I lost interest D.T.M. when the new series started up. The new series was regulated to death, with all cars with same engine and chassis. without each car's unique features, the manufacturer's name was reduced to just a sticker, vhitout any importance for anyone.

Bring back the DTM form the 80 and 90.

part 1: german power ballad, quite funny, very fitting, part 2: vanesa "making classical music sexy" mae, fair enough, it worked quite well, part 3: u2! for the love of god, why u2? you might like them, each to their own, but surely that's something that you keep secret, and definitely don't subject others to. particularly when they listen with the sound because they appreciate the effort put in to make a video fit in time with the chosen music, well done on that front again by the way. but u2!!

@MrTautologist The song did come out around 2000 around the same time that DTM returned and it was pretty popular then too. I guess that it is sort of fitting in that sense. Not that I'm really much of a fan of this song myself.

Guys {sorry Skipp01] news from Australia is that in the next 4 years see Benz-BMW-Alfa-Peaguot-Opel -Nissan etc entering the Touring Car Race scene It cannot last between just Ford and Holden {GM} shame as it is we have to move on here.

Only Porsche Cup Racing like in the OZ/UK/Euro/US is the closest we will get to parity!

DTM is correct the shell is just a Merc, opel , whataever, they are very sofisticated Forumal cars with many additions aded to aid with speed and handling, it is happening in Australia with the mighty V-8 Supercars, which while not having super spec as DTM, the under the shell is a different beast, noisy yes, fast, yes, but not like a race worked roadcar anymore

2000-2003 fand ich auch noch okay...

aber seitdem die festgelegt haben, dass "längere" Wagen (also von 2-Türigen Coupes auf 4-türige Sportlimousinen) eingesetzt werden sollen, ist alles zusehends langweiliger geworden!

Aber trotzdem ist die DTM um einiges interessanter als F1 oder ähnliches...

Ich hoffe, dass endlich wieder mal mehr Marken als bloß Mercedes und Audi vertreten sind, dann gehts wieder Berg auf!

You're absolutely right mate. Over here in Australia as an 18 year old following motorsport throughout his whole life it is hard to find other people my age to share the passion for motorsport with. Its all the same over here with the cars getting too complicated and costly for smaller teams which makes it less intense racing.

You might consider the 2000 debut season DTM as the cars at least looked quite stock, but when they switched two single race format with pitstops and prototype cars it was all over for me.

DTM was great until 1993, even the V6's were great but all started to become to sophisticated and 94-96 we were loving our worst enemy. Costs were too high with automatic closing cooling ducts, automatic shifting, automatic handicap weight balance shifting....

I just wish we had the 2,5 inline 4's back

BTCC is the same, Cars have become too complicated and in the mid 90's the power output was getting silly. Early 90's were the most exciting for me.

The problem of the newer DTM simply is the same as it was in the era of the ITC.

It's just the same race for new technology, the bigger dick has the one who has the better technology n shit.

They should restrict the cars to 300HP, no aerodynamics, no electric aids, limited suspension and linmited engine electrics...all that would probably reduce the costs and would this championship more inbteresting for small and private teams again...which would let the variety of producers grow again, too

I wish the SpeedChannel would wold broadcast DTM. :( I think the closest thing we to this in the US right now is the Speed World Challenge series. Nothing really can compete with DTM though!

I really wish we had more of that kind of intense, passionate, and thrilling racing in America. The closest we really have to that is the American Le Mans series and Nascar, but Nascar only goes to 2 road courses each season. We need more of THIS here.

I hate the racing we have in America. I kart right now eventually I hope to make it to the LeMans series one day. But get this no one at my school knows who Michael Schumacher is!!! It's horrible. I agree Americans generally suck at driving but please don't include me in that group.

Agreed for some reason Americans who tend to love destroying things prefer racing with no variety like drag racing and oval track. Hmmm? I think america has the wrong idea of road racing.

Well Nascar has its moments, like in 2001 I was at the Atlanta Motor Speedway race just after Earnhardt died, Kevin Harvick took over his car and raced the best race of his life. He beat Jeff Gordon at the very last second, less than an inch apart, and Harvick beat Gordon by thousandths of a second. Best race I've ever seen. Nascar is definitely America's most passionate form of racing, and it has its moments.

But agreed, we need better road racing. More KONI Challenge!!

Yea those close races are AWESOME. Last week I came back from a 50 second deficit and passed for the win in the last corner of the 2 hour enduro. Ended up winning by .3 seconds

Thats not only the problem in america...I personally think that motorsports become quit unknown and unpopular with the younger generation, simply because the car is considered like a simple article of daily use...it hasn't got the image of pioneering, like it was when it started becoming the new transportation device...it's sad, but one cannot compare today to e.g. the 70s, where every young boy (at least) was loving formula 1 and racing in general...

I would like to see the Alfas running again (I'm Italian), maybe with the Audis or the Volvos. DTM was (and is) actually the most advanced expression of the touring car, it could be battling with the Formula, too bad isn't that popular outside Germany...

As far as I know, Touring is just a class, like Formula or Prototype, and even the Gt is part of the Touring Class (derivate from production cars), only with less production limits...

Am I wrong? I don't really know the regulamentation, this is a real question, if someone can explain me the difference it's welcome...

Its just as little a GT car as a Touringcar. Its more like a formulacar with a carbon-body.

So the name "DTM" is more or less just marketing

I think MattA1GP was wrong... GT means grand turizmo (something like best touring), so GT and touring cars are the same. And none of the cars had 4 doors.

A prototype is based on nothing, built from zero. A GT or touring car is based on a production car, their chassis remains more or less the same. That's the difference in a few words... as I know

Well, you're right, as DTMEnt. explained those cars are more similar to a prototype or a formula than to a real car.

By the way, Grand Tourer (GT) it's a translation from the Italian "Gran Turismo", referred to high-class powerful cars which can be used for a long journey (Gran=big, long / Turismo=touring, travelling): sound strange now, but you must think about old classic races like the Paris-Peking raids or the Paris-Dakar. (I'm Italian, but you can find it on English Wiki too)
