orchestra is no excuse imo. Many singers can project their voices over an orchestra, and if she can't do that, she should have been mic'd.

Is Helen the other girl? I've never heard her before. I've heard the green one in Glee and wasn't overly impressed, to be honest, but that's my taste.

  • the german voices are soo much better... =/

  • Maybe you should all look at the dutch version, because this one sucks witchyass compared to Willemijn Verkaik's version :)

  • @LorriPorri1 Willemijn is echt geweldig!!

  • Dont take this song to literally, I tried defying gravity and broke my legs.

  • @badwolfer101 you took a floor to the knee eh.

  • This is the second version I have seen on Broadway of Defying Gravity and I must say that this one is where Idina puts in all her effort and talent! Very entertaining, moving and incredible!

  • Omg, It's Elphaba, not Elpheba. Stop calling her Elpheba!

  • no one does it better than idina menzel

  • I swear...if any Glee cast member gets chosen for ANY role in this film....I will go apeshit. They cannot sing with feeling in their voice. they just SING. For a song, to capture your heart, you must have emotion when you sing. these glee people fail terribly at it.

  • @FullArius Have you actually ever seen Matthew Morrison or Lea Michelle on stage??? Plus Idina Menzel is in Glee.....and she won the Tony for her portrayal as Elpheba on broadway.

  • @FullArius Darren Criss. Go look him up and enjoy (Especially if you like Harry Potter and or Disney songs). :D And perhaps stop being so angry.

  • is she rachaels mum on glee? shes much better on this lol

  • @GartanGirl Yeah she is

  • Sie trifft den hohen ton nicht wircklich...

  • Amazing. I love this song.

  • Yeah... Nice. And the german version "Frei und Schwerelos" is good, too.

  • I love the changes Idina made to the song.

  • i love this song ♥ in german and in english ♥

  • Oh gosh, i just realised the witch with the green face plays rachel's mom in glee. Anyone noticed that? ^^

  • @xxMsWhAtEvErxx1 FYI, its Elphaba.

But yes, thats her. She was a big broadwya star before being on lolglee.

  • @vietnamxkorea Helen is British, Idina's american

  • @MultiPearl007 Helen is Australian.

  • just in case no one knows. these girls are british

  • she looks like lea...and i think ther vercion is better

  • OMG i say nethier of them our wicked but to leaf her

    RUDE SELF

  • wow damn and that wasn't a lip sync?!! O.O

  • makes me cry everytime

  • chikken skin haha :)

  • Does anyone else get a deliriously goofy grin on their face every time Elphaba rises off the floor in this scene?

  • umm i am speaking in the year 2011 and i have no idea what is a wicked.i liked the glee version but people say the original is better so i searched it and found this so can someone plz reply to me about this song.all i know about it is that it is a brodway show.please people i listen to this song everyday.plz reply.

  • @black2072 Its the story before the wizard of oz! Check it out on wikipedia

  • @38Geordie so wizard of oz copied it

  • @black2072 it is a musical a very AWSOME musical!!!!

  • How can u compare her to sum1 else, she is the original singer on both broadway and the west end! Her version was the 1st and original

  • This song just completely blows my mind. i first heard it on Glee, then I got to sing it for a school function. I cry when I hear it though because I'm reminded of Jack Twist from House of Night (RIP Jack). I really need to see Wicked! It looks beautiful!

  • @weasleychicks93 It's flipping awesome!

  • The notes of this song is soooo high and she manages to hit them with much strength and power which portrays Elphaba. She's amazing.

  • What happened to Kristen. She was so much better

  • I liked the Glee version better :P

  • when they make a Wicked movie, who thinks that Lea Michelle should play Elphaba?

  • @dgurl1010 I do not. Her voice isn't right for Elphie or Glinda. She might make a decent Nessa, though.

  • @HomestarYoshi hmmm :p ya good point

  • @dgurl1010 I think that either Rachel Tucker or Idina Menzel would be WAY more qualified to play the role, as they've both done it a few hundred times a year for a few years.

  • Gosh Bring back Kristin I say!!EUGH to Galinda!!!!

  • 6:31 Sort of hoarse voice=singing with everything you've got

  • Amazing song and play

  • Connie Talbot sings it better!!

  • Where was this performance? Who are the actors? I don't care for Glinda.

  • @HersheyD55 It was the Royal Variety Show in the UK I saw this production when it first opened!! Last time I managed to go to the Westend before I had to give up work.

  • I hate that galinda she's horrible compared to other menzel duets

  • LIke the added brass in the arraignment. Sounds cool

  • Idina is sooo Great!!

  • she is amazing(elphaba) but her mouth is kinda funny when she sings:$

  • i couldn't get past 1:21 because of Glinda

  • the book is amazing!

  • Y'know, idk how I feel about this Galinda. She's definitely no Kristen Chenoweth.

  • Love love LOVE this song -3

  • Elpheba the "Wicked" Witch of the West represents the strong woman who is considered a bitch because she does what she wants to do and not what everyone else wants her to do. She pretty much represents all the badass women out there.

  • perfect theets

  • Wow....Glinda just got man-handled by that guard.

  • Why is Idina so amazing??????

  • 94 people havent been defying gravity

  • I think the "problem" is the orchestra, or at the very least the singers hearing that orchestra. Both of the voices are divine, and the instruments are pretty great too. Let's also not discount the possible dischord created by recording.

  • I'm so sorry for Idina screwing the finale... The rest was really awesome, but at the end she seems disappointed of her last note....

  • Whats this DVD called?

  • Goodness me, why are so many people hating on Helen? She's fabulous in this role, and she and Idina are dazzling compliments to each other!

  • this is my favorite song in the world

  • Cheno forever!

  • I didn't like this for a couple of reasons. First of all, I agree with another person's comment that the chemistry isn't as good between Idina and this gal. Secondly, Idina's voice was failing on her (for whatever reason).

  • i like is better with kristen

  • chills

  • I weren't aware that witches had such pefect teeth.

  • @myszone I was not aware witches exist :)

  • Were a movie of this made, I would choose either Rachel or Idina.

  • @boffinme80 Just saying......................... I know this is really late to say this. But uh........ in the beginning, the one who acts as the wizard said Idina Menzel, Heather Dallimore and the cast of Wicked. It's right here 0:35 Please don't act like I'm an idiot. I try not to be.

  • When she started the big part I got chills through my whole body! =O

  • 93 were non-green people who fell....

  • Is this out of sync or lip synced?

  • @RiverSiege out of sync :)

  • @RiverSiege pshhhhhh idina NEVER lip syncs;DDDDD its gotta be out of sync(:

  • I`m a huge Gleek, but I also saw this musical LIVE about 3 weeks ago. Glee did NOT do this song justice in ANY way... Im not biased on either side but really, think realistically....

  • @zoo861109 saw it on the twentieth and loved it!!

  • I just know the German version, but this version is amazing, too. *o*

  • @CORONA5980 ugh.

  • @CORONA5980 DUDE THATS IDINA MENZEL. FOOL. Lea Michele couldn`t do this, I hate to admit. Shes good but honestly, I can`t picture how good this woudl go...

  • I like this girl but it just seems like Idina and Kristen had better chemistrey they made a great team!!!

  • @jonsmith3030 i agree. When it was Kristen and Idina I sat watching and in my head i was screaming GELPHIE GELPHIE GELPHIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply amazing. Makes me feel better, too, after just reading the book.

  • And thus a legend was born.

  • do you know were can i get a minus one version of this performance?

  • @apushoot Try the one of Idina performing on the late show or Idina's pop solo remix :)

  • lea michele and chris colfer sing this WAYYYYYYYY better

  • @Mr76yt just shows you cant appreciate musicals

  • @via456 i do but like the lea michele and chris colfer sing it better i was just showing my opinon so no need to hate

  • 91 people were encouraged by boffinme80's post.

  • Seeing this musical is on my bucket list.

    Idina Menzel <3

  • @ChelsC781 I just saw it tonight in Saskatoon, Canada. It's worth having on your bucket list, for sure.

  • @zoo861109 me too it's pretty amazing!

  • omg idina plays Rachel berrys mom in glee. thought she looked familiar :-)

  • amazing. absolutely amazing. every lift should be that speed, since the orchestra is equally phenomenal and swift.

  • I'll see Wicked on Sunday (in Germany) and I'm pretty sure it will be aaaawesome!

  • @TatzeRedbird I saw it in London and I didn't even want to go.... It was so awesome
