smitrof- onda ste sigurno u BGD-u. ja zivim na drugom kontinentu. Sigurno ste culi o Savi Mrmak. On je radio sa Vorkapicem posto je zavrsio Akademiju za Pozorisnu i Filmsku Umetnost. I preko Save ja sam upoznala Vorkapic familiju. Sin Vorkapica je ozenio glumicu - Sofku ...Vera ? Ona je bila zena reditelja Novakovica. Samo jednom sam ih posetila u Hollywoodu. Eto vam malo istorije.
smitrof -This was so long ago. When did you have the chance to see Sofka a film directed by Vorkapich ? Did you know that the film was based on the book by Bora Stankovic called " Necista krv " ?
@65modena i have seen it in out Kinoteka. i have finished Faculty of dramatic arts, department of film editing, so i know very well work of Slavko. He is kind of personal hero for me :-)
I'm honored to have known Slavko Vorkapich. We met in Sarajevo in 1954 where he was directing a film called SOFKA. He was there with his lovely wife and son.
another piece of film surrealism that blows me away, no cgi way back then so it was just expert cinematography and editing. kind of reminds me of the scene of the 3 brides of dracula in the movie "Vanhelsing". again, thanks for posting this is a perfect example for younger persons interested in film on how it all got started.
This and Welles' tracking shot from Touch of Evil are my favorite opening sequences... I was fortunate to hear Vlada Petric last week give a tribute to Vorkapich at Harvard Film Archive - he showed a number of his filmed sequences along with his video "The symphony of hands..." inspired by Vorkapic's concept on visual and sound film structure amalgamation. What a treat - especially viewing them on a large screen in a theater... VIVA CINEMA!!
Thanks for posting this. This is my favorite opening of any movie, and probably my favorite three minutes of celluloid. Amazing visual imagination 50 years before the 'music video'!
Can anyone recommend similar exponents of montage or 'pure cinema'? I would suggest Eisenstein and Kenneth Anger. Any others?
Every film Slavko worked on was instantly enlivened by his work, which remains fresh and, frankly, brilliant. Thanks for posting this reminder.

This is cut short! The entire intro would still clear the 10 minute allotment on youtube. Please upload the whole clip if you can!
