He even said infront of me to his friends: do you think she's cute? And they were all stating their opinions in Korean and I was just standing there not understanding a word they were saying! Eventually I found what they said though.

yes, they are obssessed with looking good, there are movies about people who are "fat and ugly" and there life sucks, and then they get plastic surgery and they become famous... our international students have debates over whether plastic surgery is good and why it is, or why it isn't.... i heard probably 4 or 5 speeches in my public speaking class about plastic surgery.
