Some folks may enjoy the shrill bite of a tight head on an old arch top played close to the bridge (Ralph Stanley sure could crack windows with his) and that's fine with me. However, I prefer the tubby sound this banjo produces with a slightly looser head. Thanks for your comment.
I agree. I was about to say the exact same thing when I saw this. The head on my banjo is really loose and I love how it sounds. I would much rather here that BIG FAT sound than a shrill or tinty sound like a tight head produces.
I've found it beneficial to have the banjo in tune.
